Back in the AU when Ford went to an aluminium cross member that stud was only threaded in. There was an issue with the stud backing out and they had to issue a recall to put a tack weld on the stud to stop them backing out.
Minor correction - real heavy-duty universal joints do have drilled grease passageways through the cross, and a grease nipple on the cross that feeds them. I greased thousands of those bastards when I was working as a truck mechanic.
This reminds me of my childhood, changing the uni in my dads Kingswood... "haven't we done this before?" We had done it before probably 50,000K's, it should have lasted longer, maybe we didn't grease it properly.
I also replace the grease in the idler pullys on my barra with high pressure w bearing grease, just pop out the rubber seal. They last a lot longer as I've had issues with the factory ones being noisy only after a few thousand ks. Love the channel keep it up!👍
good old Hardy Spicer. i use to work for them making drive shafts for cars, trucks, and other things. i will say that i never liked that brand of uni when i had to use those. they were just cheaper made than the Hardy spider brand of the same series uni. the grease in them is fine, you just have to add more grease wants its assembles.
If you stagger power between those two wires with a 2 second delay they prime alot faster. Simple 555 delay timer on the blue wire will do it, this will help that you don't have to wait for the pump to prime quite so long.
Hey benny, can we get a little more info of the power steering conversion? E.g the AN fitting that you used on the rack side, also what taper is required on the knuckles to suit factory tierod end?
Correction ; -6AN is equivalent to 9/16 JIC
Who is Paulie? As I need someone who can ream knuckles. Can't find anyone with the tapered reamer
The advantage of hydraulic fittings is you can go either side fitting size of the hose... and they are steel not chinesium aluminium..
"I'm so old" as Benny picks something up off the floor 👍

Love the shout out for Jeff!! Loved the 680g and the alfararri is going to be amazing!
As always your audio engineer is killing it again today! Love the content (and the editing)!!
Proper crimped terminals and not those crappy pre-insulated items 👍👌
Great work Benny

1350 series motorsport ones like in the Cresta are solid
Keep that old yolk. Come in handy for gearbox/engine removals to stop oil pouring out.

The beauty of the astra power steering pump is twofold.
1 it’s the only reliable part on an astra
2 it took an Astra off the road 😂

Another awesome episode! Cheers Benny!
Thst stud weld was a recall repear as thay wear backing out
This was some fun watching love the longer video my friend!
So good on the tips for the hydralic hose for the PS pump, I'm looking to do this mod for an S13 rack that's in an RX7. just have to source a pump now
awesome work lads
Tattslotto = Siggy Benny !!!!👍🍻
Considering your a Mechanical Stig and not an engineer solid 8 1/2 on the welds!!! Love your work Benny!!
When I did my pretrades here in New Zealand Mechanics were expected and trained how to weld. Pretty sure aussy is the same
@@jonathanwright5550 only very basic welding module in aus, like 4 hours mig 4 stick, 4 oxy
@@BennysCustomWorks sounds about the same
Engineers have no ducking idea how to weld.

Awesome double video mate! Yeww
only usable part from a astra is 100% ture 👍

Jeff Benny colab would be awesome!
Won’t rate your weld, but I love your welding outfit. OHS up top, feeling the breeze down on the pins. 😂
Cute hammer.🥰
I hear the taxi falcon yelling out "that's my chin spoiler" doo it maaaate
Can't say I've seen someone remove the studs to swaps racks before. I typically just pull the cat out of the way
Ummmmm what’s the part number for that oil “pump”
Absolutely pretty cool to see the HED sticker on the wall.

Will do mate.
@@BennysCustomWorks thanks man! Muchly appreciated keen to hear about it soon
Siggy !!
What temperature does the thermostat open please?
Here in Brazil this Astra's pumps costs a fortune
They aren’t always super common I guess, they’re everywhere here in Aus
Are you running the power steering pump full send or do you have it controlled for speed variation?
Full send
What is the name of that fluid pump you used to fill gearbox with oil ?!
Steve.
Steve rocks! Where can I get my own Steve ?!
@@_Hani_26 i got it from ebay from memory
Now, now, what about the safety guard on your grinder….naughty.
Never heard of her?
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was told that they were optional. My point was made clear when I bought one and the bolts to attach it weren’t in the box. 🤣
@@PaulyDTheKiwi About as optional as a kebab without garlic sauce, try and claim any damage on insurance! They’ll knock you back bigtime
Is there anything Benny can't do?
Bend over or move without complaining or making a noise
Apparently his Midwifery skills need some work
It's not mine, honestly...
666th like lol today satan
