Glad to hear, i brought the extended warranty for the first time on my 2020 CVO. My wife and i are riding from our house in Ohio to Sturgis later this month just to see all SD has to offer. Have really enjoyed all the great insights on the Black Hills.

Harley's warranty on newer bikes (2018 and up) is just crazy. If you do anything to the bike ( unless the dealer does it) the warranty is void.

Took over the payments on a 2008 Roadglide in 2010 with 8,000 miles.I had two extended warranties one for four years the other 5 years. In 2019 I sold the bike with 136,000 miles when I was a refused a third extended warranty.9 years of extended warranties got me new motors transmissions 5 stereos ect ect ect.I can guarantee Harley Davidson did not make a dime off me.Service manager told me extended warranties were not designed for how me and some of my Brothers ride cuz the dealership makes no money.1,000 mile days were normal.Did Sturgis home to Tacoma several times in about 18-20 hours straight through due to lack of vacation.Me?Nothing like bombing down the highway 80 plus Ipod blasting my favorite tunes flying my patch stacking miles and Representing.Thats where a warranty pays off.Thats where the joy is.Medicine for PTSD and Bi Polarism

I agree. Peace of mind is worth a lot in my book. Kinda like having AAA. It gives you a sense of security knowing you have help at your fingertips.

18 geezer couch, bought at dealer in July 19 with 14k miles, bought extended warranty. 1) Front fork seal leak, replaced seals. About 850$ in labor alone.) Tour pack top tether broke, destroyed the bottom half of the tub. Both were replaced due to factory defective tether. 3 hours labor and 575$ color matched tub. Currently 37500 miles (fkin covid/ only Sturgis rally last year). Peace of mind, PRICELESS.

I bought the Harley extended warranty, 2 year maintenance plan AND 2 year tire/rim warranty when I bought my ‘16 RK last year. The dealer just replaced my rear tire for the second time since I bought the bike in August. Plan already paid for itself. Same with Maintanence plan. In 9 months, I’ve already done 17000 miles, so I’ll get my $ from that plan too. The Harley extended warrantee means no matter where I am, any dealer will honor the plan. Peace of mind for sure.

I have been fortunate enough to have a buddy who happens to be an H-D mechanic. I have also had experience with warranty and the apprentice who worked on my bike. In my experience, warranty reserves an argument in the future where the motor company or dealership protests or argues the repair. For those it works for cudos but I buy the bike and do the maintenance and upgrades between myself and my wrench.
I should mention the two times I took my bike in for recalls it was a poor experience at my dealership including them pressure washing my bike spraying off the silicone on my wrapped pipes and causing condensation in my gauges. Ride on!

I couldn't wait for my warranty to expire. I always felt like I was obligated to take it in for problems, and everytime I did, they either "fixed" something other than what I brought it in for and not the problem, or they'd say they couldn't find anything wrong. As soon as the warranty ran out, I felt relief, and fixed it myself. It's bad, when I have it at 6 different dealers for the same problem, and all of them can't fix it, and I fix it myself in 30 minutes. Sure, I had to buy the parts, but at least I know it's fixed and fixed right.

Amen my man. Bought a 2 year warranty from my dealer for my 2013 Night Rod (2nd bike) for $1000 a year. As you said,, for piece of mind, as it's a whole different game on that bike. One year has passed, no issues. Another year to go, and no worries.

I'm going to be buying my 3rd Harley, as soon as it comes in to the dealer! I've bought the warranty on my last 2 and will be buying the warranty for the new one too! It's a nice security blanket because if something breaks it will sit in the driveway until I can save up to fix it. Love the channel!

I add the extended warranty. Last time I had to use one was for a blown head gasket on a 2011 CVO Ultra in 2016, paid for itself right there. When I went to pick up the bike after it was fixed I got talked into trading for a 2016 Ultra. That was an interesting conversation with the wife, Honey, I accidently bought a new motorcycle.

You are so right it's not if you use it, it's there if you need it and with as much crap they are putting on bikes and autos nowadays if your knowingly going to drive it past the manufactures warranty you are just betting against your self anymore to each his own I say I know some people are great at the black jack table but that only last for so long just like anything mechanical or running on a computer. Keep the rubber side down

This new "Forever warranty" is good for touring bikes, especially if the rider actually (gasp!!!!) TOURS.
If you're on a Sportster, or Softail, where customizing is probably more the focus, screw the warranty. Buy used. A teardrop, and straight pipes, will void you anyway.

I have a 2010 Ultra Limited, right now it has 94K+ on the odo and the ext. warranty runs out this Sept and HD won't renew, I'm glad that I've had the ext. warr. for all these years cause it's covered 1- radio, 3 compensators, 1-stator & voltage regulator, wheel bearing front & rear and I think I come out about even or just a little ahead. I bought this bike to ride and never owned a HD until this one so I really had no idea on what to expect so buying the warranty has worked for me. I wished my dealer had the service deal like you've got... BTW keep up the great job on the vids!!!!!

I am glad for the warranty I have. When I bought my 2017 SGS they gave me a 3 year warranty. I was called before the 3 years was up and the manager was offering me a new 2 year warranty for about $2500. I told him no and he told me for the same price he would give me another year to make it 3 years for the 2 year price. I first told him no and then an hour later I called him back and took the 3 year for the $2500 price. My bike has used more than the price of the warranty. Can't go wrong.

I believe in the warranty. When I bought my 2021 Indian Chieftain DK. I opted for the best warranty. AND their wheel and tire warranty. To the best of my knowledge, they didn't offer a maintenance package. Or I would have bought that as well. TBH, I didn't know those existed. Then, I found out that my brother has a warranty monthly plan he pays for with his certified HD RoadGlide that offers quite a bit. And he is now thinking about a maintenance plan. Because he rides just enough to make it worth it. Someone else turned the wrenches. Which is alway best. Oh, and I realized that I abhor hot temperature riding. Always have. Which is most of the year in So.California. SO, I paid the dealer for nothing. Most likely. Then again, I don't wrench on the bike. Ever. It's all documented dealership work. And I came from a 1997 FatBoy that broke ALL THE TIME. To the point that I replaced literally 80% of the bike. Or more, Parts and labor was an easy $20k. Never again. Buy new. The best you can afford. By the best warranty and service plans you can afford. Buy the best and most comprehensive insurance you can afford. All of it. Or, you may be the unlucky one that pays and pays and pays and pays. Like it did. For 8 years. Just my biased opinion.

Harleys esp (extended service plan) covers hotels if you break down in another city or state they also cover your car rental if loaner bikes are not available. If anything breaks it’s a $50 deductible. Beats paying an arm and a leg for repairs if you ask me.

I purchased an aftermarket warranty that basically mirrors Harley’s warranty, but for 5 years. Only because I was going to mod my bike to the point of harley voiding my power train warranty. You know, a decent tuner, cam, ect ect.

  • @jerrybrown66

I purchased an '09 RG new without an extended warranty. In the 10th year of ownership, I had problems with the compensator (which H-D had redesigned several times since), the electrical system (bad rectifier) and a noisy bearing race, along with throttle body connector problems (for which H-D issued a service bulletin). Fixing all that equaled what I would have paid for extended warranties. I did all the repairs and sold it for what I wanted, so it was a wash. I purchased my 2019 Roadglide new and added the maximum extended warranty I could afford because of all the electronic stuff. Time will tell if it was worth it.

I do a few thousand miles a year, maintenance plans don't pan out for me. I bought my bike used and took the dealerships 1 year extended warranty because I didn't know how the previous owner treated it, worked out fine for me no issues, but like you said, peace of mind.
Spent the better part of a decade as a dealer mechanic, only extended warranty to buy is factory, its tied to your vin and goes through same approval as standard warranty. Too many horror stories on the aftermarket ones for me to ever recommend them

I just bought a new '21 on Saturday. Decided against it this time, or at least this point of time. I may look at doing it before the 2 years is up. On my '16 CVO RGU, I bought it for piece of mind and never used it. It also had Harley's name on it, but I found out after signing it, it was dealer specific, just marketed as Harley so you'd buy it. However, that dealership is no longer in existance.

I am an extended warranty guy. I don't have an extra multiple thousand dollars if something goes wrong. I'd rather pay a few extra bucks a month on my loan to know that I can get stuff fixed if need be and not have to worry about leaving my bike sit for 3 months while I make payments and save up the dough to fix an issue.

I like that my 2021 FXLRS came with a 5 year warranty. My 2014 Street Glide only came with a 2 year warranty. I meant to get the extended Warranty, but I ended up trading it in (fully paid off, I paid right around $25,000 Canadian for it new and the company I bought my tractor (2017 TYM-T394 with cab, front-end loader and snowblower) from gave me $24,000 as trade-in value. So, I basically rode that bike for free for the time I had it. My Low Rider S is at the dealership today getting all the extras added to it so they’re all covered under warranty. So far, I’ve got the forward controls and swing arm bag added. When it comes back this time, it will be complete until my FXRT build. Today, Screamin’ Eagle slip-ons w/ tuner, cruise control, Kahuna collection heated hand grips, 5 1/2” risers (using stock handlebars) and BMX-style foot pegs. I could add all this stuff myself, but when it’s all covered by warranty, it’s even better than the satisfaction I would get from installing them here at home.

I got a great deal on my 2013 FLHTK. 7-year Harley warranty unlimited mileage $50 deductible. Got my money back plus on that investment. I'm killing it on the maintenance plan. 10-year unlimited mileage for $2000 for every 5,000 miles. My motorcycle is currently at the dealer getting my 130,000-mile service. Redline Synthetic in all three holes is offered if you ask at no extra cost. This is my 27th service and I'm covered until April 2023. If all goes as planned I will have between 160,000 and 170,000 miles at the end of ten years. That will be an average cost of $50 per service. They also wash the bike and provide a loaner if requested.

I did purchase my 2018 CVO the ESP because the new M8 only had been in production for a little over a year and and I don’t want to spend the money or time if something goes wrong….and as you know it’s had an issue or two …….for me it has worked out just fine and has already paid for itself 2 times over. I put a lot of miles on my bike so it’s peace of mind….I started purchasing extended warranty from the manufacturer as well for my new cars as well…..too many electronics ….and repair would bankrupt me…..paying 2K one time is much easier than paying 2-5K every time something goes wrong…..

Yes I brought the extended warranty. I went to bike week this year when I return back to port st Lucie, I had oil on the left side of my bike. I did the garage yoga and determine it was coming from the head gasket. The head gasket some how had slip into the cyl head and took out the cyl, the head and the piston. Oh it's a 17 ultra. 28000 miles. Still waiting on parts but it's covered. Well worth it to me.

Your maintenance plan made sense $1500 for 2 years work as you ride. The extended warranty is insurance but what strings came with it do you need to have the bike maintained by a HD dealership? I would do the maintenance package but the extended warranty most probably not I have never had any Harley go wrong in a big way to make it worth it warped brake discs is about the only thing that has gone wrong . I have possibly been lucky and as you said if a gearbox goes it quickly becomes the cheaper option.

Here in California, if you put anything on your bike that is not "Harley" ((ie.. stage 1) you void your 2 year warranty. I know you run alot of Harley stuff, but I like Vance and Hines, Dynojet and Arlin Ness. So I have to 🤞and hope nothing goes wrong.

I said Bull Crap you will. you guys told me, " if I had my bike serviced here, you would back up all the changes". they thru a shit motor together, was a pile of crap! warranty expires 2012, 2021,I put a whole 5,000 miles on it by then. hated the bike. took it too a independent 8,500 later I have a new motor. bored, stroked, geared 575's, S&S balanced crank, timkein bearings, valve springs, ported, new injectors, S&S oil pump, new throttle body. forged pistons. motor sounds like a fine watch😋🤪😜🤯😘.

I have always been lucky not buying extended warranties. However if I did buy a new Harley I would definitely consider it. I always buy them used so I basically have no warranty. I love the bikes but they have some serious flaws. Ie crank runout and such. So if I did go new I would probably get the extended warranty. Definitely would on any modern diesel truck these days too.

I got a screaming deal on the full package, and don't plan on getting rid of the bike in the 5 years that warranty will be active, so I'm covered if and when it breaks(cuz let's be honest, its a harley and I'd rather not pay harley prices to fix it)

On this latest bike 2019 UL I bought a one maintenance plan and it paid for it self. It was like $5 or 600 for the one year. I went back to try and get another year and I didn't get it because it would have cost more than the actual cost. As far as warranties, I don't work on my bike, so I bought a 2 year extended one when I bought the bike. I figured I'd be trading it in by then anyway, so there was no use getting a longer one.

I bought a 5 year extended when I bought the bike and the thing I didn't catch was the fact that the warranties ran consecutive and I got screwed out of 2 years on my extended warranty!

Bought a used 2008 Street Glide and got the extended service plan. It was good for 1 year, and I hadn't had any problems. Took it in for cams, cam chest with oil pump kit, and dyno session (also winter storage because Wisconsin). For the dyno they inspected and found compensator, clutch basket, trans door bearings and a brake caliper leaking. Total cost would have been $1800, ESP covered and only cost $50. I am glad I got it.

Not belittling extended warranty but for me the Harley warranty doesn't make sense. I live out in the country and all 4 dealers I could use are a 3 hour drive one way whereas I have some good local indy's that can look after anything over my skill level. By the way I really enjoy your vids keep them coming.

Thanks for the great content as always! If it's expensive and repairs could be expensive as in a car or a motorcycle or other high end toys like my DJI drone collection, extended warranties make a lot of sense. The exceptions are appliances like TV's, Microwaves or stuff like that as I can usually afford to buy them and they probably need to be upgraded anyway! I ride a lot and often as my car sits for months but I service all my vehicles myself as I am a mechanic by trade so service contracts don't make sense to me as I care for my vehicles way better than the dealership will with their rushed flat rate service. Ride safe🇺🇸

Better to buy it up front than pay for it down the road. Warranty is the easiest way for major mechanical to be covered with minimal fuss and minimal down time.

10/31/2019 I bought the extended service plan, which covers all my maintenance, oil changes etc. for 5 years or (get this now) 20,000 miles. Right now I have just under 12k miles on my 2020 TriGlide so it looks as though my extended service plan will expire long before the 5 years is up. grr!
A 5 year ESP is a good thing but a 20,000 mile limit...not so good! ride safe.

I don't look at the warranty side.... I look at the insurance side..... meaning if you broke a leg at work, or what ever and couldn't work to make payments on the ride,.... The Insurance covers it for X amount of months or Pays-off the loan.
    That's important....
BTW.... get out of the shade..... Skeeters love the shade.... they know Anamules like us, seek shade on hot days... ;)

I rolled the dice and didn't get any service or extended warranty on my 21 RG. I bought the HD service manual don't mind doing the maintenance. I have done all the maintenance and repairs on my Kawasaki Vulcans and did the 1000 mile service myself on the Road Glide. I keep a log and photocopies of all the receipts. I damn near take a picture of the bike with a newspaper like it was a hostage to prove the date I did service so HD does not try and screw with my warranty. LOL

i Admit i am Bias i was a certified Harley-Davidson Warranty Manager, and in my opinion Harley has the BEST Warranty in the Industry and the Extended Service (warranty) from Harley is also the BEST in the Industry, the Maintenance Plans are a Dealer option and Not part of the Motor Co. so they vary from dealer to dealer. But People must Know the Harley Warranties are a Limited Warranty and there is some Fine Print, Some are silly things like condensation in your speedo is NOT COVERED, if you Buy a Huge Flag Mount or Trailer Hitch parts of your bikes Warranty will be Voided, the M8's under the 15 Million dollar Fine Agreement if you use any NON-HD Screamin Eagle products or any Race Application only products (as Deemed by Harley), your powertrain warranty can be voided, YES you may find some dealers who will work with you and work around the Motor Company, but if you travel don't count on it, and if your bike at anytime is connected to the HD Digital Tech and you have Aftermarket parts and the computer can pick them up.......your bike WILL be FLAGGED !! just a heads up because there is a lot of confusion out there.

Love. Having warranty but Certain things will void your warranty like changing head pipes. I paid for the extended warranty even had them put complete exhaust on they never said that the head pipe would void my warranty. Took it back for 1,000 mile service and they told me my warranty was voided cuz of my Reinhardt head pipe

Ive bought the warranty on my used cars, trucks. I think of it like my health insurance policy. I dont really want to use it but its worth every penny when its needed. Ive never bought a brand new bike but I would get the warranty. I can see getting a maintenance policy if the price was right. I went to my local HD dealer to get belt work done on my road king because I didnt have the tools or a lift to do the job right. $570 dollars later. I brought them the parts all labor.

Extended warranties are money makers for the MoCo and dealers. That's just a fact.
They are priced based on risk. The majority of people who buy them never need them. A small group actually recover the cost in claims.
That's how insurance works. It's not a secret.
Now if having that warranty gives you some extra piece of mind and that's important to you then go for it.
Please haggle on the price though. It kills me when people pay whatever the dealer asks for these things. They're totally negotiable.

Ah I see you are feeding into the lies places like yours tells people. An aftermarket part can never void your warranty. If the aftermarket part is the issue then it wouldn’t be covered but it can’t void it. Warranty law will explain this to you. The only issue is if you decide to sue the manufactures pockets are way deeper than yours and will keep you paying for a lawyer that is way over the cost of said issue with your vehicle. That is where they get ya

i think whether or not you turn your own wrenches comes into play on this topic. unless the frame breaks or the engine / transmission grenades then my bike never sees the inside of a dealership again. some people don’t want to or can’t remedy mechanical issues so they should consider service and extended warranties.

The only down fall on warranty is if you the type to tear your bike down and do upgrades like cams, tuner etc then it’s a waste do to it being voided well that’s what I’m told unless it’s a Harley-Davidson product

I only buy extended warranties from the original manufacturer. I’ve been burned from off brand extended warranty companies and learned an expensive lesson. The problem is that you can buy some off branded extended warranty and they say “you can take your vehicle anywhere to get it fixed with this warranty “ , the problem is that the particular shop you go to most likely 99.9 % of the time will not want to deal with that warranty company and they will want to be paid immediately by you, after the vehicle is repaired, by the owner of the vehicle, and then you have to fight to get reimbursed from the Warranty Company. Screw that. Then most of the time the warranty company will only partially reimburse you for the repair you paid for. It turns into a real cluster f**k. Ask me how I know. Lol.

My dad just spent 5k on his 2020 road glide with 8500 miles on it and a warranty because it started sumping, lost power, and locked up. Metal shavings in the oil clogging up the oil pump. In the end it needed a new oil pump, new cam, new lifters, new pushrods, new cylinders, and new pistons. $5k on a warrantied bike to get the factory defective motor repaired and running again. Questionable at that point as to what the warranty actually covers!
