Exactly the reason I am loving these books, they are so different. Story wise and plot wise. Also, it was delightful that the whole book is spent on the Wedding Day! 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Every time I started a new chapter called Wedding Day I was like “still?” After a while I was looking forward the next “Wedding Day” chapters. Brilliant!
love this video, thanks again for getting me into the Broken Empire books, my favourite moment was the bit where Jorg jokingly tells Rike that pig shit will help his sunburn, then gets pissed because it actually seems to help. I better get around to reading Emperor. cheers mate.
I also interpreted part of Jorg's growth as a result of his obstinance. Almost like some of his opponents - Sageous, Katherine (in a way), Chella - believed that he was nothing but a cold-hearted bastard incapable of being a fair-minded King or showing love to his companions. And since he felt he was being told he *couldn't* mature or show empathy, that he was nothing but a monster, he had no choice but to prove them wrong. I love the idea of maturing as a person out of spite for those who say you can't.
Great review! I am reading Lawrence out of order (I started about three months ago - ripping through these books)... started with Ancestor, then Book of Ice and I just finished King of Thorns - Emperor of Thorns in sitting next to me ready to be devoured once I get some free time. ML's prose is amazing, I highly recommend his work to any fantasy/ SciFi fan who appreciates great writing. Our protagonist starts off as a son of a bitch.. we get some reasons why he was so ruthless, but he also remains hardcore to his bones to (hopefully) achieve a greater good (and maybe some selfish reasons too). Super compelling, amazing prose. Great review Slowly Red
I loved the way it was written HOWEVER i can definitely see how new readers to fantast could get mixed up and confused like the Katherine memory box sequences either way I loved this book love to see Jorg's progression and him changing through the years and actually caring like with Coddin!
Just finished it. That was wild. Lawrence is the King of Flashbacks. I liked how Scott Lynch does flashbacks except that in the 3rd acts, the flashbacks while good detract from the present storyline, not with Lawrence though. He juggles it so well. I compare Broken Empire and Gentleman Bastard because of the heavy reliance on flashbacks. I also loved the memory box, it's a literal mystery box but it's just done so will I can't complain about it. Should I read Road Brothers right after Emperor of Thorns or should I wait til I'm missing that world ?
THANKS MAN! For some weird reason, I can only connect with these books after I watch your reviews. I will definitely re-read them again before Emperor of Thorns because obviously I have missed important details when reading. Mark Lawrence's writing style is not always my cup of tea but I know Jorg is a complex character. Thanks for your insight man! You do a wonderful job.
Thank you 🙏 There's definitely more than meets the eye with Jorg. He has horrible behavior but there is reasons for it. Doesn't justify his actions but it gives us that understanding to maybe why he does.
Thanks for your spoilers review. I read in Spanish but in this trilogy only the first book is in Spanish so I carry on reading in English with the KOT. You really help me to see that I got the big picture and sometimes you show some light in the dark. Now for the EOT. In some point during this book I thought: "The road brothers are what the Black Company should looks like" 🙃 I am loving the Broken Empire, it might be my second favourite (currently is The First Law). But my number 1 so far is...THE PRINCE OF NOTHING 🖤 Thank slowly red for your channel.
Yes, finally a video i can watch safely! Loved this series and Red Queen's War as well. Both very fun to read. I hope we will once get a third trilogy in this world, (maybe with a female main character). Wouldn't it be cool to have a trilogy of trilogies?
I don't always like when a story jumps between different timelines, but damn, Mark Lawrence is so good at it. lol. I agree, I thought the memory box was a cool strategy. Bringing a gun to a sword fight is such a Jorg move. lol
Just finished it wow, don’t think the dog would make the tv adaptation, The more I learn about Jorg more I feel he’s not totally evil anyone would be screwed up with what was done to him, looking forward to next book
I can’t wait to re read this series, I can’t imagine how much better this story is on a second read. A heck yeah the gun threw me for a loop great scene! Have you read his Red Sister trilogy? I wanted to know if it’s as good as this series
Lol when Jorg pulled out a Colt and started shooting the guys down I couldn't stop giggling
Your reviews are insightful and mature. Much better than some more popular booktubers out there.
Ps: I reviewed your review!
Lol, thank you 🙏

Still one of my all time favorites!!
Onward to Emperor 😉

Either way is fine. Though if you're still feeling the world, definitely dive in. I think the footnotes and stuff will hit a little harder

He ends the books brilliantly

The black company is great as well. Im up to the Bleak seasons book
Saving this one for later after I read the book. I like that you're doing a spoiler review
Hope you enjoy it!!
Thank you, make it a great weekend!

It would be awesome to have another trilogy. I'd be throwing my money at it immediately 😀

Yeah his handling of the timeliness is perfect 👌
Man I was confused on what I read until I saw this and realized I did read that correct. Guess I needed confirmation on what was in this book 😂
Just finished it wow, don’t think the dog would make the tv adaptation, The more I learn about Jorg more I feel he’s not totally evil anyone would be screwed up with what was done to him, looking forward to next book
I feel like Jorg just up and shooting Egan is a very Indiana Jones style move.
Great video !
Thank you 🙏

I've tried but I didn't finish the first book, im going to be giving it another go. Definitely different than broken empire
When do you think you'll get to the aspect emperor series?
Started the judging eye 😉
@@slowlyred2082 yessssss!
A good but not great series
