This is Genius! I have used a set similar to this, but with an actual frozen fish on the end, but always have to replace the fish once it thaws and gets mushy. Thanks for the idea!
TheJoshuaGuy No problem , they work very well below a beaver dam for the winter sets. Then you don't have to deal with much ice. I have also caught mink in them under the ice.
thanks for the quick reply, really looking forward to see it work, please keep it up, great info, your vids and Andrew Stanely are my favorites, once again thanks
Reid Johnson It works great under the ice also. Above or below a beaver dam or in a small stream or close to an old beaver house. Any place that otters generally hang out at.
I can see where it would. I just usually set in channels or before the crossover on a dam. Like that idea though. I don't trap that much. Just an old beaver dam behind my house. When I get a chance I have to get back on tomorrow and watch , or try to watch some more of your videos. Thanks again for sharing. Going bowhunting in the morning so have to get to bed. Thanks
thanks for the help!! I will get them fixed up in the morning and set them around the docks and let you know how I do. Should I uses the lure along with them? thanks again..
Just gave this a try 2 days ago, wired on an old rapala crankbait to a 330. I figure if it works well catching fish it might as well step up and catch some fur! I'll let ya know...thanks.
Hi no all rocks about 40 yds from the bank in 40 ft water. I think they are living under the dock store. You can hear them under there. The only traps I can set are body traps no place to put a foot trap or snare. Do you think the lures would work on 220's and 280's too? Thanks.
Our otter season just started here in NJ but everything is frozen solid. Any ideas that i can do? haven't caught one yet but love the lure on the trigger.
Can you set the entrances of dead beaver houses? That was always a good one. Use the ladder set and block off the entrance. Or use the ladder in small creeks.
Hi I have otter's on big boat dock. They have been trapped. The water is way to deep do you think you could tie the stick on the boat dock where there running around and this mite work? I have some red and white ones lures do you think I need a different color on each trap?
I don't have a clue how to catch them off a boat dock do you? I can't find out where they are going to the bank. They are catching big bass around the dock and wild ducks and eating them. There leaving the fish heads on the dock. They are 20 otter's around it. I got a call today about another boat dock. He is wanting me to trap his otter and beaver's. I don't do it for a living I just do it to help out. Do you have any idea's how to catch them? I can't find my otter lure so I got Cavens otter lure supreme and fox hollow torpedo. I don't uses lure on otter's much. But I think it will pull the otter's to the set like you made. What brand lure have you had the best luck on? I have caught most of my otter's by snare. Thank you.
I would just use the fishing lure in the conibear trigger if I were you. But set lots of the traps at the same time. Is there any old beaver houses close by? If there is set the entrances of it for the otters.
+Christopher Maxson Those things would work great. The only thing might be that the otters may tear them when they hit the trigger. I caught one 2 years ago by tearing a coke can apart and cutting out the shape of a fish and attaching it to the trigger, so those rubber ones should work real good.
so i was out in my line today and I came upon a conundrum: there are crossovers everywhere...mostly used by beaver I think. but I bet otter use some as well. you can't set a 330 on land in MN. but u can set a 220. would it hurt to set a 220 on a crossover that is mostly used by beaver to target otter? any advice on this would be helpful. thanks in advance.
+Joseph Watkins 220's are not great beaver traps although I have caught many of them in there when set for otters.220's are better otter traps than the 330's. Can you set the traps so that they are partially in the water with the trigger just submerged? If not can you use the 280's on land? If no to either of those then set the 220's on the land and I think a lot of the really big beavers will go around. But I would check the traps daily to make the chance of fur damage lessen.
Hi I used this on boat docks didn't work. I took fish I had up in freezer for catfish fishing. I run the fish up on trigger and ended up catching 4 otter's.
Really. How long did you leave the lure set in? I have caught lots of otters in this set. But then again I don't have any docks around. A couple other viewers tried this set and caught their first otters in them. But I have had them set before where they were there all season and did not catch any as well.
2 weeks. The otter's was catching fish getting on the boat lifts eating fish. I move down the dock away from there used lure put a fish on trigger caught one. I made some sqaure bucket/ cage buckets. Made a like wire trap put a 220 in each in put fish in middle. That works I think if I was out on the river where the otter's had a harder time with fish it would work. I put a shad on the trigger of a 330 it worked.
+john lindsay I have not tried them because the floaters always stay upright for me. I made a fish looking thing out of a coke can 2 years ago and attached it to the trigger and caught an otter with that so I can't see why they metal lures would not work.
Ya me too... but when this set was made I had already caught 6 otters on my small line. I have not seen an otter track since then. In a couple weeks I am going to move out to the farmland and I will set a couple of them and see what happens.
333widowmaker I take my bear oil and every otter I catch I cut the scent glands out of them, cut the glands open and squeeze the liquid out into the bear oil.
Very clever idea. Thank you
That's a great looking set, and an awesome idea with the musky lure on the trigger...that's gotta look like candy to a hungry otter.!!

Thanks for showing your methods. If I go before freeze up, might give this a try. Good luck and look forward to seeing a catch with this method.

Awesome video. I’ll definitely be spending some time checking out your channel. I’m just getting into trapping.
thanks for the help!! I will get them fixed up in the morning and set them around the docks and let you know how I do. Should I uses the lure along with them? thanks again..
No need to add scent if that is their hunting area.
Ok thanks I will get my 330's and some 220's fixed up today.
Thanks for the tip. That’s a excellent idea. Thanks. Stay safe.

Meat Good luck...
absolutely flipping awsome!!! I cant wait to try that.
Greetings from Russia. great video
Hello there. How is life in Russia.
Will have to give it a try!
Awesome series. 👍🤘👊
great set going to give it a try. thanks
Great idea and thanks for sharing.

Ya just smaller lures of course. When I was young I always used the 220s for this set
Our otter season just started here in NJ but everything is frozen solid. Any ideas that i can do? haven't caught one yet but love the lure on the trigger.

What about birds and fish? And turtles?
Hi I have otter's on big boat dock. They have been trapped. The water is way to deep do you think you could tie the stick on the boat dock where there running around and this mite work? I have some red and white ones lures do you think I need a different color on each trap?
I think that will work fine. And ya try different colors and see what works.
I don't have a clue how to catch them off a boat dock do you? I can't find out where they are going to the bank. They are catching big bass around the dock and wild ducks and eating them. Use the lure set it should work. Where are you located?
I would worry around here a blue heron would strike at the bait and get caught.
Love it!!
How do you attach the lure?
what lure is that? have you tried it with plain fish?
How about using the rubbery type of fish look a like lures?
+Christopher Maxson Those things would work great. The only thing might be that the otters may tear them when they hit the trigger. I caught one 2 years ago by tearing a coke can apart and cutting out the shape of a fish and attaching it to the trigger, so those rubber ones should work real good.
+Trapping World that's awesome thanks for the reply, keep stacking up the furs.

+Joseph Watkins Oh and are these crossovers on the dams or from one watershed to another?
One watershed to another
+Joseph Watkins Then I would put as many 220's out as you can. Are you allowed to set the 280's

интересный метод! какой результат?
???????????????
wow great idea
would this set work in a pond without moving water?
If you have an area that the otters are moving in it will work. Really works near the entrance of an old beaver house that the otters are using.
ok where im at we dont have beaver anymore. we use to but were trapped to extinction in my county.
Otters love to go in and out of old beaver houses.
can you use spoons lures for this set
+john lindsay I have not tried them because the floaters always stay upright for me. I made a fish looking thing out of a coke can 2 years ago and attached it to the trigger and caught an otter with that so I can't see why they metal lures would not work.
ok mink must go for it as well.ok happy holidays to you and your loved one.take care of your self
Nice set.
Going to try it.
Meetch Meetch
like to see some actual catches
Ya me too... but when this set was made I had already caught 6 otters on my small line. I have not seen an otter track since then. In a couple weeks I am going to move out to the farmland and I will set a couple of them and see what happens.
what do you use for otter scent?
333widowmaker I take my bear oil and every otter I catch I cut the scent glands out of them, cut the glands open and squeeze the liquid out into the bear oil.
trap can't be greater than 7.5"
+Joseph Watkins Hit them with the 220's then.
