Fun Fact: If you spared Magus at the cliff and took him as a follower and start this battle with him in your party, Magus' theme plays instead of this and you get some dialogue directly between Zeal and Magus
I'll be forever greatful for the fact that I knew about this while playing the game, making me not being afraid using Magus in my party. I loved using the party of Lucca, Robo and Magus, also this scene was much more impactful, both because of the extra dialogue and Battle with Magus under it. I honestly thought the "with Magus" part in the title of the theme was meant to be a reference to the fact that it can appear both with him as an ally or an enemy, though I later found out this is just a common way of Square titling their character specific battle themes
BRO I JUST BEAT CHRONO TRIGGER THREE HOURS AGO WHAT dude I loved the dialogue where Zeal said “Prophet!” and magus had a little talk, I have no regrets sparing Magus now
As well as Frog Squash in fact for her FIRST 2 turns I ONLY had her use Halation and killed her by using Luminare Frog Squash and Dino Tail BUT since I STOLE 40 to 50 + mega elixers I used the Prism Spects Crono Sun Glasses Ayla and the Power Ring to boost the damage. Her head/hands form IMHO her WORST attack is the FULL party WATER spell so I made sure that Crono Ayla Frog ABSORB that spell before starting ALL the back to back battles at lv 50.
You can counter the Mammon Machine raising its defense by having Frog use a normal attack with the Masamune. They're both made from Dreamstone so it's weak against it
If you bring Magus to this, the second battle with Queen Zeal will be extended with lines from him and the queen reacting to his presence, accompanied by "Magus Confronted" which is a MUCH more fitting BGM for such a climactic battle.
Also, if Frog does a regular attack on the Mammon Machine while it's altering energy, he will be healed if he is equipped with the Masamune. Not sure if it MUST be the upgraded version, but why wouldn't you have it?
I hate doing this fight because it gets rid of the black omen. The black omen is the perfect place for Ayla to repeated steal Megalixers from monsters.
I leave the black omen alone as long as possible and just use it farm out megalixers. It's one of the few places in the game to get a massive quantity of them in one go.
Queen Zeal is most visible villain of entire game (Lavos is more of a plot element) and in the end she is so far gone that killing her doesn't make her understand anything. She merely joins Lavos directly from her bodily vessel which can endure 16 300 years.
Queen Zeal 1 pattern: Halation, MP absorb move, Zeal spheres (used by Golem), loop. Usually. No counters. Mammon Machine (In Japan known as the Demonic Vessel): Store mode on, release energy, Store Mode Off, Still Mode On, Point Flare done twice in a row, Loop. Counters physicals by raising defense, counters magic by raising attack. Values reset after energy is released. Zeal (Left Hand): Dark Beam. Counters with MP Buster/MP Reaver when attacked with anything, including Charm. Zeal (Right Hand): Yellow laser. Counters with Lifeshaver when attacked with anything (reduce HP to 1); including Charm. Zeal (Andross-equse Head): 1st phase: Heavenly Gate multiple times, Starburst/Hexagon Mist, Gears of Darkness/Dark Gear, Loop. 2nd phase (10,000 HP damage is dealt): Halation (only used once per battle), MP Buster (only used once per battle), Heavenly Gate multiple times, Loop. Notes: If Magus is in your party; his theme music plays and there is different dialogue. Starburst/Hexagon Mist uses the Star Of David and has never been edited in any version of this game.
Nope. Zombor comes to mind. As does Magus and the Reptilian enemy in 65M BC. There's a lot of actual bosses in the game, Lavos being the "final boss," but Chrono Trigger did give us a LOT of optional bosses. This is, without a doubt, my favorite video game of all time. There's a lot of great games, but Chrono Trigger did everything so well and gave you so much to do.
@@TheBanishedWind Hindsight in the year 2020, I would have made it easier or harder to beat the Black Omen depending when you entered. I also would have the future one open. Like many good games from that era it needed a difficulty level.

bigmike3192 Queen holdes a natural fortuna over the MC, If you already have the natural judgment of good and evil in either hand, Their is always an embrace to deface and the heart remains true.
It's fiction meaning it doesn't have to make sense. Though what it represents that if you don't defeat Lavos you'll be sealed away for eternity unable to change anything.
It’s weird. I don’t remember Zeal using many of these attacks when I played years ago. Especially Gears of Darkness and that other similar move... Funny how the two attacks vaguely resemble Dark Matter. Wonder if that was intentional to allude to Magus.
Yes well not so much alluding to Magus, just that she is Magus' mother so naturally she'd have Magus' magic talent to some extent, also completely buffed by Lavos. So it makes sense for her to have all magic elements.
Many games these days I hope make beating areas more mandatory. They also need difficulty levels. I'm grateful for the effort put into the best games of that era. We've learned to improve since then. The final game might be as challenging as the gamer wants. I've done and seen some insane stuff myself. We never know how hard is too hard?

Okay so i'm playing Chrono Trigger right now, and I was actually here fighting this boss, but the thing is, I thought this was required, I legit thought I was just continuing the story, and then I found this video and saw it said optional, I got pretty embarrassed

Zeal was the hardest fight in the game, when you face her onto of the black omen. She would do life shaver and then immediately do another move and instantly kill a character.

The naga woman monsters you encounter early on in the Black Omen. Ayla can swipe one from each of them.

The best way is to work backwards. Destroying it in future the working backwards. If you destroy it in 12000B.C it stops existing.
