    This no-name cage (which goes by different names like Camvate, etc.) is probably the best and most affordable camera cage out there. Very versatile, and it fits most cameras, from mirrorless to DSLRs to even the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K.

    YES!!
    I purchased three from Amazon, so when I get another camera I can have a consistent look and mounting options as well as being able to mount other people's cameras if and when I do a collaboration and I don't know what they have. You, sir, are awesome.

    Thanks so much for sharing this. I had interest in a cage, but at the prices they are I thought I'd pass for now. This one seems much more reasonable for sure and your real world use gives me more confidence in it too.

    Bad idea: Using its hotshoe to mount a camera. The hotshoe is designed to hold only the weight of a flash.
    A better cage would be secured at the body eyelets(for the neck strap). Smallcage does that for the fujiXt3.

    I really like this and you make perfect sense: universal modular parts ftw! Then I look at the new Smallrig cage for the 6k pro and I'm thinking: that's nice how they integrate the T5 mounting point to the cage; and I like the idea of those cable locking mounts... So tempting. Lots of trade-offs to consider.

    The only problem with this setup is that it won't accommodate a Nikon Z-mount FTZ adapter natively -- there's not enough clearance from the bottom plate to mount the FTZ. I ended up leaving my Smallrig grip attached to the Z6 (which increases the clearance enough to accommodate the FTZ adapter) then installed the whole thing on the Camvate cage. Works really well now. Another solution would be to buy the Z6 battery pack -- the extra battery would come in handy. The flexibility of the Camvate cage really shines here. I use it with a Rode NTG shotgun mic and my Nikon 500PF for wildlife. Plenty of room to add the Atomos Ninja V now as well. Great setup and love the top handle. (The side handle isn't needed.)

    @wolfcrow How quickly can one get the camera in and out of the cage again? When switching to a gimbal for example. Could it be modified (like adding a QR plate adatapter)? Would that work? Tnx for the good info you put into the interwebs!

    good points well explained in a simple yet finely made video ... i'm wondering though if we're not supposed to put a lot of pressure on a camera's hot-shoe (and that's surely correct and for good reasons too!) then why this rig (or others for that matter) do require the hot-shoe as a second securing spot in addition to the camera's bottom plate's tripod screw as well? yes, it's done for making sure the camera's going to be "ruggedly" attached to the rig, but then when we add other peripherals on top of the rig we'd also put quite a sum of pressure on the camera's hot-shoe as well, wouldn't we?

    • @SeekerNJWC
      @SeekerNJWC 3 місяці тому

      The attachment to the hot shoe I would imagine is just for rotational support. Hopefully such forces are not excessive for most hot shoes.

    You wouldn't recommend smallrig?

    • @AllThingsFilm1
      @AllThingsFilm1 5 років тому

      I recommend SmallRIg. I have the full SmallRig cage for my BMPCC4K, and it cost me $79 delivered. And the way the cage is designed, I do believe it protects the sides, top and bottom of my camera. Either way, the cage has many points of attachment where I can add accessories of many configurations. The cage shown in this video cost $89, and doesn't have that many places where you can add accessories. I'm happy with my purchase of the SmallRig FULL cage for my BMPCC4K.

    • @wolfcrow
      @wolfcrow  5 років тому +1

      Over this one? No.

    • @wolfcrow
      @wolfcrow  5 років тому +2

      "doesn't have that many places where you can add accessories." Really? It has more 1/4" and 3/8" holes than 3 small rig cages. And it has two cold shoe mounts and more surface area to hold accessories.
      Do you have any specific accessory in mind you think this can't hold?

      what about import duties from China in Europe?

    • @Albanez39
      @Albanez39 5 років тому

      @@garvolt Depends where you live. My country doesn't have any import treaty with the EU or any country; If the product is over $20/20Euros, we have to pay 22-32% import tax. Yes, it's fucking unfair!
      But I haven't had such problems when ordering from China because Chinese sellers will declare a way lower price. I've bought a couple of smartphones (around $140 each) and they declared it as "Phone parts $10". And I just collected the package without paying anything.
      Every thing I've ever bought on ebay or Ali from Chinese sellers, was declared as being $10 or $5. And I'm really thankful for this.

    This video is getting old. There are small rig, tiny rig, Neewer and others made for brand specific models that are $59 dollars. If you are buying new cameras every few years 59 is not going to break the bank. I bought a tiny rig but Small rig seems to have the most option, including a clamp to squeeze clamp the HDMI port.
