    Interesting bow. I just did my first lesson yesterday and went really well. I plan on shooting many types of bows, even though i typically like recurve, but why not try out different bows and methods..

    What do you think about vegh bow? Is it okay for beginners?

    I’ve always wondered why horsebows and bows like this have such a longer draw. Why does draw length change depending on the type of bow?

      The bow doesn't really determine the draw length. You can short-draw these bows, and Ottoman texts do describe closer facial anchor points. Historical styles (including Chinese and English longbow) have longer draws and use the feeling of the shoulders for alignment, whereas modern shooters use a facial reference point for consistency.

    This traditional bow form with a forward lean and bow arm up is actually a more autotomy correct way to shoot a bow than Olympic Archery. Why not shoot an Olympic bow with a traditional form? Im sure the sights could be adjusted.

      The forward lean is not anatomically correct. Each style and technique is adapted to best suit the purpose. The forward lean is intended to be used with very heavy draw weights - above 70lbs to over 100lbs, as it uses the entire body to push into the bow. This was necessary for military applications. The upright stance used in modern target archery is the most stable and requires the least effort, which makes it more suitable for precision shooting. It isn't necessary to use a forward lean because the bows used for target shooting are light.

    I dont think goa ying would approve of you collapsing on release!!!

    Your technique is a bit strange that you draw long then collapse an inch or two just to have a high anchor. I think old traditional archers would use all the energy the bow could provide since any little bit extra penetration would make a difference in the battlefield… like causing the enemy to get an infection.

      You have to remember that archery then, as in now, was not purely about war or hunting. Archery was also a sport. In Ottoman examples, it wasn't unusual to draw relatively short and use facial reference points like modern archers do today, where accuracy is more important than power. I use a method that gets my arrow onto the target, which is my goal. Not every historical style drew as long as possible, and heavier bows were used for military purposes, not overdrawing light ones.

      @guilhermevieira4353 8 місяців тому +1

      Yes, some of the energy of the draw and back tension are wasted since you advance to look for your confortable anchor. Because you can manage the weight of the bow, you still finish the shot fairly easy.
      I owned and sold the same vegh bow at 33 lbs. Because I was just beginning my thumb release journey, I thought that I had to pull as far back as possible and max out the bow. Which meant I had to deal with terrible stacking.
      Nowadays I own a metbow amongst my collection, it's basically a simsek sipahi with a proper grip and, despite being a tall guy, I'm using it at 28-29" with correct technique. No arrow is to overspined for it.
      Yeah but zero forgiveness. Make a small mistake and you'll see it.
      Makes me wonder if I'd enjoy the vegh a little better now that I've matured a bit.
      Great video as always! Keep it up!

    Why don't you learn to do khatra to avoid the slap?

    • @NUSensei
      @NUSensei  6 місяців тому +1

      I am using khatra. Khatra doesn't magically solve every spine problem though. The more mismatched the spine, the bigger the action required, to the point where you can't avoid it.
