    Recent pro tip I was taught was to simply learn to block the ball. Resist the temptation, for intermediate players like myself to punch the ball back. It’s helped a lot! Great video Kyle 😂

    Good advice. It's not really that hard to send it back to a banger when you know exactly what he's going to send you - every time. The key lies your analogy to bullies. If you keep resetting they'll just keep banging on you...except the reset has invited them up to the NVL and now they're only 14 feet away. Then the banging turns into body bagging attempts. That's been my experience and it was getting old. Then I found this video
    The "take home" for me was to get yourself to the NVL ASAP while keeping the bangers pushed back to the baseline. That's been working for my partner and me over the last month. A banger is generally happy to be back at the baseline taking batting practice and it's also where he poses the least threat to us. We're getting a lot of gifts now from the bangers. Net balls, out balls, and shoulder high drives we can cut a hard angle on or dead-drop for winners.
    Thanks for the advice.
    I used to hate the bangers. Now I love the bangers.

  • @MrSupasonics

    I have table tennis background, what I do is hit back hard (counter bang) or chop for short spin. I think in pickleball it is called slice, but mine is a bit more close to TT chop compared to pickleball slice, somewhere in the middle. It looks like block, but I add a bit wrist move and slight more vertical direction arm move to apply spin, makes ball bounce short or even back spin. A little different from slice but very similar. I also used to stop against hard strokes, but I found that bangers learned it and expect my block to counter, so that is how I began to counter bang or slice/chop. I think my table tennis background helps me with counter bang reflex and chopping skill. I think slice and table tennis chop (a little more vertical pickleball slice) can work in pickle, just need practice, and good power at impact timing.

    I love the idea of the back hand punch with the knuckle over handle grip when at the kitchen line. But I'm struggling when I have to switch to the forehand. Should I learn how to hit up close with that other grip? Or should I get better at changing my grip when moving to the forehand to the forehand?

  • @robedwards6926
    @robedwards6926 8 місяців тому +1

    Hi, two questions...if your opponent hits everything hard and never drops. They just play pickleball like tennis...can you just stand in the transition zone, thus giving you more time to judge if the ball is going out and give you more time to move?
    Also, I have a hard time trying to get bangers to dink. I feel that my drop is good but they are still hitting it hard. Maybe my drop is bouncing to high or I'm not getting out the way of out balls. Any idea on how to solve this? Do I need to make the ball bounce lower and closer to the back side of the net to give less of an angle to hit it hard?

    As a banger myself, these tips are interesting and helpful to non bangers. A good banger looks not only for space to bang the ball into, but their oppositions movement and stance. A combination of all or any of these things determines when I bang, though typically the harder and lower I hit the ball at you, the more often I’ll be forcing a mistake out of you. I’m around a 3.5 at my club and been playing for 4 months.

    This is a great video, but what we (as beginners) need to understand is that until you have a good/solid foundation on paddle/control, you will not be successful, and likely why you/they are banging away anyway. You can beat a banger with good fundamentals and a banger will always be able to best a player lacking those fundamentals more times than not. I have already started to dislike playing, and it's mostly because there's no dinking here in Florida at all the local rec courts...but what I need to come to the realization is, that I'm not as good as I need to be to be able to beat the bangers at their own game. That may come with time, or not...but the issue is less to do w/ the bangers and more to do with my lack of skillset.

    Here's the problem.....EVERY SINGLE paddle/racquet sport in history evolves to faster, harder shots. To play at the competitive level you have to be ready for this game to evolve. Sports HISTORY is against you; ping pong, badminton, tennis, racquetball etc. Unless the Pickleball Association keeps adding rules to nerf this kind of play. Sure there will be times where to try and slow the game down but the way of dink ball is going the way of the dinosaurs. You see it even now at the pro level. Great tips for now, but as this sport grows so will the athleticisms threshold increase in order for players to stay competitive.
