I've finally found a hobby that actually gives me the feeling that I look for in hobbys, witch is being content, and satisfied. Your channel has become a top 3 channel I watch daily, you are definitely makeing a difference for newcomers to this hobby, I'm sure aswell for those experienced hobbyists. -Thanks👍🙂🙂
The best information video i ever seen about these 2 cichlids! I was struggling also with the differences between them! Thank you king Scott! Greets from Belgium
One video from you guys quite literally overshadows visiting the local aquarium the whole year. The cichlid whisperer that's what I'm calling you Scott. Deal with it. Already saved my freddy's from a shitty life and started treating em better after watching your vids,I saw yellows I never even imagined can appear on fresh water species. You're guys are doing a public service and I genuinely think us fresh hobbiests become more conservative in our purchases and buy sensibly sized fish when we see the true size these majestic creatures get to.
The big box stores are CRAP for anything hobby related - That goes for Amazon as well . Folks need to support those businesses that support the hobby . Nice vid Scott
Great vid King!!! The side by side comparison should really help people with identification issues they are having. I bred Red Devils for years and it always drove me crazy when I would see them or the Midas mislabeled in a store. Thanks for sharing as always.
Great video and it was so nice to see them together. Thanks for sharing. There may be many silent Subscribers like me who like your channel and love the Amphilophus
Amazing information! It was so nice to see the red devil and Midas next to each other so you can definitely tell the difference. Thank you for this video 👍🏻
I'm glad you said you can tell that when they are younger cause some people say you can't tell the difference when they are younger I call that bs especially if you've had them all ur life you know what to look for
Thanks. That was a great video on the amphilophus Midas and the Red Devil I own both species like you and I just love them ,very personable a lot of fun and thanks again for recommending the Tetra sticks they love them thanks
Really thoroughly enjoyed how you described the difference between the two fish. Very well done. One other reason to learn scientific names is its universal. Common names change by location so you may not know what the fish is.
I got mine from ebay and the Red devil is looking hard man. Big lips little hump long and pointed snout with big teeth. Absolutly aggressive when I get into my room tho. Maybe I'll upload a vid on him some time. Happy fish-keeping :)
Hey thanks guys, you answered some questions on the red devil/midas question I have had for a long time, like for instance Im at a pet shop and Im looking at a tank called midas cichlid but they just seemed to be red devils and vise-versa. Your guidelines will help out a lot and I will check out the fish suppliers you recommended. Thanks King and Queen cichlids!!!
Man, I sure love some amphilophus. Trying to find a Trimac locally isn't happening apparently. Thanks for telling about reputable distributors. One of my dream fish may soon be a reality.
Hi Scott, I commented a while back; before you took a break on whether I can get a Tri-Mac from you. Also would like jaguar cichlid. I'm located in Md.... Hope you and Liz doing well. Thnx for the content
@@ScottMclaughlinJ I live near Springfield Missouri. Thank you for being so willing to help sir, and thank you for all the knowledge you and your and wife share with us.
I have bought one about 6 plus years ago that was supposed to be a Red Devil but now I'm thinking it may be a Midas or cross between them. Great video on the difference between them! I'm still not sure what I have but he is crazy and doesn't like anyone or anything including my 70 pound dog which he tries to fight through the glass.
Differences I see is the the head of i don't know (the fish) is 1 more square to top of head and bottom of the jaw line .Also the hum is squarer .Bigger humps on any fish is more sought after .
I wish there was a better way too tell if I have a Midas or red devil because mine is solid red but everything I see online it’s been called a midevil and of course mine guy is super chill and lives with my three Oscars and jaguar cichlid
I think the reason he didn't want you to purchase your Midas or your Devil from a chain was authenticity. You want to know want you're buying. I've always loved central Americans. I've had them for many years. I've not kept either of the above though. In fact - I think that I've kept every single cichlid north of Rio and South of San Diego. Except these. And I've always wanted one. The youngster I just purchased - I don't know which one it is ! Never impulse buy ! I've been afraid that over the last 50 years these fish have been hybridized; and the true strains have since been lost. The one I bought is my first. Cichlids are an aquarist's specialization. You say goodbye to your community tanks. You end-up with species tanks (one fish) on stands, furniture, the kitchen, on top of the fridge, the bedroom, the floor, even the bathroom and garage. And a divorce.
I guess I’m lucky. I have one red devil, one Oscar and one pleco in a 100 gallon tank living in harmony for 3 years now. The red devil is a ham, greets me when I get home and follows me around when I get near the tank. It demands attention. The red devil has a dog like personality indeed.
A good reason to use scientific names instead of (or in addition to) common names is that common names differ depending on where you live or the language you speak. Scientific names are the same no matter what (as long as you keep up with reclassifications of course... hello Cichlosoma).
I bought a midas cichlid from a breader he is about 5 inches and dark grey. He hides all the time when will he get color and use to me. He has been in tank about a week. 65 gallon aquarium
BIG LIPS RED DEVIL, BIG HUMP MIDAS. OK I GOT IT 😎👍. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT VIDEO A LOT OF US OUT HERE ALL WAYS WONDER THAT. THANKS FOR SETTING US STRAIGHT. STAY FUNKY PLAYBOY
So I have a jag and I was considering buying one of these do you thinks they could live with each other my jag is 6 inches and he is very aggressive do you think they would be good
In my experience Red Devil’s are more aggressive than Midas. But they’re not born killers like the parachromis species due to the bigger canines and sheer size
There’s nothing like owning a male Dovii Wolf Cichlid. These Red Devil/Midas fish can’t compare. I have a Red Devil in a separate tank though. The Dovii is much more active and inquisitive by far.
I got a natural pure devil. Sorry to disrespect but Midas to me is a generic red devil lmaooo. I hunted down recently about a 7” male true devil. So far he’s behaving! 😂

I realize it is kind of off topic but do anybody know a good site to watch new movies online ?
@Bowie Samir I use Flixzone. You can find it on google =)

TY sir for the very kind words
I saw the local petsmart sell a true Red Devil as a midas cichlid that was the perfect opportunity for me maybe I'll do a short video on mine :)

well said Brother and ty
Petdumb rather than petsmart...

LOVE the amphilophus complex of cichlids! I’m thinking of ordering some barred Midas from cichlids of the americas. Great to see you man!
Great to see you!

Bruce I appreciate you! Tetra sticks are great and helps them get girth fast. Just make sure you feed other stuff besides the sticks for balance
100% agree Scott and brilliant update my Red Devil is called Jagger lol
Ty my Brother- you inspire me for sure

Beautiful fish I just got a red devil. Such an outgoing fish.

Love the video and knowledge! most importantly what that dope watch ya rockin?
LOL- thats my bling bling watch- i wear it when im feeling good
Lineage is also one of the most important with both species. Always get both from reputable keepers or breeders
Amen Joe- my next video will be about that
I got mine from ebay and the Red devil is looking hard man. Big lips little hump long and pointed snout with big teeth. Absolutly aggressive when I get into my room tho. Maybe I'll upload a vid on him some time.

I thought I owed a red devil lol good educational vid
My Red Devil is 12 inches and will bite the crap out of your hand if you try to pet him😂. I still love him...but he's not friendly.
Excellent info about all
Very interesting information thank you sir.
Great video my dude🙏🏽👌🏽
Best information...Thanks ☺️
Good video. Just a reminder the devil you have is a son of Thor, bread by Tony
Yes yes i am going to do a video on Thor and his disciples
👌 one is a true Red Devil & one is a false Red Devil both great fish
Great video 💪💪💪👍👍👍
TY so much! Greatly appreciated
Both beautiful!!
well i did buy a "red devil" from pet smart but something strange is he looks so much like a red devil i can barely notice the midas features.
I wish there was a better way too tell if I have a Midas or red devil because mine is solid red but everything I see online it’s been called a midevil and of course mine guy is super chill and lives with my three Oscars and jaguar cichlid
the red devil has lips like Angelina Jolie 👄
LMAO! Exactly although maybe not as sexy lol
A buddy of mine once said that her lips looks like the big exit hole ring we humans have, just not as round. He ruined me for life.

If those two were in the same tank which one would be the tank boss
Just seen this at the PetSmart where I live, I don't think what they had in the tank was any kind of cichlid.
Can you help folks identify what they have? And can the Petco and PetSmart ones get as big as the ones you have ?
Yea now that my guys finally sized up he’s definitely a red devil.
thanks for the clarification! now.. what kinda watch is that?

Are there red devils with the colors of the other one in the video?
I just got my first last week unsure which one it is yet as it's only 2 inches
Enjoy my friend- either one is a great fish
WILL THEY DO GOOD WITH TURTLES
Very nice nk midas bro👍

He might not ever change colors
@@HAHALoc120 he is now yellow
In the wild, do they cross breed ? Do you think many are mis labeled in the hobby today as pure ?
Where can I find a Midas or red devil with this color variation? I been looking for about 6months now and can’t find them anywhere.
Does have dsl lips like red devil but its midas

My brother you got it! Hope you are well I miss our daily convos. I’m about to relaunch my channel very very soon
Can u fit either in a 90 have an empty 90 I’m trying to make a plan for want to do either a single cichlid or mated pair
So I have a jag and I was considering buying one of these do you thinks they could live with each other my jag is 6 inches and he is very aggressive do you think they would be good
For me it's notoriously difficult to differentiate a juvenile"Midevil" from the true labiatus
BOOKS ?????? WHAT ARE THOSE ? IV SEEN ONE IN A MUSEUM A LONG TIME AGO. I NOW IM GANNA GOOGLE WHAT IS A BOOK AND READ ABOUT IT ON THE INTERNET 😎👍😂🤣😂🤣
What do u do for ammonia levels
I was sold either a red devil or a Midas (still don’t know🤣) as a convict cichlid 🥴
I had my fish since last March I can't tell if it's a male or female
Do they bites hurts
How big is that red devil, it looks huge on your camera
“JESUS” 🤣
Bro, is the aquarium 145x60x55h cm (120 gallons) enough for one pair of Midas for life?
Miss you brother
I have a Midas and a big lipped Red Devil. The difference is obvious
Simple and unfortunate fact is unless the source is reputable you will have no way of knowing what you have.
Is tangled up in cichlids still viable? I heard through one of you creators that the guy who owns the company sold it off.
My fish Red is definitely a Midas or a hybrid. I bought her from petsmart as red devil.smh
You and me both ☹
The red devil looks like a red devil/midas hybrid with no head, my 6" have the lips
Nice Vid….
For me, the Midas cichlid looks more stylish than the red devil
Hybrids are running rampant
Look who's talking 😂
I got my from PetSmart they are beautiful 😂
In my experience Red Devil’s are more aggressive than Midas. But they’re not born killers like the parachromis species due to the bigger canines and sheer size

Have seen a vid where red devil kick ass bigger male dovii cichlid... it depends on the character of the individual fish you have.
It a red devil with Mick Jagger lip.
My red devil killed my Oscar 😭
Red Devil Or Midas
Flower horn will destroy both of them in my opinion I have 2 flower horns and they are born bipolar crazy lmfao 🤣
Your video told me that the fish I rescued is a Midas not a red devil. Allmost exact Match to yours. Mine has a bigger cock tho.
Many thanks bro for your info😘🙏❤️❤️can I have your number please I will what’s app for more doubts I like cichlids mainly amphilophus is my fav
