In Norway, one's income (i.e., the contents of their equivalent of a 1040) is public information. This policy was adopted in the 19th century when an impoverished Norway was trying to persuade European banks to loan the country money. (Please note: This has policy has nothing to do with left-wing politics.) Norwegians are entirely comfortable with this policy; they do not see it as an invasion of privacy. Every country should adopt this policy. Transparency in financial matters would reveal all sorts of criminal behaviors (including the corruption of politicians). It would also pull the rug out from under compulsive liars like Trump.

He obviously has the liquidity to be/live quite rich in practical terms though, especially now that he has also tapped into the federal money coffers. His tax returns are also prepared by CPAs that probably ensure them to be at least superficially legit. What they may show though is *how he was able to maintain his liquidity*, even though his failures and bad credit rating cut him off from the conventional lending market. And I bet that that will turn out not to be a good story for him.

It would reveal (taxes) Trump is exempt of personal taxes from his 2005 whooper of a bankruptcy.
