I am glad that you are highlighting the way that Aristotle provided philosophical cover for some truly corrosive concepts, including these particular ones which allowed slavery within the state to graduate from being a punishment for a crime to being a punishment for being a certain category of person. That thin veil of justification allowed slavery to become fully an instrument of the state. When they were primarily viewed as criminals, slaves would almost always find themselves employed in the restitution of their crimes. But if you are in chains because you are 'naturally' a slave, well... there is no material crime to restitute! The state can do what they wish with you, and you can't sue for freedom, because how can you possibly restitute the crime of your existence? It would be appropriate if Aristotle were to live a thousand lives being whipped for the color of his hair, or something, for this terrible crime. But, he would have to serve that after his sentence for his even more abominable 'Denial of Means', which literally damned all of mankind to the capricious dictate of a gGod...
As an aside, it is a shame that the word 'lord' has become associated with divinity in a general sense, because it is so misleading in so many cases. In the case of Sobek, master of the joys of the body and the great reptiles: is he not less about bread, than he is about cake🍑?

Thanks for sharing- yes, Aristotle has never been my cup of tea.
We shouldn't even start on his ideas about women and where the essence of a baby comes from.

This was amazing. I learned so much. But I have one big question: did early, slave-owning Christians believe that you should turn the other cheek unless it was your slave that caused the offense? Did the sermon on the mount, for instance, only apply to free people?

I don’t want your content recommend to me. One minute in and this is garbage. I’m spoiled to actually well produced and competently written content on ancient history. You only have a grade schooler’s grasp on the ancient world.

Thanks for the feedback- always great to have another admirer.
My guests would probably disagree with you on these points, but you do you 🙏
If the "content" you're referring to is what I suspect it is, we have not only differing tastes but live in completely different versions of reality.
      I don't make "content".
