- Join me on an adventure as we unveil the hidden secrets of Holy Island, also known as Lindisfarne!
Our journey begins with a drive across The Causeway, but be warned, timing is everything - you don't want to get caught by the tide!
We'll delve into the charming village, exploring its rich history before stepping back in time at the magnificent St. Mary's Church, some parts dating back a 1000 years. Next, we'll uncover the secrets of the Holy Island Priory, built upon the very foundation of the original monastery established by St. Aidan himself in 634 AD, tragically destroyed by Vikings long ago.
Then we'll explore Holy Island's harbour. To top it all off, we'll embark on a climb to the imposing Lindisfarne Castle, perched atop a dramatic rocky crag. Built by Henry VIII in the 1540s, this historic lHoly Island Castle was later transformed into a stunning holiday home by the renowned architect Edwin Lutyens in the early 20th century.
Get ready to be transported to a world of history, mystery, and breathtaking scenery!

You were spot on when you said what an incredible place this is!
Cheers Steve. Keen to return on a clearer day. Would also be good to stay behind whilst everyone else hoofs it off the island to miss the tide - bet it's great during that quiet period!
Spent a great weekend there. Visited the castle and priory and walked right along the coastline. The weather was so clear and when you took in the view to the Northumberland coastline you could see Banburgh castle another great place to visit which we did that weekend
Cheers Alister. I thought about doing Bamburgh Castle as well but when I couldn’t see it because of the gloomy clouds I decided to leave it until another day. Thanks for watching. 🏰
Fantastic video Roger, I've been over a few times, yes the website is ideal for tide times, I've never had a problem, beautiful place to visit, really busy in summer though 👍
Thanks Robert. I was very taken with it. My first time going over. Would love to do the trip on a clear sunny day! 😀
Hi Roger, been there a few times..... its a great place for photography.... top video yet again... cheers Roger....Richard in Newcastle upon Tyne.
That Castle is and Instagram dream for sure! 😀
Great that you enjoyed your Lindisfarne visit, Roger. Did this trip a year past September, and will definitely do again. Had a nice lunch, good ice cream and took away some mead for friends! Yes, plenty to explore in NE Northumberland. Nice one Roger! 😊 👍
I totally forgot the Mead! I’m an absolute Muppet. I’d intended to buy some and do a tasting in the video! 🙄
Always the next time! Good excuse for a return visit, for it's a place definitely seeing again!
That was FASCINATING!!!! I love all the crazy cool places that you visit!!!
Thanks Betsy. Lindisfarne is somewhere I've wanted to go for a long time. And when I was growing up my Dad used to listen to the 1970's band, Lindisfarne, a kind of prog folk rock band! 😀
Wow, it's really like a mini-Mont St Michel isn't it! Now it's on my UK radar, in addition to the Berwick walls, thanks to Daddy Rog! POOOKE!!
Absolutely like a mini-Monty St M! Thanks for watching Red! 😀
Very cool video Roger, thanks for sharing this adventure into Lindisfarne!
Cheers Jett! Definitely worth a visit! 😀
@@RogEdwardsTV If I do, I'll be bringing an album of Lindisfarne songs too! 😁
@JettTyler17 That’s why I tried to find some music that felt fairly folky! 😂☺️
We always used to go there at Whitsuntide when I was a child, I expect it's busier now than it was then.
It was pretty busy TBH - but I imagine it gets busier in the summer.
I've never been over the causeway (only been to the start of it a few times) so will have to do it soon. There is a bus from Berwick but will have to see about the tide times.
Definitely worth a visit! And a bus over the causeway would be way cool! 😀
girmour brown is back from his long holiday on the 1st of july rog edwards tv
