Making the full-body Sauron armor in sheet steel..! (LOTR)

- Hey friends! Here's the complete rundown on crafting the full steel laminated armor for Sauron from Lord of the Rings!

This project was done by cold forging 18 and 20-gauge laminated steel. Some parts were welded using electric welding. The pieces were darkened by burning the metal to achieve a worn-out black color!
To assemble the pieces for wearing on the body, I used cowhide leather and steel buckles to reinforce tension!
I have to confess, I didn't save the templates for this project. As I experimented with shapes, the templates changed a lot, so I mostly tossed them in the trash. Sorry!
Hope you enjoy this journey as much as I did! For Tolkien fans, I'll soon start working on the armor Fingolfin wore when facing Morgoth in the Silmarillion!

Currently 3d sculpting armor and looking for some reference about metal surface damage from smithing, this is incredible! Also the armor is just *chefs kiss* Sauron would stylishly command his legions of orcs with this

Its really really good, but may i suggest a little more depth and refinement around the edges, it just looks a little bit flat but it doesnt look like anything that a little bit more work couldnt fix, other than that, its perfect.

Out of curiosity. How long did this project take you and how much did it cost you in total?
@@ursinewarrior5573 The work took me approximately a year, and the cost of materials was around USD1000. That cost in materials does not take into account the six hours a day for a year. Maybe I would have made more money working six hours a day for a year if I had worked at McDonald’s😂😂😂🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

How much does it weigh? I bet you'd need to have super human strength to be able to fight in that thing. Seriously impressive work though. It looks just as good as the one in the film, maybe better.
I mean, real medieval armor was about 30-55 pounds (15-25 kilos), about as much as a modern soldier carries (including weapons, ammo, and backpack). This is made of pretty similar if maybe slightly thinner steel, so it’s probably about as bad as being 30-40 pounds (15-20 kilos) heavier. Not too bad for someone who does a lot of active work like, say, a blacksmith for example.

How thick is the sheet steel that you used?
I used 1.5 mm thick sheet metal for some parts and 2.5 mm for others..!

If you look at my channel, I started with mechanical and household things, and then I got the courage and made my first warrior, but in sculpture, it wasn’t wearable. Then I got the courage and made a breastplate, and later I got the courage again and made a full, wearable suit of armor…!

@@kjmt7760 I didn’t really use templates; I made some sketches in cardboard, and when they looked good enough, I made them in sheet metal. But they always changed a lot, so I threw away all those sketches. Im really sorry 🙏🙏🙏
