My friend , Life long friend . We have known each other since we were yeenagers . He was the greatest Gospel Piano player in Gospel music ! He died a few years ago of a '' Widow Maker '' , It's a vary fast leathal heart attack that is so fast , There is no time to say Goodbye . He now plays in Heaven !
Simply put, the greatest piano player who ever lived. He could play any syle as good as any of the supposed "greats." Put Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky, etc in front of him and he could play it. Plus he had what all of those others didn't have. Life in and joy in his playing
You're reaching... and hard too. Yes Anthony was a great gospel pianist but as good as any of the other greats? Arcadi volodos, Marc Andre hamelin, Zimmerman, yundi li, etc etc I can go on. Those I mentioned are in another level of their own as a pianist myself trust me, with the talent I've seen other there Anthony wouldn't even be considered top 100 of all time. Any of these chopin pianist contestants can play anything Anthony burger plays believe me and that's just chopin competition lol.
Simply amazing. God blessed him over the years starting with healing his hand to be able to play gospel music. Can't wait to join all the great piano players in Heaven real soon!!!
I am sure when Anthony Burger graduated from this mortal flesh into the Heavenly realm of Glory, he saw the majestic grand piano made of pure sparkling gold, diamond keys, ruby petals, and perfect tuned chords just awaiting for him when he walked through those glorious pearly gates!! You earned it Anthony !!!!
I never knew him than watching him perform on the screen, the air around him was of simplicity and humility, I pray God will continue to keep his loved ones- we are so blessed each time to watch him play.
Verdayne Miley I remember seeing him in concert in Pennsylvania (I think he was still with the Kingsmen at that point), and the 9’ Steinway piano he was playing took off on him... It just started rolling away, and he had to pull it back. Later, we found out that there had been an earthquake, but was a minor one. It was a funny memory though!
Loved Anthony, miss him and his amazing gifts. Talked with him in person on occasion and he was just as humble and nice as he could be. When we all get to Heaven, we'll see him playing piano there!
Antony, me and my wife had the honor to meet you in Lubbock, Texas. You were great but you always gave the credit to God, I am sure He is saying job well done my child. I look forward to meeting you again in Heaven someday my brother, I loved you and I know God does .
Thank God for Jesus! I remember reading Him saying, "Without Me you can do nothing"...and will never forget that! Anthony had choices to make...and look what he did with the help of Jesus! WOW!!! AWESOME!!! God bless one and all!
Anthony was a God blessed person with he's music talent, I've started to play pipe organ at the age of 5, 1994, now 30 years later almost 31 years I'm still going
When I was a teenager my family went with a group from church to see the Kingsmen. I absolutely fell in love with them. It has been many years since then but I always remembered how much I loved them. I recently discovered these videos on youtube and now I am hooked again!! I just love Anthony Berger. God performed a miracle on him for all of us to enjoy. Its too bad his life was taken too soon. R.I.P. Anthony
Shook hands with Anthony Burger at his concert in Van Buren, Arkansas, several years ago. His hand was amazingly soft! The church was large, but they had to bring in extra chairs. Great concert!
Wow...now I am sad I didn't get to spend some time with him when we sponsered some concerts in my home town. I have been playing southern gospel piano for 30 years and I can only DREAM of being that good. And to think he would have showed me anything if i had just asked! DOH!!
I remember Anthony when he was 16 playing for The Singing Celestrails in small churches in north Alabama. He was great then. He could really put on a show.
I also learn to play by myself. Although in my church there was somebody that could have helped me or gave some hints about playing, never happens. The talents the Lord gives are to share, specially when you try to serve Him in any way possile. I like what I've done playing and also help others. God bless.
Amazing talent he had. He played with Gaither's and it's my understanding that he passed away on a cruise ship as they were on tour. I sure miss watching him play.
I believe it was 2006 that Anthony passed. There is a video on UA-cam that tells about the Angel that placed his hand upon Anthony's shoulder right after a song he was playing. Anthony looked up towards Heaven and died instantly from a massive heart attack. R.I.P. Anthony. Missed and loved by so many
I've been a music director in a small Baptist Church in Maynard Mass, me and a couple of guys decided to put a Trio together, we did a lot of Kingsmen Quartet stuff, I love Anthony Burger,
This guy is not only a wonderful talent in many genre, he is a consummate comedian. Just check out the humour of his classical version of When We All Get To Heaven. Oh, yeah, and the Southern Gospel version is such a lark! I will listen over again. It's on my fav list.
I’ve actually been stonewalled by a few modern gospel piano greats. They want to keep licks and tricks tight to their chest. Wish they had the same sentiment toward sharing ideas as did Jeff stice and Anthony burger in this video. To illustrate this, A few months (little did I realize at the time 😢😢) I emailed Jeff stice asking for a very personal piece of his ministry. I asked for the backing track “down from his glory”. I just play for myself and a small group of people at best. After emailing I was quite embarrassed and thought “who am I” to ask for someone’s bread and butter, hard earned tracks. He emailed the next day with the mp3 attachment 😢😢😢😢. I was in tears. The email contained few words “glad to share, don’t give it away to others. Keep it tight to your chest, god bless you”
And a jazz musician will be able to understand the melody played in Armstrong's style better than in Mozart's. Anthony Burger definitely demonstrated an element of music that is important to keep in the minds of musicians. I also agree with the conversation!
I would agree about the sharing for the most part, the one thing I would change is this. I would share whether I am rewarded or not (of course I am not a good pianist at all yet) but all music whether piano or other is influenced by others styles. That is why when we talk about musicians we look at their influences. Everybody copies others.
I love Anthony's recollection of his three year old son playing Jesus in an Easter play. The little boy was in a tomb prop on stage and for the longest did not come out. Someone spoke and ask where was Jesus and the three year old said " here me am".
That was so cute how he played the various renditions, ha. Cute. Thank you ! -- Still looking for Burger's piano instrumental of "I've Just Seen Jesus" at youtube, and his Exodus instrumental.
At 2:46 he plays two bars of a classical song that I used to play. I want to find the music and learn it again, but I can’t remember the name. Does anyone know the name of the piece that those two measures are from?
@TheGospelGhost yeah, same here. I've been playing the piano by ear since i was 3. I've gotten pretty good, but nothing even close to Anthony. i dont think anyone will be able to play as good as him. I have a lot of his songs and videos, and you never he one mistake. What makes him different from other pianist, is that he gets so in to his music. Its almost no wonder he had heart problems.
Dear Anthony, Our special thanks to our big friend Joan (UA-cam ivoryticklermama) for sharing your amazing piano playing with us, we loved your performance very much, just great to listen to all these very different styles of your playing, Our compliments for all your efforts, 5***** Our best wishes to you all the time, Dearest greetings from Chris and Mayka - The Netherlands - Europe - UA-cam chrismayka
@PINOYdrifter719 Keep at it, you'll get it. start with the single note melody, add rhythm in the left hand by pressing random notes that correspond with the chord, add a harmony note in the right hand, add one or two moe notes in the right hand. and add one fill at a time.
I'm not sure exactly where you can get it. I have a dvd that was given to me. The complete video is called "sharing notes" by Keyed Up Productions. Google that and you should be able to find a site to buy the video from.

Playing with Angels now! What a blessing he was.👋
Simply put, the greatest piano player who ever lived. He could play any syle as good as any of the supposed "greats." Put Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky, etc in front of him and he could play it. Plus he had what all of those others didn't have. Life in and joy in his playing

@@jponz85 Perhaps. But from a Christian perspective, to me he's the greatest of all time

He is not normal......he is too good to be true He is the bomb he is so good that there are no words to describe how God blessed him.
I never knew him than watching him perform on the screen, the air around him was of simplicity and humility, I pray God will continue to keep his loved ones- we are so blessed each time to watch him play.

This man is TERRIFIC! I thought I knew how to play the piano but after listening to him I'm not so sure. I would NOW call myself an advanced amateur.

his so relaxed and makes it look easy but when you decide to try lol you fail . rest in piece =)

@TonyRush Look up Rain Tree Gospel piano series, the video is called Sharing Notes.
@TheGospelGhost he was incredible. And when he was little he burned both of his hands, the doctor said he would'nt even move them again.
Which video was this from? I would love to get it if it is still available.
