As a former Diesel mechanic, truck driver, welder, forklift operator, bus driver AND current train engineer..... I wish I could get into blacksmithing too!
I had opportunity to plow with 3 different teams at Michigan state university several years ago. Early in the day, so they were fresh and ready. Owners gave me a run of names an calls, stop them if mud builds up on feet an scrape it off. [foot may settle crooked an twist ankle] Face rear with shoulder leaning on leg, light grab over the hoof and I jacked up a horse easier than lifting a gallon of milk. They could be Service Dogs for Giants. *** 6 year olds were driving teams in the afternoon with a guide walking 10-20 feet behind. Magic day,
I love the idea of laying the nail onto the hoof wall and starting the clinching process with the foot forward. Up until now, I've always bent the nail down and dealt with it that way. I have stocks, but prefer to work on the ground when the horse behaves. Your video helped me to do a better job. Thank you
I had an 18.3 2,000 pound Percheron for a hobby horse, that I rode. I found he would break the drawn clips off the front feet in two weeks, he was so strong and powerful. I went to welded on clips and they would last thru two or three resettings. There was only one farrier in Michigan that had them, because he welded them up for the draft owners.
detroitbob58 i am brazilian and my english is bad sorry, but i understand you have a percheron horse, that type is rare in Brasil and i love They, i was um front of one one in the EXPOZEBU MG and i love how massive They are. my instagram of animals art @artedtoledo
The nails bent up at the start was new to me too. I've only ever seen then through the hoof and bent down towards the shoe. (Saw first hand why the smart move is to do one at a time as well. Hoof down farriers leg with the nail not clipped, 40 stitches need to close the gash in the farriers calf).
@Pat Fitzgerald These horses are only for hobby and only COST money. If you want to get rich, find another hobby. What's your problem anyway? Jealous? . You obviously don't know what you're talking about.
ok people.. before you ask a question like "does this hurt the horse?" try reading the comment section first ^^; Sending a nail through a horses outer hoof is like laying your finger down on a chunk of wood upside down, then pushing a needle through the part of your finger nail that hangs off your finger. cutting their hooves is exactly the same as cutting our finger nails, so they feel no pain if you are doing it right!
frogbear02 without the shoes on this size of a horse it would hurt much more than getting the shoes put on I don’t own a draft horse and I don’t put shoes on my horses because I don’t take them out on trails or rocks or concrete so no need for shoes these draft horses more than likely pull carts which is very bad for the horse without shoes they may feel some pain but without the shoes the pain would be much worse
As someone not a horse owner , I really appreciated this video . Very informative and very skilfully undertaken . Thank you ( I do prefer heavy horse ) from their historical and modern part in our society
when i was a kid i used to look in horror at that red hot shoe burning his hoof and then the nails , ......until my parents told me it did not hurt the horse . still for a kid that was fascinating !
The rig to hold the horse is brilliant, and the video coverage is very thorough, I can see everything (I don't know if you use this video in class, but it would be very helpful) I got to witness a farrier live this past winter in Delta, British Columbia. The fella originally came from Scotland, where he was trained and was pretty damn good himself (he held the feet between his thighs) and the animals where just as content as this beauty seems to be.
Thoses horses used too work hard in Belgium now is ok but in 1955 oh la alway horse work all daythank God for the machine i used too take care of two Very very strong gentle ...depend Bring them too ferrier about few mont h Good job must be Belgium there
@Ronnie Burgess I wrote that because I find docking horse's tail so severely extremely cruel and completely unnecessary (otherwise it wouldn't have be banned) and expressed that in such a comment. If you find that trolling, you're the last person here to tell people what to do. And your life doesn't seem too passionate either if you spend it reading comments with the replies and take your precious time to write an absolutely clichéd reply
Yeah lol the completely passive calm expression on this biggun shows you how it doesnt hurt them. She's more upset about being tripod horse during it. I was shocked to see the size of those hoofy feet. Thats about the size of a salad plate! I adore the extra floof on their feets so cute! Is that bearded fella her papa? Cuz his beard cutely matches her colors. 💛
This guy did his job but nowhere near to the perfection,, only master can do it perfectly, I remembered my uncle may God bless his soul,, since my childhood I see him doing horse shoes, he make horse shoes from scrap metal, he was master of his profession,, he even build horse carriages, repair those carriages,, I have big respect for him, nowdays not much people like him left in india, its a trade you learn from your master and you have to earn it, you can't get it from schools.
I am a uk farrier good job stocks are a good idea and saves the farriers back the horses are calm and well trained and it does not hurt them at all if so they would panic excellent well done boys
Guys, if the horse was getting hurt or had a serious problem, he would put up one hell of a harder fight than this. He’s just a little annoyed, not angry or in pain.
Horse is such a beautiful animal. I enjoyed watching this beautiful video. first, I worried the horse might cry in pain. It was done without pain at all.
Ok people, some of you need to stop commenting on stuff you don't know crap about. This is not abuse! If it was, don't you think there would by a lot less videos of people doing it? Use common sense! Trust me, you would know when you were hurting and horse that size.
The fascinating thing here is the patience of the Horse. The Farrier in every way displays his Mastership!

That crew did a first rate job and the test is in how the horse handled it...Is a very nice horse...
These guys are MASTER FARRIERS ..... GOOD JOB !
Far from it. His skills are barbaric.
@Less Confused
Tf is wrong with you ?
Draft horses are so beatyful, just love to see them

I have shod a few draft horses in my day and must say that it is a lot of hard work. Nice to see a real professional at work here, nice job..
Amazing the relationship between the Ferrier & beast. Truly awesome.
Big beautiful gentle creatures love draft horses!!
what an amazing animal I am happy to see this magnificent beast being so well cared for
You did notice it's missing its tail? That's illegal...
It's not illegal. It's just cruel.
Where they live (and where I live) it's ILLEGAL. For many years already.
They have to be taken care of in order for them to make that PRECIOUS DOLLAR for their money-whoring owners.
@Pat Fitzgerald These horses are only for hobby and only COST money. If you want to get rich, find another hobby. What's your problem anyway? Jealous? . You obviously don't know what you're talking about.

So yes you are right they don’t feel much pain if any
No horses can't feel it
Thanks for the info. Too many people jump on the "poor animal" bandwagon without learning anything about these procedures.
Yes shoeing horses doesn't hurt them if done properly but shoes can cause problems with the horse feet .
I’ve never seen hoof trimming with a knife. Interesting. I had hot shoeing done on my Percheron...she didn’t like the smell, but it never hurt her.
Heavy work and beautifully done - guess the horses leave an inch taller than when they arrived!!!!!
After the got shoe smokes like crazy on the hoof, horse is like "sweet, I like smoke"
As someone not a horse owner , I really appreciated this video . Very informative and very skilfully undertaken . Thank you ( I do prefer heavy horse ) from their historical and modern part in our society
This is such a good farrier, his work is excellent.
Getting the nails done and custom made shoes. That is one lucky horse.
It's neat to see people who know what they're doing in their profession. Nice video!

draft horses are unbelievably calm ....i pray that a draft horse never go out of controo.....damn they are huge

Some salons will. They also have feet clinics.

I bet he wouldn't mind a new tail either...

Like getting a nice pedicure.
i imagine it feels nice like having a pedicure and toe-jam removed from our feet feels :)
@@Eva-cn2bu Exactly, I feel the same way about docking dogs tails and declawing cats.
I can't wait to own a horse! This would teach me how to do shoes to this breed! Though I would be scared doing it first time but this would help alot.

Honestly I find it completely astounding that a beast this powerful is willing to extend it limb in cooperation with this procedure.
so cute!!
Look at those beautiful new shoes...beautiful animal.
Incredible craftsmanship good Sir...
beautiful horses
Big fluffy boy gets new shoes. Cool
It's really relaxing to watch to me
Hoof is like human nail then. It doesn't hurt the horse when red hot metal is used.
A master at work
Nice pair of shoes buddy, 🐴
The horse thought he was getting a new pair of jordans. 😂

Goed vakmanschap. Heb het vele malen gezien bij onze dorpssmid. Mooi herinneringen .😄
I know it's all the red dead redemption II horse videos that have brought me here.
They look awesome when it's done
Soo satisfying seeing the dirt being removed.
That's a biiiiiig boi. Also, why dock the tail? Surely you can just cut it short if you need it out the way?
It's a work horse its tail gets docked so that it doesn't get stuck in the harness and harm the horse
Beeeautiful!
He just got him a fresh ass pair of horse Jordans.
Beautiful animals
That was really interesting, I’ve always kind of wondered how that was done.
Cool video
Wow i didnt know it takes that much work to deal with a horse beautiful draft btw
