When this song came out 21 years ago, my sister said this was the most beautiful song she ever heard. She died from an acute asthma attack a couple of weeks later. I can’t listen to this song without crying and thinking of her. Thank you for reacting to this song
The story behind it is also really beautiful as well... if I'm not mistaken he wrote it for his partner at the time after her father had passed away. He asked her what he could do and she asked him to fix her. Cue me sobbing lol
Omg! Coldplay has soooo many wonderful songs! The Scientist, Clocks, Fix You, Hymn For The Weekend featuring Beyonce. You guys need to dive in! Yellow was one of their first big hits and that was ages ago. They have a huge catalog of music. Chris Martin is the lead singer. He was married to actress Gweneth Paltrow and they have 2 children. He actually wrote Fix You for Gweneth when she lost her dad.
Were you shocked with Gwyneth doing a duet with Huey Lewis (Crusin'), in the movie, Duets (a great movie, a must see if you haven't)! Who knew?!! I didn't, she sings!
@@8fran08-47 You should see her in the movie "Country Strong" with Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester. Oh my goodness! I was blown away by how remarkable Gwyneth Paltrow could sing! What a beautiful and spectacular voice! If you've never seen it, you *should* !😁🙏😺🍀
The scientist is their best song for me, they made 2 good albums and then got rich and didn't write or make good music after that, that's just my opinion n all
Great to hear you react to Coldplay. I'm a retired London taxi driver and have had the pleasure of picking up Chris Martin a couple of times, once with Gwyneth Paltrow and I can tell you he is one the nicest most genuine down to earth guys you could wish to meet. First time I picked him up was 6.30 am Christmas Day and he was going to do some charity work at a homeless shelter he said it's all about giving something back, and we had a great chat about his latest album. Months later i picked him up again and he recognised me, asked me how i was and how he enjoyed our chat last time. Great guy!
I'm totally shocked you guys haven't done Coldplay before! WILDLY successful and are truly the masters of the earworm....meaning they've got more songs that are guaranteed to stick into your brain for days and days after hearing them the first time, because their melodies are just sooo darn catchy its unreal! As others have said, I'd recommend "The Scientist" next.
Coldplay is still relevant and selling out stadiums around the world. Their live shows are unmatched. Goosebumps all around. Coloratura is a masterpiece.
I can't believe this song is over 20 years old! I remember thinking the first time i heard it that I had never heard anything quite like it. Still my favorite Cold Play song- and they have such a great catalog.
You guys should react to more Coldplay… "Viva la Vida", "Fix You", "The Scientist", "Clocks", "In My Place", "Speed of Sound", "Don't Panic", "Shiver", "Sparks", "Spies", "Troubles", "God Put a Smile upon Your Face", "Lost!", "42" 🎸🤘
Imagine someone writing this song for you. Incredible. “Fix You” is a bit of an anthem, very emotional. But then, they’ve written anthem after anthem. You’re gona love them!
Clocks is the Rocker Jay looks for and Fix You & The Scientist Chris Martin's voice hits all that emotion Amber looks for. Truely an amazing band saw them perform in Houston and the band performed a Tribute to Johnny Cash singing "Ring of Fire" & Jay it was "Straight Fire"
You have me confused for a moment as I was reading Jay. You were talking about Jay z and Beyonce since they were so tight with Chris Martin and Gwyneth paltrow.
Their debut album, “Parachutes”, is fire! Their follow-up album, “A Rush Of Blood To The Head”, was one of the best of the 2000’s!! “X & Y” was solid as well!!! You cannot go wrong with these guys.
I am so glad that this was the first song you heard by them, it is a delicate vocal masterpiece. I can’t wait to watch you react to more. Some suggestions would be The Scientist, Fix You, and Clocks.
The singer, Chris Martin has said he wrote the song in 10 minutes. There was a break in recording, needed to wait for things, he wanted to do a Neil Young impression, came up with "look at the stars" and the rest flowed. Amazing how songs come to life
I love that y'all have discovered Coldplay. Yes! If you like Yellow, you'll love some of the other suggestions below. I'll echo, "The Scientist" and "Fix You."
The first album, Parachutes, that this came from was brilliant. They experimented with different styles across the album, which made it super interesting. One of the best debut albums I’ve ever heard.
I have always loved Coldplay, I’m so lucky to be British and have heard Coldplay songs all throughout various points in my life, they make so much brilliant music there’s so much for you to listen too. So I'm a huge Coldplay fan and have been to see them in concert twice, and I'm here to tell you they have been the BEST concert I have ever been to! From that point on, that was out special song and she became a big Coldplay fan from that point on. Years later, we went to see them together. Also when I was going through something extremely painful in my life and she was a teen, she sent "Fix You" to me as her song to me. "Paradise" reminds me of my middle daughter and that's my song for her. Many reactors often say, when listening to older songs, that they don't write lyrics or songs like they used to. Over all, that's true, with the exception of Coldplay! And what they stand for....they are all about humanity!
So excited that you’re finally checking out Coldplay and this is one of my favorites from them 💛💛 It’s actually the very first song on my main playlist! One of my other favorites that I haven’t seen anyone really mention is Violet Hill
SO excited y’all have started your Coldplay journey! Such an incredible band! Another band I think you’d enjoy is Snow Patrol. They’re another one of my favorite bands of all time! They also do an excellent job of mixing hard and soft sounds.
From Wikipedia I found this: "On The Howard Stern Show in November 2011, Chris Martin explained to Stern that he was impersonating Neil Young while entertaining guests when he came across the first chord of the song, which stuck with him for a bit; then in a Neil Young voice he sang "look at the stars". Martin went on to further explain that the word "yellow" has absolutely no meaning whatsoever and while writing the rest of the song he tried his best to change "yellow" to something else since every lyric before yellow made no sense but in the end the word "yellow" just sounded right. Martin also told Stern that through the years depending on the attitude and manner of whoever interviews him, he would make up some story about a song or album titles just to move on to the next question. Martin applauded Stern saying "I like you, Howard, so that's the first time I've ever told anyone the truth behind 'Yellow'".
@@Spear77 The two stories don't contradict each other. The Howard Stern story doesn't mention where the word "yellow" came from, only that it was a placeholder that sounded right.
I really like Coldplay, the first time I ever heard Chris sing I thought it was Bono for a minute and I'm a huge U2 fangirl so naturally I liked them right away. I realized later that Chris has a nasal voice which is distinct and they sound nothing like U2 but it's how I remember them most. BTW, more U2 please!!!!!
if you listen to a radiohead song like "fake plastic trees" you can find where coldplay had some of their inspiration, especially in that singing raw and emotional. I love yellow, i love the video in the rainy lonely beach, it is simple and beautiful. I thinnk you could react to speed of sound next, and if you want some bands from the same era to find what makes this songs sound special, you can also check Keane's "somewhere only we know", starsailor "crossfire", travis "sing"
Coldplay are a British band that have a huge back catalogue but you have started at the beginning. They have played massive concerts all over the world. There is a video you will find on UA-cam where Chris Martin (lead singer) invites someone from the crowd to play their song Everglow on the piano (it’s in Munich) and it’s just beautiful.
This is one of my fav songs. I know lots of people who have used this as their wedding song, but for me it is always dedicated to my children and the wonder of bringing them into the world and watching them develop into the people they have become, now with their own children. Easy tears. Wonderful memories. Next I would suggest Paradise or Adventure of a Lifetime.
Coldplay is my favorite modern band. So many great songs, I've seen them twice in concert. Yellow was their first hit. Others are Clocks, The Scientist, Fix You, Speed of Sound, Viva La Vida, Paradise, and more... Lately they've experimented with new sounds but their older stuff is great.
Yay, you broke the Coldplay seal! And you began with my favorite song of theirs as well as one of my all-time faves of any artist. Coldplay was definitely incredibly popular in the early 2000s. Their album A Rush Of Blood To The Head came out in 2002 and blew up. “Clocks,” arguably their most famous song, is on that record-great song, great hook, and so well-produced. When I think of the early 2000s their sound immediately comes to mind. In addition to “Clocks,” definitely don’t miss “The Scientist” and “In My Place” from the same record.
Coldplay is my all-time favorite band!!! Amber, this band is all about emotion and it is a beautiful thing to behold! They have a massive catalog of awesome songs. I think “Clocks” should be the next one on your list. (Also, Snow Patrol needs to be the next band you listen to. They broke big in the early 2000s. I recommend “Run”) A lot of people like to complain that they only like Coldplay’s first two albums. Personally, i have thoroughly enjoyed listening to their evolution as artists. It has been a major joy in my life. I’ve been lucky enough to see them live several times. If i had to describe it in one word? “Magical!”
Chris Martin said that he wrote the entire song in about 10 minutes. During soundcheck he was doing an impression of Neil Young and this song came out of it.
Oh god I love a good Coldplay journey . They are MAGIC. Please just dive in you will not regret it . So full of love and emotional . Don’t listen to ppl saying only their first 4 albums are good it’s so inaccurate . They are insane and grew as artist into something so beautiful god I could cry just thinking about their catalog ❤️ Chris Martins falsetto is 🫠 also since you don’t know much about them the lead singers heart and kindness is even bigger then his talent !!
Coldplay is beyond awesome! Some of the most beautiful and touching songs of all time. Keane is another band with great songs like Coldplay 😀 Do "Trouble" by Coldplay next Rob and Amber please 😀 The lead singer of Coldplay Chris Martin was married to actress Gwyneth Paltrow for a long time. I think they have two kids together anyway Great reaction to a great band 😀
Fix you. I wasn't ever a huge fan of Cold Play. I never went out of my way to listen to their music. But when I finally did, his voice is beyond gorgeous. I will say again, Fix You. That was the song that sold me on Cold Play. It melts me and plays on my heart strings. If it doesn't make you emotional, I seriously don't know what else would.
They are in my top 3 bands ever for sure. I just saw them live and it was unlike anything I've ever been a part of. They give you wristbands that light up with the music and there were 55 thousand of us. Amazing band. In my place, Amsterdam, and every teardrop is a waterfall are amazing songs
Coldplay played the 2016 Superbowl with guests Beyonce and Bruno Mars. Check out their song with BTS, My Universe. They released Yellow in 2000 and released Music of the Spheres in 2021. Incredible band, other songs to check out: Hymn For the Weekend (with Beyonce), Everglow (my favorite), Up&Up, The Scientist, Viva La Vida, A Sky Full of Stars (with Avicii), Adventure of a Lifetime, Army of One, Let Somebody Go (with Selena Gomez). I can go on and on. So glad you liked Coldplay!
When I first heard them 20 years ago I was an instant fan. They've got 20 years of hits and are still producing...even today. Everyone has posted great selections here. Probably my favorite...because it sets me in a "mood"...is A Message. Not as well known but it gets to me every time. Glad you enjoyed Coldplay and would love to hear more reactions.
Just a great song, his singing hits my emotions in this song...and the video is awesome, I really like how they waited for the exact perfect time to begin filming as the Sun is rising
This song means do much to me. When my son was born in 2000 this song was being played a lot on the radio and it was the first song we put on his bedtime playlist, it’s still special to him and me. We sign off every text with a yellow heart even though he’s almost 22! 💛
Coldplay is awesome in the first 3 albums. You gotta check out “The Scientist”…Amber will get emotional with that one & “Fix You”….very sweet songs ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I am literally sitting here shaking my head at how this is the first time you've heard Coldplay. Man, you guys have some catching up to do. Clocks and Viva La Vida would be my suggestions for your subsequent reactions.
I love this song! I'm glad you started your journey into Coldplay with this. They have so many great tracks all of which have been listed by others, so I won't repeat them. I look forward to your next dive into Coldplay.
Such a classic song, the melody is just killer. And great video, with Chris Martin walking in the dark and then by the end of the video it's the break of dawn. This song is loved by other artists as well. Rob Thomas tells a story of the first time he heard Yellow he was in his car. "Yellow came on the radio, and I drove around the block so I could finish listening to it."
Their second album, "A Rush Of Blood To The Head," is one of the best sounding albums I've heard. The sound is lush, and I have a nice little stereo audio set up. The separation, sound stage, all the things that make an album "sound" great have been checked off. The songs are pretty good too.
Well, there's a lot of Coldplay (and Chris Martin) history you can catch up on! Together with U2, they're the biggest stadium bands of the past 20 years. From what I've heard, the reason not so many people react to them, is that their copyright is more strict
This is one of my favorite bands. I recommend "Fix You" next. then "The Scientist", "Clocks", "Adventure of a Lifetime", "Speed of Sound", "Viva La Vida". So many good ones. I saw them in concert once. So good.
In Australia, this song was used in a campaign of the Australian Cancer Council for Daffodil Day, which I guess was about appreciating others in our lives battling cancer.

I've seen coldplay live 4 times. There is no band like them to see live. Every live show they give every ounce they have to their fans. Watch concert footage and you will grasp and understand why MILLIONS go see them live.
Coldplay has to be one of the greatest artists of our time, please react more to them, you will not be disappointed. Viva La Vida, Clocks and The Scientist are a few of my favourites.
This song was my first introduction to Coldplay. À Seattle radio station put out a compilation cd of up and coming artists, and handed them out at a U2 concert. Yellow was on it and I instantly fell in love with Coldplay. Please do a deep dive into their music❤️❤️❤️
Damn. It's crazy you guys haven't done more Coldplay yet. Love em or hate em, even though they are relatively recent, they're still one of the biggest acts in the history of music. So many other huge hits: - Talk - The Scientist - Don't Panic - The Hardest Part - God Put a Smile Upon Your Face - Fix You - Paradise - Clocks - Sky Full of Stars - Trouble - Sparks - Viva la Vida - Violet Hill - In My Place - Speed Of Sound - Every Teardrop is a Waterfall It's no exaggeration to say that every single one of the songs in the above list is an absolute classic and a banger that has been heard and loved by hundreds of millions of people. Like if you're one of those people who are like "why was music in the 70s, 80s and 90s so good but it sucks now?", Coldplay will prove to you that amazing music was still being made in the 2000s and beyond. And then check out like The Gorillaz and Tame Impala and stuff...
Listened to this again just before bed. Still a song about my love for my kiddos. They are grown with families of their own and the stars still shine for each one of them and I would still do anything for them. They are always my little stars no matter what age they are.
The last bit of this where they change the d chord for a d minor is one of my favorite ever transitions. So subtle but it adds just a little bit of melancholy to this lovely song.
I’m so glad you have touched on Coldplay. Soooo many great pieces. A Rush of Blood to the Head, especially the 2003 Live at Sydney version and also Warning Sign, Hi Speed, just so many. They can put me in the same head space as Pink Floyd.

I thinnk you could react to speed of sound next, and if you want some bands from the same era to find what makes this songs sound special, you can also check Keane's "somewhere only we know", starsailor "crossfire", travis "sing"
Yep, agreed. I love 'Speed of Sound'.
Nicked and did in a more boring fashion.
Fake plastic trees is one of my favorite songs of all time.🙏💙
Maybe for the first couple of albums, but they eventually turned into trendy, overproduced shite.
Also, they would find out just how utterly dreadful Coldplay are. Comparing them with Radiohead is like equating a pedal car to a Ferrari.
Love Coldplay their music is exquisite. Wonderful choice
This was their breakthrough single in the UK. I haven't liked everything they've done, but they've got a lot of heart. Great reaction!
I'm no coldplay super-fan, but it's really really hard to not have heard of them! That might be considered a skill :)
Right..👍
IKR 😃
Me too, I don't like this type of slow rock, also his voice is kinda meh for me, however I have heard most of their songs, because they are just huge.
Bruh their first three albums are insanely good… please listen to those ….. they are incredible
Glad you guys are liking coldplay and wanting more, coldplay's best song is and always will be SHIVER . Enjoy
I love how she feels the music and actually listens
Coldplay "SPEED OF SOUND" is my favorite!!! 💜
Early Coldplay was a thing of beauty.
Another artist from the same time period with an amazing voice is Five For Fighting. 2 of his great songs is "100 Years" and "Superman".
yea amber will love those
I think they’d appreciate The Riddle, too.
They got some great music!!! Enjoyed the reaction!! "Fix You" and "The Scientist" are my favs.
I recommend “Run”)
A lot of people like to complain that they only like Coldplay’s first two albums. Personally, i have thoroughly enjoyed listening to their evolution as artists. It has been a major joy in my life. I’ve been lucky enough to see them live several times. If i had to describe it in one word? “Magical!”
Song played during the breakup of my first love about 20 odd years ago. This song will always hold a special place in my heart.
I was looking for someone to mention Keane. They were the first band that came to mind for me
Yes Keane! Love their stuff and so rarely see reactions to their music.
I’ve just come on and mentioned Keane too. Good shout!
Keane is SO good
Keane is definitely under rated. Muse is another band mentioned as being similar to Radiohead and Coldplay.
I find some of their songs so beautiful I can't listen to them without feeling overwhelmed with emotions
You Guys Have To See COLDPLAY Live In Concert When They Come To Your Town.Guaranteed You Won't Regret It 💯
Coldplay gets so much undeserved hate and I never understood it, I think they’re absolutely brilliant
Love Coldplay! "Clocks" next time, definitely!
I love this song! I'm glad you started your journey into Coldplay with this. They have so many great tracks all of which have been listed by others, so I won't repeat them. I look forward to your next dive into Coldplay.
Would love to see you guys do a live version of the Dave Matthews Band… Maybe “Ants marching” or All along the Watchtower” or “Two Step”
don't think they have reacted to any DAVE MATTHEWS BAND yet, been waiting for it. think they'll really enjoy it!!👍😃👍
Such a classic song, the melody is just killer.
Cold play has some great music! Favourite song is a sky full of stars official video!
“Fix you” should be next on the list, fabulous song and great video to boot!
Their second album, "A Rush Of Blood To The Head," is one of the best sounding albums I've heard. The sound is lush, and I have a nice little stereo audio set up. The separation, sound stage, all the things that make an album "sound" great have been checked off. The songs are pretty good too.
My fav album to go on long drives with.....there's just something about the line in one of the songs, "Slowly breaking thru to daylight..." LOVE IT!
I love Coldplay. I've gotten to see them live twice and they are amazing live. You all definitely need to check out more of their songs.
Well, there's a lot of Coldplay (and Chris Martin) history you can catch up on! Together with U2, they're the biggest stadium bands of the past 20 years. From what I've heard, the reason not so many people react to them, is that their copyright is more strict
WOW! Their parade of songs are endless. Magnificent!
They were soooooo good. I absolutely cannot listen to anything after the Viva album though. It makes me sad. The first few albums are👌🏼👌🏼
Coldplay has quite the library of great songs. The song that I really like is “Magic”.

Omg, Next Time I Fall is one of my all time faves!!! 🤩🥰
Hoe about Paula Cole - I believe in Love
I've seen coldplay live 4 times. There is no band like them to see live. Every live show they give every ounce they have to their fans. Watch concert footage and you will grasp and understand why MILLIONS go see them live.
Shaking my head at my dude. They headlined the super bowl 50 halftime show! ....never heard of Coldplay 😆💀
Coldplay has to be one of the greatest artists of our time, please react more to them, you will not be disappointed. Viva La Vida, Clocks and The Scientist are a few of my favourites.
02:38 worst pause ever lol
This song was my first introduction to Coldplay. À Seattle radio station put out a compilation cd of up and coming artists, and handed them out at a U2 concert. Yellow was on it and I instantly fell in love with Coldplay. Please do a deep dive into their music❤️❤️❤️
“Clocks” was my wedding song. Love Chris Martin’s voice.
Damn. It's crazy you guys haven't done more Coldplay yet. Love em or hate em, even though they are relatively recent, they're still one of the biggest acts in the history of music. So many other huge hits:
- Talk
- The Scientist
- Don't Panic
- The Hardest Part
- God Put a Smile Upon Your Face
- Fix You
- Paradise
- Clocks
- Sky Full of Stars
- Trouble
- Sparks
- Viva la Vida
- Violet Hill
- In My Place
- Speed Of Sound
- Every Teardrop is a Waterfall
It's no exaggeration to say that every single one of the songs in the above list is an absolute classic and a banger that has been heard and loved by hundreds of millions of people.
Like if you're one of those people who are like "why was music in the 70s, 80s and 90s so good but it sucks now?", Coldplay will prove to you that amazing music was still being made in the 2000s and beyond.
And then check out like The Gorillaz and Tame Impala and stuff...
A unique band that only makes music I like. Literally albums full of hits not a single miss!
Listened to this again just before bed. Still a song about my love for my kiddos. They are grown with families of their own and the stars still shine for each one of them and I would still do anything for them. They are always my little stars no matter what age they are.
Clocks is my favorite Coldplay song. It's perfect
This band has so many hits, there's so much you'd like in their discography
The last bit of this where they change the d chord for a d minor is one of my favorite ever transitions. So subtle but it adds just a little bit of melancholy to this lovely song.
I have loved this song for SO many years! Thank you so much for reacting. Im glad you enjoyed it!
From the first time I heard this song 20+ yrs ago to now, it makes me tingle every single time..it's timeless
Gosh, I was 23 when this came out. I'm 47 now, but it brings back all the wonders, loves and hearbreaks of those years like it was yesterday ❤💔
Same age as Chris Martin!
Dope reaction guys! One of my favorite songs of all time. Thanks for the vid.
I cannot wait for y’all to go down this rabbit hole. The lyrics with Coldplay are always amazing. 💕 Beautiful reaction.
I have always loved how the last few chords were played. One of my favorite songs .
I’m so glad you have touched on Coldplay. Soooo many great pieces. A Rush of Blood to the Head, especially the 2003 Live at Sydney version and also Warning Sign, Hi Speed, just so many. They can put me in the same head space as Pink Floyd.
