The only problem with this is that the state of North Carolina may require NC State to be part of the package. Will the Big Ten accept NC State in order to get UNC? I don't know if the SEC would. Let alone the Big Ten with their academic requirements.

That's an NC State fan myth. The NC board of governors has the power to keep them together but it doesn't mean they will. There are more private interests that want to keep them together with Duke. Sorry to the woof pack, but they're not the national brand.

NCSU's academics wouldn't be an issue for the B1G. It may not be a member of the AAU, but it still offers a lot in education and research. Especially in engineering, science, technology, and agriculture. A pillar of the Research Triangle. And, I say this as someone who is NOT a NCSU fan.

When kids went to a school because they loved the tradition, coaches, and the university, players understood the rivalry. Sadly, it is lost.

Yeah, but you guys kick butt in BB. You are leading the league. The thing I keep saying is that all B1G teams are getting serious cash now and in the future. The teams are upgrading facilities and hiring better coaches. The B1G is the best conference. Just because a team doesn't have a great record doesn't mean the team is lousy. I always say, "Those Boilers are sneaky good. You never know what those engineers will come up with."

@@georgesealy4706 Thank you and yes seeing our basketball team do well helps me to feel better about our lack of football success, because we're at least relevant in BB. And you're right that a lot of B1G teams are investing more in football and it's paying off with the B1G clearly being the best football conference last year, as proven by our bowl wins over other conferences, especially the SEC. Now that B1G teams are having football success, we will only see more B1G football success (at least for awhile). I don't know how much Purdue will invest in football so long as we continue to dominate in basketball, but if Painter retires or we start doing bad in BB for whatever reason, you'll see our football spending go up. Purdue has a proud tradition and strong fanbase that will not likely be denied some kind of athletic success.

Where do you get that idea? According to the Tampa Bay Times the ACC paid out an average of 44.89 to its football members the Big 12 was only slightly behind at 44.2 million but this is in part because they haven't totally renegotiated the Big 12 deal since adding those Pac-12 schools

@Veretax okay, for now, but by 2036, the ACC will be making more, because the ACC Network is profitable & has increased in viewership each of the last 5 years, and payout bonuses are tied to that, so the payout per school has been increasing 2 to 3 million per school per year. Last fiscal year Clemson athletics made 196 million which was 15th highest in the country, and were over 22 million in the black, and considerably more than the highest Big12 school.

They signed it for the leverage to be able move any of the schools when and where they wanted them to go. The extension in return gives the ACC a financial foundation to continue. There has been no movement in those lawsuits and the ACC has done its best to drag out the litigation in a war of legal attrition. There has been some indications that the ACC may add incentives for the stronger conference school brands and soften its exit requirements after 2030 but that is rumor still.

The UNC-Duke rivalry will not have to be an out of conference game. Duke will come with the Heels to the B1G. When the ACC hammer finally falls and they break up, the B1G will grab UNC, Duke, Virginia, Cal and Stanford. The SEC will add FSU, Miami and Clemson. This will also facilitate Notre Dame finally joining a conference when they no longer have a willing partner to park their non-revenue sports in that's also ok with letting their football program remain independent. They will join the B1G. Also, look for the SEC to also add some combination of former ACC and current Big 12 schools to equal the B1G at 24 members.
