The ships have travelled at least 100,000 lightyears in 2 years, or 50,000+ times the speed of light. Now that they're finally here they're creeping up like snails. During the io bunker Zavala dialog, they would've been able to cross the entire solar system pretty much instantly.
Unless what ever faster than light travel they have does not work within short distances. Thus, they arrived at the edge of the system and have little choice but to rely on what ever normally propels their craft forward to get to the Earth and the Traveler. Like, potentially them triggering what ever they have for faster than light travel could make them greatly overshoot their target if they were to use it right now.
I like to imagine the ships are taking it slow because they know humanity is ready for them, so they don't wanna rush in head first and get creamed. Or maybe because they know Rasputin is geared up like crazy right now and could probably blow up the sun.
