    🇺🇸 There are a lot of misconceptions and misinformation about the United States exit tax. Even CPAs are sometimes wrong about what it really costs to leave the USA. But same is true about other cost of living expenses, we pay the highest electricity price in Europe and 21% VAT on top of that. The shitty public transport system is the most expensive of Europe and there are lots of outages. Owning a car is freakishly expensive and not an option for many people. Only if you have a three times modal income can you live a reasonable life but you have to be a civil servant or politician for that as there are not much ways to advance in the corporate world (they also hire politicians for all the top jobs) and setting up your own business is only feasible if you have lots of money. Of course the truly rich don't get taxed as much as middle class people. And it is these salon socialists who come up with all those plans to make life even more expensive such as the European green new deal and the energy transition. Did you know that the Netherlands has the largest gas field of Europe but they poured concrete in it to make drilling impossible so the people have to buy expensive shale gas from the US (as they also cut down on Russian gas and got Ukraine to cut off the spigot and blow up North Stream 2). You can't even go off the grid because there is no place out of the watchful eye of the state. And now they try to keep the people inside the country like a huge open air prison.

      "It is prohibited to use the road as a sleeping place or to use a vehicle, vessel, caravan, tent or other shelter on or near the road or public water as a sleeping place, to spend the night in it or to provide the opportunity to do so."
      There has been lots of news stories how insanely stupid this law is. For example, a truck driver who stopped at a legit truck stop to spend the night because the law regulates how much he can drive each day and, well... because he is human he needs to sleep, this guy woke up the following morning with a ticket on the windshield.

However, we have the preference of speaking the Dutch language day-to-day, and there aren’t that many countries in the world where Dutch is the native language. The countries that do have Dutch as a first language have a worse environment than The Netherlands itself, so basically The Netherlands is our only option for language preference.

    If this new exit tax is not condoned by the treaty, it should have no material effect on the taxation of the person.

Also, there's a huge irony with this new bill as NL has long had a "30% tax ruling" for new expats and a new company 10 year tax exemption, both of which favor international companies to set up in NL, funnel overseas profits through it and therefore favor NL unfairly over other countries as a tax haven and non-NL employees over their own nationals similar to H1-B!

    Dutch person here. You are misleading like other YT channels. Alll the speculations about a potential 5-year tax obligation, also know for exit tax, have not been translated into legislation. Implementing such rules would require significant changes for the Dutch government.
    Countries like Belgium and Germany, where many Dutch businesses and cross-border workers are active, may be forced to reevaluate their fiscal policies in response. Such changes could negatively affect economic cooperation in border regions. Additionally, these countries could invoke EU regulations to protect the free movement of people and capital or even introduce countermeasures, such as modifying tax incentives or tightening their own emigration rules.
    However, this may be less about creating enforceable legislation and more about deterring entrepreneurs from leaving. The Dutch government appears to recognize that an increasing number of small business owners are considering leaving the country due to the fiscal and political climate. By floating these kinds of measures, the government may aim to instill fear and discourage businesses from relocating abroad.
    The risk, is that this strategy could backfire. It may increase tensions in cross-border cooperation and further weaken the Netherlands’ competitive position. It’s crucial to consider the broader international implications and economic relationships before pursuing such measures.

  • @No14210
    @No14210 13 годин тому +1

    This is not something that's imminent now. They voted for a motion calling on the government to "investigate the possibilities". What this means in the Netherlands (and I guess anywhere) is that it's going to take years. The motion was brought in by opposition parties, although some government parties also voted for it. But the government is currently a coalition of 4 parties that will not agree on it any time soon.
    I do think this is coming in the future, just because of how (Western) Europe is circling the drain and how the politician's reflex is to act like an abusive spouse. Look at how they are already trying to problematise the mere fact that people are leaving NL.
    Now most people normally wouldn't see this as a problem, but look how quickly that changed during the latest flu outbreak. Along with many other things, the government tapped into the anger and envy of ordinary people that some people could independently travel to places without as many restrictions, and this created huge popular support, because everyone should be equally miserable according to the mindset that a lot of Northern European people subscribe to.

  • @MartialHeroesPwnz
    @MartialHeroesPwnz День тому +3

    Every developed country in the world has an exit tax. It's normal to expect someone to pay taxes over the profits and gains that have grown while they were in the Netherlands. In general, you get 10 years time to pay the exit tax. There are loopholes through which people can avoid this tax claim, like using the capital gains article in tax treaties which usually gives the entire right to tax to the country of residence.
    The motion of the Tweede Kamer to combat tax avoidance by emigration of wealthy Dutch nationals to low tax jurisdictions is completely justified, not just legally but morally, because this will only take effect against cases where a tax treaty will not apply. The Netherlands has a tax treaty to avoid double taxation with over 100 countries. The proposed measure is only against the very few cases that the wealthy abuse to avoid paying their fair share (percentage wise, they barely pay anything even now). If you're against paying your fair share of tax, the Netherlands will tax you, and you can't complain to your new low tax country because they will not have a tax treaty against double taxation.
    Aggressive tax planning is getting broken down further every year thanks to the developments in the OECD like the Anti Tax Avoidance Directives, Pillar 1 & 2. Compare the current tax climate to just 10 years ago and you see everything changed. Eventually the wealthy tax abusers won't have anywhere to hide.

      Nah, only collapsing ones like Netherlands and Germany do. Most countries, and even most European countries don't. What is their "fair share" by the way? 36% on unrealized "gains"? Imagine a person has a company worth 10 million on paper, they have to pay 3.6 million in cash, which they probably don't have. The whole point of taxation is to fund for public services, when you move outside of the country, you don't benefit from those anymore. This seems to me more like slaves trying to buy their freedom than taxation.
      And how is the government going to enforce this anyway? Most countries won't collect taxes on behalf of the Dutch government, it's not like The Netherlands can exert diplomatic pressure on most countries like the USA.

      @@MartialHeroesPwnz Eventually, high tax countries will face massive problems, because whatever amount of tax they take, their core problem will not change: excessive government spending. Wealth is created elsewhere, because nobody with a clear mind will work on his business ideas in a place, that only taxes, taxes and taxes. This is one of the reasons, why Europe is lagging behind when it comes to Tech companies and start-ups. If all you have are taxes, intelligent entrepreneurs will choose other places.

    Unfortunately, we are unable to obtain 2nd passports without losing our Dutch one, as native born Dutch citizens, which wouldn’t be an issue but in most cases it means losing access to the European single market.
    Though I am seriously considering moving to Switzerland, in order to potentially decrease my tax burden as I am currently paying around 45% on my income and investments
    And there is already talk about extending this exit tax to everyone additionally the plan is to also have you pay 5 years after your exit to to at least the Dutch tax rate, which means that if you move to a country with lower taxes you will have to pay the difference to the Dutch government as well

    I want to make a few points that rarely ever get highlighted, for starters The Netherlands has had Washington wispear in her ear about going after and attacking the Rich and wealthy.Because for some reason the wealthy has entrenched the western countries while creating massive gaps in income or was that because of reckless government currency printing that is being recycled back to the same central banks who issues it out.The second point is this is what happens when you don't continue to improve your infrastructure, education system,healthcare system and public transportation I know we all can agree on this there is far more wrong with these western countries besides the high taxes.The third point is simply this, they can attack and go after the wealthy all they want to but if there not improving the middle class, low income class then what good will it do.ultimately what this is really showing is that western countries only want there countries filled with nothing but slave wage people People who work hard long hours,many days and just barely getting by because since the 20th century they haven't done anything to support entrepreneurs,small businesses,freelancers and independent contractors.The other thing I am noticing is the lengths they are going to keep Amazon,Walmart,Target, Apple, Microsoft, Goodman Sachs,J.P Morgan chase relevant will be the death of western countries.I have said this before the corporations are the problem not the wealthy because the wealthy people of today are entirely different than someone like a warren buffet.The wealthy people of today created there own value and raised themselves out of poverty without the need of government loans,bonds, government credit,and most importantly without these corporations and these western country governments don't like that at all.That my friends is the real reason why there going after the wealthy people.
