@@BostonSmitty To put it into perspective, I didn’t feel like other your groups were on top of us, but we didn’t get to see The Round Tops. We toured Culp’s Hill mostly and the Pennsylvania monument
I am a descendent of Irish slaves so I get it. Have you traced your family history yet? It was a pretty daunting task because family records had been burnt in fires. I know slavery is a touchy subject but it still needs to be taught in our schools. I would say we need to not repeat history but unfortunately there are still slaves here. Sad but true.
As always, Kris White did a great job . I suggest that you occasionally switch back and forth the box of Kris talking with a map showing your location on the battlefield.
I enjoy these driving tours of the battlefields. There is so much information thrown at you but you can go back over the video as many times you need to "digest" all the information. Btw, I have lived 15 miles away from the Gettysburg battlefield all my life, and have visited the National Park more times than I can remember. I didn't realize that the battlefield extended out that far. I learn so much more because of your videos. Thank you Kris and Garry.
17:22 I really enjoy these driving tours. The fact that you’re moving around really helps put the battlefields in perspective. That said, the possibility of a car accident is always somewhere in the back of my mind, making these videos a tad bit nerve wracking. PS - I think a helpful tool would be a periodic map display to show where you are. I find myself pulling up Google Maps a lot to see exactly where you are in town.
We have GPS maps that pop up on our two heavier produced driving tours. This one was done in a shorter amount of time for 160. Also, we would never post a video that included a car accident, so no need to be on edge 🙂
I enjoy the car tours as a way of showing the scale of the battle. We can see things on maps but seeing the 4 or 5 minutes to get to a place really helps bring home just how far apart things are.
I like the driving tours for a quick overview. I really enjoy the small less famous battles. Loved the videos on Carlisle, Wrightsville. The information on Hanover, Sporting Hill, ect. Keep up the good work, you all are amazing wealth of knowledge and entertaining.
On our 2nd trip to Gettysburg, we visited Barlow and East Cav field. Those spots rounded out our understanding of the battle. These "casual" drives are great. The 30-minute length is perfect, BTW.
Keep up with both walking and driving battlefield episodes, both offer a unique experience. One being more focused and in depth with the other covering more area and giving a general exposure to the area!
Always a pleasure listening to Gary and Kris and this format adds to the other excellent videos you guys do. I’m from the U.K and have been interested in reading about the period for over 30 years and I was blown away with how your battlefield’s are preserved after visiting many of the Eastern battle sites. Thank you for all that you do from someone across the pond.
Same here from The UK son and I was in Gettysburg for one week in October last year and one of my aims was to to go and visit East Cavalry Field , still didn’t see everything in that week
Have you been any were else we have done tours with Ledger in both Eastern and Western Battlefields although but you are always on the go and not much time in each location.
@@trevornewman2147 yes, we’ve been to both Bull Run battles, Fredericksburg, Antietam and many battlefield throughout the Shenandoah valley (really liked Winchester and Harpers Ferry). We’ve not done Ledger for our U.S trips as we planed our own, although we have used Ledger for some European tours.
My wife and I had our honeymoon in Gettysburg in 1995. We went out to east cavalry field and mr. Hoffman who owned the Rummel farm then came out to us and took us into the barn and showed us the shell and bullet holes, then took us into his house and showed us other artifacts he found while farming. It was an incredible opportunity he gave us! My wife and I will never forget it and we feel truly blessed.
As usual, your team does a great job! You asked for feedback. I like the walking tour videos better than the driving tours. The best videos are not produced in a rush, but take time for plenty of post production, with plenty of maps (this one has a few good maps), some period photos (this has a few), edit out pauses and tech glitches. You have fantastic maps! Use more of them! Often your team does live streaming on the exact anniversary. I usually don’t watch these. By all means, film it on the anniversary (so the foliage is appropriate) and take weeks or months for post-production as described above, before posting. It’s been 160 years, what’s a few more months going to matter? If you could put a compass heading at the top of the screen, that would be awesome. Thanks again for the educational and accurate videos! Keep up the good work.
These battlefield tours are truly amazing and wonderful. Thank you Gary and Chris for sharing your knowledge of the battlefield! God bless you both 🙏 ❤️
Garry....love your video tours. The Gettysburg video tour you did previously was awesome, and this one is no exception. You and Kris did a great job on this one. Love being able to see my favorite spots even when I can't be there in person. Keep 'em coming, guys.....very much appreciated.
I love it!...Please do more. Going to remembrance day in November, so the more I learn about the battle the better, and I always learn the most from the ABT videos...All the best...Tim H..
Garry and Chris, This is the next best thing to having a personal guided tour!!! It's so Ironic that ya'll stopped at the Plaque of my Gr-GR-Grandpa (on my mother's side of the family) fought against Gen. Custer. He was in the 2nd Appomattox Calvary Raiders, He was under Gen. Fitzhugh Lee and survived that battle. His family farm was right behind the Mclean house in Appomattox and is buried there too. I found this marker late in the evening just by chance and mapped in from where you'll stopped at and went there after visiting my other Gr-Gr-Grandpa's Monument on my Daddy's side at The Peach Orchard of The 7th New Jersey Vol.!!! Many thanks too you and Chris for a very well explained tour and look forward to more!!!. Thanks will never be enough for the devotion and the sincerity and the Love you and the other great historians that travels and speaks on the video's will burn into my memories forever.⚜
Yes, really like these and they not only teach but inspire me to crack open a book and get further in depth. Would love to see a video following the route of the old Stonewall Brigade and the spot across Rock Creek where Company D, 2nd VA Inf was sent. It’s always eluded me. Thanks Chris, Gary and ABT!
I really, REALLY LOVE these driving battle field tours. Helps to gain the big picture Tiny suggestion occasionally show where on a map the car is. I tended to get lost as to where you were traveling!More car tours please! ❤️ Thanks uk
Great way to help explore the battlefield. Before my visit of last week i used you’re previous cartrips to get acquinted with the surroundings. Very useful. I'm sure many visitors took the same roads and will recognize the scenes. Keep up the great work!😊
These videos are superb! I have read some of the books, looked at the maps, and even driven around some of the battlefields. It is incredibly frustrating to not know what it is that I am seeing through the windshield, especially because I am driving safely. These videos put it all together!
I wouldn't be surprised if the michigan calvary were supplied with horses from my hometown! My hometown also sent an artillery battery raised and paid for by one man, named Loomis, Cyrus I think ! The guy that raised horses has a road named after him ! His house still stands for now ! Ever since they started developing that end of town the city has been desperately trying to get rid of the house! The is beautiful ornately decorated, 2 story italian eight style! 12' ceilings in it ! A beautiful staircase! It was an expensive coffee house up until 2020! It never reopened !
I like this idea. Most visitors who visit battlefields do the driving tour. Some battlefields, even the first ones, were laid out with that in mind. So doing an ABT windshield tour is a valuable approach. I’ve wondered about the pronunciation of Mumma. I wonder because I grew up with a descendant of the Mumma family whose family farm is part of the Antietam battlefield. He and his family pronounce the name Moo mah, not Muh muh. There are a lot of family names that are pronounced differently for reasons that are lost to history. One of those reasons is that people didn’t ask the family or the family moved and weren’t there to ask. I don’t know what the Pennsylvania Mummas did, but the descendants of the Maryland Mummas I knew pronounced it as I described.
Great tour! The only thing that would make it better is if there is some way to show a split screen of your car moving on GPS. That way we would always have a clear picture of where you're at. I've yet to go to the battlefield, so I quickly get confused about where you are. Either way, great job!
The car tours are fun, even if I can get out to a battlefield, to see it the way an expert does in enlightening...can't believe it's already been 3 months since the 160th. I was there and had an absolute blast.
I am enjoying all of your videos. This format helps us familiarize ourselves with the area. We are getting excited about our trip to Gettysburg next spring
I really do love these car tours! I always learn something new and make sure to hit the spots I haven't been to. Will be there next weekend and will def hit up East Cavalry Field! Keep them up! Thanks!
Love these drives to give a different perspective. Enjoy seeing the city too. With a map as you progress in the inset so I can follow along on my own map. Thanks for all you do!😊
Next year, more of East Cavalry Fields please! I’m a Brit who has visited Gettysburg four times over the years including West Cav, but never got to this location ❤

I am fascinated by the Civil War, really don't know why, but I love how you bring the Civil Ear battles to life. You really made my day...Thanks So Much. Warren Armour
These talks are so immersive, the drive is a great way to give a ground-level perspective of the battlefield. I still struggle to understand how those cannon can be effective from that distance! Just a thought: is it possible to include a small map screen and a moving icon to show the car in relation to the battlefield? Great work, yet again, guys. Regards, from the UK.
Enjoyed the tour, great job by Garry and Kris. I'll add a thumbs up for the licensed battlefield guides who've explained the East Cavalry Field and site of Farnsworth's Charge to me in the past. Hard to beat walking the ground with someone who's been there before and can explain it! Every time I've been to Barlow's Knoll and looked over to Oak Hill and seen those dominating Confederate batteries I've had to ask "General Barlow, what were you thinking?" Now after Garry's explanation of how it may have seemed like a good idea to Barlow I'll at least take another look next time I get out that way, hopefully in a couple of montha.
I definitely dig the format. It helps me orient where ya'll are pretty well since I generally am driving the battlefied when I visit since I have family that's not the most mobile.

I was there with my kids on July 1st, 2023. Absolutely awe inspiring and reinvigorated my love for my country, even though I'm Black.
