- Holy Island is a tidal island off the North East Coast of England. A monastery was founded here by St Aidan in 634 AD and St Cuthbert became a Bishop here and was buried here. It is likely to have been given the name Holy Island as miracles happened here, people were healed after visiting St Cuthbert's burial place. It has a holy interesting history which I will explain as you watch the video and see the sites. It has been declared as an area of outstanding natural beauty, and it is a beautiful place to go for a day trip.

Was there today. What a beautiful place. I didn't know about the tide covering the road out to it though. Just as well I didn't as I would have been worrying all day about it.

Yes i did too the Catholic church entrusted 20 boys into the care of a pedophile we all went camping, i was a particularly ugly child that saved me from molestation.

Holy Island is actually owned by the Catholic Church since the middle ages, it`s where the name originates from
I love visiting Lindisfarne just in time to drive across and become marooned until the tide goes out again. Wonderful feeling of not being pressured by the mad howl of time!
Beautiful, we pass it on the way to Scotland I'm determined to go there soon. Did you know Polanski's 3rd film "Cul de Sac" 1966 was filmed there in the summer, although black and white you can tell how amazing it is
Thank you for all the information.
