      That's a good thing to point out. This while time we were expecting/hoping for some grand revelation. When this whole time it was just a pre thought out game devs used for us to attribute meaning to something which had none. Kind of a whimper of a revelation rather than a bang of one. If you didn't get the point of this video, the glyphs mean nothing. There is no grand revelation. They have no meaning. Their purpose was purely just to make us ask why they were their and go down this road to attribute our own meaning to them. The world won't end with a bang. It'll end with a whimper. Apply that here. There is no "BANG" of a revelation. It's whimper of a revelation. That in actuality they mean nothing, and it was just a pre thought out game by the devs to make us do exactly what we did. It's both genius and disappointing at the same time.

    Here's my hypothesis that's only half a joke: Based on everything we've seen and heard, especially from Marty recently, I think the Glyphs might just be a red herring easter egg. An inside joke from Bungie who at the time damn well knew how massive Halo was (and still is), and that people would be going on for years to try to pull meaning from something that simply doesn't exist. Its entertainment for the developers to sit back and watch the fans go crazy. I know if I was a game dev, I'd have no problem doing something like that because it would hilarious!

    The connection to "constellations" seems like it would be pretty relevant to me. Combine that with Occam's Razor, looking for the obvious, surface level thing, could the glyphs represent some kind of constellation? A decent amount of the Y symbols line up with each other. Occam's Razor applies because whatever hidden meaning would be displayed once the constellation is complete, the glyphs would spell it out. How they all connect and their orientation would be the challenge. Maybe overlaying screenshots of all the glyphs would lead to something if it hasn't already been done. Marty's "Still having fun whY 🙁?" comment might be linking the sad Superintendent Y glyph to being a central/starting point.

    • @blackdog6969
      @blackdog6969 2 роки тому +6

      I agree, the "whY" with the sad face was the first thing I noticed. As a central point, it could very well have them line up to something bigger. The glyphs that had smaller glyphs near or in one of their 3 sections could be a clue on how they align

    • @Bash_Minimal
      @Bash_Minimal 2 роки тому +30

      I’m pretty sure the “constellations” presentation was about the idea of putting arbitrary details into games to spark the players’ imaginations. Details that don’t have to have hidden meanings or deep lore behind them, because players will still find them interesting regardless. Constellations in the sky aren’t pictures hiding in the stars, they’re just the pictures we drew over them for fun.
      So the hints to Occam’s razor and the guy talking about “putting constellations” in video games are really just about how the glyphs mean nothing, as that is the simplest explanation. Marty emphasizing the Y in “whY” is just him hinting that the entire point of the glyphs is to get players to ask that question, and get so interested in finding an answer(that doesn’t exist) that they make videos about it like Rocket Sloth lol.
      Besides, compiling and rearranging all of the glyph designs like they’re pieces of a puzzle would be extremely complicated, and go completely against Occam’s Razer (the simplest explanation/explanation requiring the fewest assumptions is the best one). Similarly, the photos Marty shared of him with bungie staff and the default texture are just more chaotic unrelated “breadcrumbs” he’s dropping as part of his own efforts to simultaneously spur more fan generated conspiracy constellations, and answer their question about the glyphs.

    • @atvman12
      @atvman12 2 роки тому +13

      @@Bash_Minimal exactly. The whole point is the glyphs mean nothing, except for what WE attribute to them meaning. That's the whole point of the constellation presentation. The whole idea is for us to go on this journey of what they mean and linking all these things together and form all these possible connections and meanings. That's their purpose. They mean nothing. I have to admit I'm kind of disappointed with this turn out, but also from a different perspective it's genius.

These curiosities will never be as grand or mystical as the true meaning, no matter what bungie may have hidden here or if the true meaning is lost to time. I feel like it's an underestimated rhetorical device to add unanswered and unanswerable questions to fictional settings. It keeps people thinking about the "what-ifs" and the "why's" and that keeps the material - whether it is a book, or a movie, or a video game, or music, or any other form of media - fresh in people's minds. It draws people to replay a game they completed, or watch a movie they've seen already, or to reread a book they have already finished. It provides a medium for discussion about that content and builds anticipation.
    And it also makes a lot of sense in the context of a video game that is built by dozens or even hundreds of different people. Any of them might've put in their own pieces of themselves and their interests into the game as an easter-egg. Something small, maybe otherwise insignificant or incredibly difficult to find or easy to overlook. Without these kinds of more obvious cryptics, maybe nobody would ever go out of their way to search for the true hidden content.
    And while the answers for things like these glyphs might simply not exist in the piece they are featured in, it doesn't mean they can't have value later. These glyphs, for which there might be no explicit purpose in ODST, could have - or could still - serve as the basis for future content. Such as if the species in HALO Infinite had this language, and they left the Huragok behind - Mass Effect style with the Reapers leaving behind the Keepers. Of course, it doesn't have to, but leaving doors open for the future is a good way to keep content interesting.

    I had a point about this on Reddit once, it's about Halo Reach, but it's relevant.
    Halo Reach was Bungie's goodbye.
    Noble Team is in a way representative of the 6* stages of grief, Noble 6's being the most important but here is the list:
    Jorge : Denial (there's more, but "Don't deny me this." while simultaneously being in denial of the invasion of Reach the whole time)
    Kat: Anger (for not having more control, having to follow Holland's orders
    Carter: Bargaining (Constantly fighting for the advantage, anything to complete the mission, in the end he trades his life for Emile and 6)
    Jun: Depression (left to cope with the loss of his team)
    Emile: Acceptance ("I'm ready! How about you?" Among other things.)
    Noble 6 : Finding meaning. This is the point of Halo. What is this Ring (CE)? How do we choose what side we are on (2)? What does it mean to be a hero (3)? How do we create hope(BELIEVE) when everything is hopeless (ODST)? How meaningful are our actions (Reach)? This is my take away from the games anyway. Blah blah blah

    Love your vids man, really takes me back to when I would play the original three halos all the time no matter how many times I went through the story, something today’s games of any franchise don’t have in replay value. Anyway I was wondering if you’d wanna tackle more tier videos like ranking every halo weapon ever(assault rifle, sniper rifle, plasma rifle, etc model differences don’t matter), every vehicle ever(warthog, scorpion, ghost, etc), and every enemy combatant ever(grunts, flood elite combat form, sentinel, etc) throughout the whole franchise so far following Halo Infinite!

    I personally want to know about the Halo 3 Legendary Ending
    What the original ideas and intents and potential concept arts were for what would become Requiem and whether or not some of these mysteries are connected
    (And since Halo 3 and Ghosts of Onyx came out at the same time, if it was intended as Onyx)

    If only RocketSloth understood the story of Marathon, so much more of this would be easier for them to understand. The hint to ask Hamish Sinclair is CRUCIAL to the investigation. The Cortana Letters are a direct sequel to Marathon: Infinity, which is where most of the references began.
    The Halo story does not begin with Halo, and the Marathon story does not begin with Marathon, but it'll answer so many of your questions and you'll pick up some details you completely missed.

    I think they made Halo just based off of what was cool and what they liked and what they wanted and the reason why they're so cryptic and embracing all this crazy is because we are assigning deeper lure to the game than they ever thought out they're letting us build the story for them more or less

    At 16:00 when he explains how bungie hasn't been too explicit with the lore when developing games, another word for this is Cow tools by Gary Larson's Far Side comic that depicts a cow standing in front of a bunch of misshapen hand tools. A lot of writers have been using this as an example to not go into detail with a lot of the background, but instead give items that'll attract the persons attention and they will give that thing a purpose, a reason and how it's used

    Ik that Rocket won't see this, but I remember a theory that I'm pretty sure you did for a lore perspective is that it was Virgil saying help, but what if it's all of the Huragok saying help? Hoping that a species can read it and help free them from being slaves of the Covenant. Ofcourse I could be going to deep, but it would make sense because ODST takes place after the Covenant invasion, and the Huragok probably knowing that humans will come back or still are there, are putting those to ask for help. But that's just a theory A GAME THEORY

    Marty O'Donnell Has been subtlety screaming the answer. From this video and the others i have watched the obvious has been missed Because of all of the attention to detail.
    Martys Friar Comment points us to stop falling down rabbit holes and look at the information on the surface.
    The poem connection was meant to lead us back to the Cortana letters. When that message wasnt received He sent you a mesage he thought you would understand.
    First line was telling you it began with the letters. The cortana letters which was where he was trying to point you all along.
    The first letters of the tweet directed you to stop getting lost in details and focus on what is right in front of you.
    It ends at dawn is a reference to forward unto dawn, the ship in halo 3. He later goes forward and points you to the beginning of halo with the Cortana letters and the solving of the glyphs hidden in halo 3
    Referring back to one of his first messages still having fun, whY😶,
    perhaps he is trying to tell you that only the glyphs thay look like the letter Y are related to the easter egg. Be careful of the Y theory as it may lead down another rabbit hole.
    Rewatch ypur videos objectivly and cut out the deep dive.
    I hope this helps,
    Sincerely
    xdDx Gen Sapper

  • @nzpowa._.6662

    Legit. It was an accident to make such a unique and references based series, that we want call backs for. Something only a mature series can make, playing through these references.
    I never consider ODST as a Dante's inferno experience, but gotdamn, it somehow turned into one, pulling me into this story of a man trying to learn the state the world will become when death is at your front door!
    Heck, I'm sure in infinite though, we will get another biblical story for the chief or of a special ally to chief. Joe staten is leading the team at 343, and ok probably in the talks with Marty about this, hence why the endless has so little info about them, yet, logical sense is being made from the lore of it.
    And we as fans can either craft a unique story that can be somehow pulled from it with sense that's so strong we were not prepared for.
    I mean, we might get a story about the endless joining the flood, becoming crazed beings for power, or might even be an Ally we get to see the world through.
    Heck, next free update for the campaign might give us that a better foundation for that story that sets us off to questioning how big the universe is in this 5 year + 6 months + 3 days + ~30mins- 30hour gap, did it get smaller or did will it suddenly expand to bounds we are not expecting to explore.

    I thought this video might have held something interesting regarding nominalism in light of William of Ockham being in the thumbnail, but sadly, it was just the sad trope of 'Ockham's Razor', something not even Ockham himself would have recognised or approved in its current meaning and usage (And the name given to the concept is quite strange, too, given that 'Ockham' wasn't William's name, but the place where he hailed from).
    Ultimately, however, you were right about the glyphs, but not because of any such 'razor'.
