    Come join me as I review my first-year work as an architecture student. The good, the bad, the terrible. I share it all.
    Doing so, you’ll hopefully learn what it’s like to study architecture. You’ll learn what you can expect to work on, what classes you’ll have and the individual projects you’ll need to hand in.
    If you’re thinking about studying architecture, this video will give you an insight into what you can expect to work on in your first year of architecture school.
    If you study architecture yourself and have been through your first year, please let us know in the comments below what that experience was like for you. Share with us your ups and downs. Share with us what others can expect to learn from studying architecture in university or college.
    You may be on the other side, thinking about studying architecture. If that’s you. Let us know! I’d love to hear from you.
    From this video, you’ll see that studying architecture is a lot of work. It requires long days, late nights and lots of concentrated hours.
    Your first year of architecture school will probably look a lot like mine. It will involve big studio projects and some complimentary courses such as Design Construction Principles and Design, Culture and Environment.
    Hopefully this video acts as a headstart to get you on the right track to figure out what to expect from architecture school.

      My experience is One professors assessment criteria is different from the other professors assessment criteria so I would get confused as to what's important and most professors just look at the aesthetics of our composition they don't look at the dimensions of the space or space arrangement it's just the stupid aesthetics of the sheet

      Wow, i recently finished my second semester and this was our full online semester, because of corona. It was interesting and chaotic at the same time. Like we still had to work with partners and that was challenging. We could just discuss things only on our phones/Skype and just one person could build a model. We were also very confused because usually the second semester is hand drawing heavy, but it was difficult to do that online. I really enjoy your videos!!! I just love how I can relate to almost everything you say :) Keep up and even more people and students will see, appreciate and relate to your videos!!!!!

    My first semester was for me the best & the worst time at school: I enjoyed all the new things I could learn - we had some really cool experiments with materials, lots of drawing & math, typology. We were using software a lot from the beginning (I learned 6new software in 4 months). On high school (difficult one) I was with little to no effort B student - that + poor time management caused that I almost dropped out. I improved my strategy during 2nd semester that was still very hard+pandemic. I chose a studio where we were designing things for a festival that we would actually build, in the end, we couldn't. My 2nd year stared online, but well. I just hope I can finish the way I stared or better.

    I’m at the end of first year rn. I have to say that this course is very fulfilling when you make a great design and see it through until the submission day it feels good. I also have to admit that it’s a lot of course work but I’m extremely dedicated to do the work idk I just find it satisfying doing the studio work and ticking off boxes on the submission requirement sheet. The other modules are alright but the construction one is not my favourite but i really think it’s the most important one.

    It looks so hard especially your 2nd semester hahaha. I got excited but at the same time scared? In your 2nd semester projects like the science and the math involved does your teachers help with that or teach you or did you just research everything on your own cause that looks so hard. Thank you for the video, keep up the good work mate :) (sry if my english is off its not my first language)

    Well my first year involved too many things- drafting BMCT sheets , working on my design and making lots of models , structures, measured drawings, learning history of architecture, doing assignments etc.. but at the end I felt I couldn't gain much knowledge as I was busy continuously doing assignments . I felt like I needed space to breathe , understand on how to apply these topics
    And thank you so much for sharing your experience of 1st year in architecture. It reminded me of mine.

    Hi! Really informative :) I’m currently a sophomore and I’m planning to major in architecture in college! Is there anything I can do right now to prepare for architecture in college? For example projects, summer programs, internships etc. One more question, do I have to be really good a sketching to be a successful architect? Thanks!

    • @kylesinko
      @kylesinko  2 роки тому

      Hi Chloe. Thanks a lot. I wish I had spent a bit of time in the software we use before starting architecture school. I recommend playing around with Sketchup, Rhino or Revit if you get a chance. Nothing too serious, just have some fun with them if you get a chance. Try and build your motivation/passion for it more than anything, like you're doing watching videos like this! This should answer your other question:

      Most of what you do in first year is hand-drawn or physically modeled. You don't NEED a good laptop from the very start as you won't be using it all that much, but considering you need one eventually there's no reason to grab grab one in the first semester.
