Thank you for this. I went to my local Samsung store and they quoted $120 to do this for me! They were more interested in selling me a new one. Your instructions were great and it gave me the confidence to give it a try. It works and hopefully I'll get another couple of years out of this watch.

I used this as a guide for changing the battery on my own troublesome S3. Only thing missing was a reminder on how to remove the bands. I ended up having to order a Y-driver from Joes, as suggested by this video, rather than the one with my battery kit. I used a very small PC repair screwdriver (flathead) on the inner screws, though they appear to be very narrow phillips type screws. A bright light is recommended when working on all this.

Thanks Joe. I could not have changed the battery without your video. It was extremely helpful. I had some challenges getting the screws off even though I had the right tools. It appears that Samsung had tightened the screw too tightly. With persistence they come off. Many thanks. Hopefully the battery will last another three years. I give you 5 stars.

Just done a gear sport its construction is similar to the s3 froniter but it uses a plastic white holder the motherboard is attached to this.
it's not just adhesive to the board itself like the froniter you need to careful lift it the motherboard off the holder to reveal the battery connector (be gentle the motherboard, sensor & GPS ribbon cables are attached to the battery holder once the connector is released carefully pop a spludger under it and it will come out. That's it then just reverse the process to put it back together.

Hi Joe, what tool did you use to pry open the back cover. I unscrewed the screws but can't find anything that tiny to get it in between edges to pry back open. Hope you can share that info...otherwise, really a nice tutorial.

The Pry tool used in the video was a thin Flathead screwdriver you just have to be very careful not to scratch the back housing if you would like you can use a normal thin pick. Thanks for this video. I have hit a snag. All went according to plan until, just as I was able to re-assemble the watch, the "permanent" ribbon that held the board onto the watch snapped off. The ribbon looks as though it has 4 contacts and didn't appear to be soldered. It seems to me that it might have been attached using some adhesive, but I can't be sure. My first thought was, "after all of this, I will have to send it to Samsung and let them re-attach that ribbon and re-assemble the watch for me" -- which I may have to do, but I thought I'd ask you: Is it possible to re-attached this ribbon CORRECTLY and put this board back in place???? If I can do that, it will take me 2 minutes to complete this project! Thoughts?

    • @Joesge
