  • Ventrac approached us about using one of their machines for use in our business. It has been so much fun getting to use this piece of equipment and to see everything it is capable of doing.
We put it to work in one of the retention ponds we regularly maintain to see what she had!

They are a great machine for their purpose, but they art a real rough terrain mower. I've been running one for almost 15 years around the farm and have learned a few things:
    1. They have great floatation, especially with the duals, but when you do start to sink in, it'll pack the tire tread and be stuck real quick. But it'll beat any other mower out there as far as floatation.
    2. It doesn't have a whole lot of ground clearance. That, coupled with the small (relative to tractors) tires means that as soon as you start to sink it'll bottom out and you'll lose traction and be stuck.
    3. Don't get too close to a tree or post at the articulation point. If you do, it'll get between the tires and you'll just work yourself over into it and will have to pull the Ventrac sideways to get it out. This is especially easy when your mowing a sideslope and go above a post. It's really easy to slide into it a little bit, then your stuck.
    4. In the 16 years I've been running one, I've only gotten it stuck because of the above reasons about 4 times. And that's running on some really steep sideslopes and over quite marshy terrain. If you keep in mind that it is designed to be a versatile heavy duty lawn mower, then you'll do alright with it. I can forsee it being quite useful to ya in keeping retention basins mowed on a regular basis with little ground disturbance.

Congrats to you & the Mrs. for getting the opportunity to use the Ventrac. I've been using one since 2014, when I got it so I could more easily and safely mow some steep highway overpasses. It's a different beast and takes a bit of getting used to but tackles jobs no other mower does, IMHO. Plus, unlike other "slope" mowers, it's extremely versatile -- a big plus for use in the winter, for example. Have fun!

My job was cutting the grass near the fence, under trees and other rough areas. One day I got to a location the grass was really tall, did not think of it being swampy, I started cutting and I got stuck, had to walk to maintenance yard for someone to pull me out. LOL . I am glad to see your good fortune. It is nice to see your lady and family as well. It seems the Ventrac is not your only blessing. She is a great example to other young ladies that machinery operation can be done by both men and women. I can assure you the fact your family works and works well together is a priceless blessing.to your children. My birth family did not work. Your slip up had great value in this area. Most dads just worry about their kids asking for a car, not their own skidsteer.
I wish you and your all God's blessings. You clear deserve and cherish those you get.. I am not a church going man. Good men and women like you and your lady help restore my often battered faith in both God and people.Your videos do far more than just show off your skills. May God protect you and yours.

I like your gate opening method. Who needs a key just take it off the hinges...... Stoney Ridge Farmer has one of those machines and he uses it a lot. Don't know his agreement with Ventrac. Don't know if he bought it or thay have a similar arrangement. They are very versatile machines. Think I would rather have a chevron type tire for your application. They don't load up as quickly in muddy conditions. Hate you got it stuck on its maiden voyage but they said "see what it will do" and so you did. Nice of your wife to come rescue you.

Not sure if Ventrac shared this with you, but if you get a chance check out Stoney Ridge Farmer. He has the same type of relationship with Ventrac. A great machine, made in America! Great channel you have, really enjoy watching!

I have had mine for 3 years. You will love it. Put the front tires back on. They will keep it from bottoming out.

They were right. I love watching the Ventrac tear it up. Hope Toro doesn’t ruin them.
