I was going to boast that I got through the whole reaction in one sitting, but that’s not quite as impressive as what you got done here, especially since I had seen all the videos already. My favorite reply is, "OK, what *IS* Kpop? How do you define it in an objective, non-circular way?" That doesn't end the argument, of course, because humans refuse to concede a debate. But hopefully it makes some critics examine their biases.
Perfect opening question if we are to debate what is to be considered K-Pop. IMO, I personally define K-Pop as Korean pop music which (I believe) needs to include the Korean language in its lyrics. I have XG as being K-Pop adjacent, as they are in the Korean idol system for their promotions.
@Gon22 So if a Korean pop star recorded a song all in English, in Korea, in a studio in Seoul, under a Korean label, whose lyrics recount a Korean folk tale, that would still only be "Kpop adjacent" because it lacks Korean-language lyrics?
I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just attempting to demonstrate that questions of culture call for acceptance of lots of ambiguity (and generosity).
