- Pokémon X & Y I feel get a lot of slack, which I very much disagree with. Here are the main reasons as to why.

lol, i remember watching a video years ago saying that the pokemon fandom regardless of its quality will always hate on a gen until a decade goes by and then look back at it as an underreated gem, so seeing this in my news feed made me chuckle. every gen is someones first pkmn gen and its always interesting to see other ppls perspective of a gen that wasn't well recieved by the mainstream fan at the time.
Yeah, I got the same vibe especially with black and white when it started to get popular among the fans. That’s why I try to form my own opinions regardless of what others think. I do definitely agree with your view on enjoying seeing what other people think of things I don’t like
Everything through gen 6 was always decent-very good. Only from USUM-SV did real cracks of actual damage to the brand's quality begin to show, especially starting with Sword and Shield.

I actually think X and Y are GORGEOUS games. I was just revisiting it a couple of days ago and realized it never occurred to me just how gorgeous the game was. So many of the towns are really pretty, and many of the routes are super scenic.
This game was never bad, people specifically pokemon fans made it look bad.

I don't get how it could cause such a great era for the Pokémon community and give everything so much breath of fresh air while at the same time be very hated upon. The Pokémon community during Gen 6 (and by extension most if Gen 7) was not anything like it's been from Sword and Shield onward.
Especially gamefaqs, it hated it more than reddit lol
It was bad. This gen did and still amazes me how it got all 600+ pokemon in 3D for the first time yet GF says its too much work now (for initial release of games) but still they look really soulless. I love the gimmick which at the time we didnt know it would disappear. Post game was none. Story was awful. Music is moderately catchy. IV training was fun. The “main” city is a god awful horror inducing nightmare. No memorable characters. Lacking new legendary pokemon. Shiny lock was so awful in this game. Pokeradar was fun. Fairy type was introduced…. Yeah that happened.
Overall not a tragic game but not a good one. SV SWSH and PLA are still worse than gen 6. But it’s not anywhere near older gen games. I think USUM did the Pokemon games justice in terms of new gen games. Otherwise ORAS was the best 3DS game Pokémon had to offer. These are my pros and cons of gen 6 on the top of my head without watching the video
@@eclipses3131I understand SWSH cause those games are actually the worst mainline games ever.
But SV are pretty good for what they are, yes they’re buggy, have terrible lighting and the textures are atrocious at times but the Pokemon look much more alive now, the story itself was a fun one for me, the downfall of SV is that they deserved more time in the oven but were taken out too soon.
PLA I also really don’t understand, yes it suffers from some visual difficulties and it doesn’t really have any unique trainer battles outside of the few in the story, but the gameplay itself was really enjoyable outside of that. I love that you can actually choose how you tackle a boss fight, solo it or use your Pokemon, the game actually innovated on the Pokemon formula in a new and fun way. It’s absolutely another case of deserving more Polish but compared to SWSH and SV it’s far better.
SV and PLA are steps towards the kind of game people have wanted for over a decade, it amazes me how people still don’t see that, but these are Pokemon fans so it makes sense they can’t see any good in anything 🙄
Pokemon X & Y have such a special place in my heart. I've probably replayed it a dozen times and I just adore the entire beginning. Often the early stages of games are annoying to get through but I found myself restarting my saves just to see the friend group sitting around the table picking a nickname for me :,) Even though Pokemon Y wasn't my first ever pokemon game (Pokemon White takes that spot), it was such an incredible expierence that will forever be in my memory.

These games will always hold a special place in my heart
Pokemon X and Y were a great generation of Pokemon, the hype around them were amazing and when they came out everyone was having a blast with Mega Evolution and wonder trading.
The only thing that prevented them from being a universal favorite generation was its story. Which isn’t bad, but having to follow up B/W is impossible.
Im really excited to go back and replay X and Y in anticipation for Legends Z-A
Yeah that’s a very fair take for it. It’s a great game but I definitely agree that the story of BW was amazing (part of the reason why I think it’s the best in the series) but there’s just so many other things to love in Kalos
X and Y put Gen 6 solidly in my Top 3 Gens. I loved so much of what these games represented and how they handled the region. Kalos felt alive, and these are the first games I played up until exceeding 999:59 play time. Unfortunately I never touched the Looker postgame and spent most of my time in Kiloude City challenging the Battle Chateaux. But this inspires me to go back.
X&Y were pretty solid, I remember it most for its well-designed online features and introducing wonder trade. It wasn't my favorite Pokemon game of all time but I definitely didn't hate it either. Honestly, I liked Sun and Moon a lot less because I felt they messed up the online system. I'm older than I like to admit and started playing Pokemon when I picked up a copy of Yellow in 1999. Most of my friends had copies of red and blue but I was a little bit late to the party. I've pretty much played every single mainstream Pokemon game since in the order that came out. I think I have a strong bias toward gen 1 as we all tend to lean towards our first game. Gen 4 was a close runner-up for me because it introduced online features like the GTS and wifi trading and battling. X&Y expanded on those features. It was the games after X&Y I had a problem with. I really didn't like any of them until Legends Arceus and Scarlet and Violet came out.
Yeah that makes sense. I've definitely had a lot of fun with the online before and with the multiplayer in general in xy far more than the modern ones. Especially compared to sword and shield which imo were just really bad. I've now gone back and played almost every mainline Pokémon game and I can see why others prefer the older games but I think XY have enough going for them to not be counted out

We're going to Kalos again, and it's only gonna take one more year! One more year! One more super-duper year! One more super-spectacular, extra-magical, extra-fantastical year!
Real talk though, X was my first Pokémon game (influenced by the then-current anime saga, although 2 years after the original release, meaning I missed out on some events), and the Kalos region and its residents hold a special place in my heart. I can't wait to see just how much attention will be given to this underrated region once Legends ZA hits.
I love gen 6 easily in my top 3 gens. It wasn't bad. Maybe a bit too easy to beat but in general it's actually great and one of the most stylistic/aesthetically appealing gens. 100% with the scoring those background music are lit! I so fucking love the designs of the gyms. As someone who started with Pokemon Yellow, I'm so glad Pokemon still exists and still trying their best to upgrade each gen. It may not be at par with other games when it comes to graphics, It's still fun to play. Even as an adult regardless if you love to nitpick all the flaws at the end of the day you still want to play it and add it to your collection
Oh yeah there’s definitely things to nitpick with them but I’ll always love them for what amazing things they added and the new things they tried out.
Love mega. And hope they add new ones in Pokémon legends. And wish they use it more in future games.
this was a fun watch!! it’s nice to see this game form your eyes but since it was the first pokemon game you played there is a desire to find the good in this game. but i think it was almost mean to fail in the way DP failed (and pearl was my first game) considering both generations were meant to set up the series for future installments.
the game is beautiful and sounds great but at the cost of generic characters and ANOTHER world ending plot as if galactic’s motives weren’t already an attempt to one-up magma and aqua. i think AZ is a great character but imagine if he was in integrated more in the player’s journey instead of tacked on at the end in the form of exposition. i don’t think it’s a coincidence his 2,000 years scene is now a meme over being remembered as a heartfelt moment. i go back to this game because i legitimately feel like it makes a good game for challenge runs, but im just relieved GF took many critiques from XY and did not repeat them. but damn those rivals get on my damn nerves.
I absolutely loved this game when I was 13. Spent like 400 hours on it lol
Some things I would generally say...
-The GenVI rivals, comparing them to their direct predecessors from GenV, Cheren, Bianca, and N, what the GenVI rivals have going for them is that you can go ten steps in X/Y without a rival challenging you. That genuinely drove me up the wall in B/W. The only rival in X/Y that you fight a whole lot is the opposite gendered player character and it's honestly fairly well paced.
-Team Flare, I really think they're only considered 'bad' because they came right off the heels of Team Plasma which are regarded as the best written villainous team in the franchise. (Personally, I'd argue it's specifically N and Ghetsis that are a notch above what we've come to expect with Pokemon villains, and Team Plasma as a whole is a bit overrated.) Flare, at worst, was just formulaic for a villainous team in the series. As for Lysandre's motivation, I've joked with friends that 'Lysandre didn't get the memo that he's in the Pokemon world rather than the real world'. His logic would be a lot more compelling if talking about the real world, but it's an extremely bizarre viewpoint in the Pokemon world.
Honestly, my biggest grievance with Team Flare is that they find Xerneas/Yveltal completely off-camera, whereas since GenIII we've seen the villainous team capturing (or at least finding) the legendary Pokemon required for their plan before our final showdown with the team.
-Speaking as someone who's been around since GenI, GenVI was the last time I was passionate about playing. People swear by Sun/Moon as a straight improvement of X/Y, but Sun/Moon was the first time where I said 'just another Pokemon game', though I acknowledge and appreciate that they at least tried to do something different with the 'gym leaders' in that game. Sword/Shield was the most bland, cookie-cutter experience I've had in a core Pokemon game. (Never bought the DLC but I hear it vastly improves the game.) Scarlet/Violet tries some interesting things, but I can't get past the fact that the game runs so bad. I will acknowledge that there might be some ethnic bias in me liking X/Y (being of French descent, French/British descent to be exact, the fact that Kalos was based on France had my undivided attention pre-release), but yeah, Y was the last game I actually really loved and played passionately. Not counting LA, a genuine game-changer in a stale formula.
Speaking of Legends, Z-A being a Legends game set in Kalos makes for the first Pokemon game in years that I'm genuinely excited for. Here's to hoping that the apparently longer development cycle means good things are in store for us.
I had very fond memories when I played Pokemon X , I chose Froakie as my starter because my brother pick Fennekin as his starter and I have a thing for ninjas while he's into mages , pick Charmander cuz I'm so ORIGINAL , pick sylveon as my eeveelution because this gal is a tank with moves like draining kiss and light screen . I'm current playing Pokemon Sun
More content should have been added. XY has the best custom clothes, but deserves more clothes for the boy player, and should have more custom clothes colors. Miare City feels like a hub world where there are different paths to any level. The Generation 6 graphics should be the standard in future Pokémon games in sharper quality.
Truth be told I stop playing Pokémon after gen 2 when I was young. Then when the 3ds came out I played X and Y and it got me back into Pokemon again. Then I want back to play black and white 1 and 2 then when the poke bank came I started playing them all to catch them all. And being enjoying Pokemon since then. And catching them all. So I can’t wait play legends Z-A and hope they make remakes of gen 2 and 5 😂😅
Would definitely be amazing to get those remakes. Especially gen 5 since I absolute love those games and would love to see more of Unova

XY was my favorite game since gen 3, I personally don't like 4th and 5th gen games, gen 6 was when the franchise started evolving again.

something i think is slept on story wise are the interestingly as u said the friends while the world isnt ending usually throughout the game we regularly just getinvited ti hangout with the group and sight see which i think goes a long way
ive always said that i thought the friend group aspect of the xy rivals made up for the fact they were slightly uninteresting like whe u battle ur friends on the bridge that whole segement is amazing i mean alot of people might hate on me for this but blues only character trait is that hes arrogant and he literally never changes yet we all love him may/brendan arent that interestig either

I was 20 when these games came out and I loved them so much. One of the best gens in my opinion. Very excited for ZA, and when the time comes an XY remake (hopefully, HGSS/ORAS style).
I also love X and Y. They were the games that brought me back into the series so they are very special to me! I appreciate this video, it really puts into words a lot of the things I enjoyed about the game as well. Good work!

Another thing, I want to be the Diantha defend persone here, though this is honestly a special case for me, I guess.
Yes her presence in the game isn't very large, but for me that actually was beneficial, because it created a core memory from XY.
You meet her, like twice before you reach the league, meaning you know she exists, but maybe you kinda don't realize she's a big deal.
Pokémon X was my first game as well, and it's actualy kinda funny because I was super invested in the story back then, but I didn't really register most of what was said, like Diantha for example.
Before I got to the league, my friend, who already beat the game, told me that our rival was actually the champion.
So I went into the league, a bit disappointed that I would just face Calem again.
But the league was actually really tough, not anymore, because I'm not a first time player anymore, but I still got an amazing experience out of it, and that's all that matters to me.
Now, I finally beat the last member, and this gigantic door opens, and I am allowed to step into the light and face the champion.
But instead I just see a majestic looking hall with an empty throne and a very pretty pattern on the ground, which actually brings me to the champion.
Finally there, I am suprised not to see Calem, but Diantha standing there as Champion, and for me, not only felt reaching the Champion like a reward, but I was rewarded with the pleasent suprise of getting to battle this majestic looking person instead of our Rival.
That was Diantha for me.
Fast forward to me replaying Pokémon Y last year, and I was actually battleing a bunch in the battle Chateau or what's it called, so I was fairly overlevelled and maybe didn't have my guards up that much. But Diantha actually managed to defeat the Majority of my Pokémon when I battled her, so I'd say she's at least a lot tougher than people give her credit for.
In the end I want to say that I'm glad to see more people enjoy my favourite Pokémon game.
That’s a really interesting perspective on diantha. I hadn’t really considered the lack of common appearances to enhance the final showdown with her near the end so that a great thing to hear about.

Pokemon X while not being my first game, was my first game that I believe I got the most out of and probably my favorite game. Mega Evolutions is easily one of my favorite things they’ve ever done w pokemon and I was really excited to see more megas will be coming soon. I wish the game was more challenging which that and I he shallowness of the main cast takes away from the game but I love the feeling of travelling with a large group especially at the beginning of the game when you all go through the forest together Great video and happy to subscribe to a smaller creator who is making good content
Gen 5 & 6 Is it for me.
I think online people have a tendency to write off mediocrity(not in the negative way) as outright bad, which makes discussing games hard. My issues with XY are mostly a loss of potential, this game had issues but felt adjacent to issues of other first engine titles before a third version. So i dont like it, but its still a good pokemon game. DP was still fun as a kid even if flawed
Ev training breeding shinies with technique, easy to get perfect IV’s best online server. This game was awesome to build a team for competitive battle compared to the modern games in my opinion
It was certainly a much easier and much more fun compared to most games. I would argue scarlet and violet is a bit better in that regard but they’re both really good for it

It had megas, the best online system for trading and finding people imo, interesting locations/routes spread across the region (way more interesting of a region than Scarlet/Violet) an interesting professor, nice gym designs (far more interesting than Gen 9) an actual victory road. nice elite 4 environments. And decent legendary capture events. long story short I’ll take Kalos (and team Flare) over Paldea (and team Star) any day… by miles. 😂
I personally think there’s still a lot to love about team star and gen 9 but there definitely is some issues with that one too lol. But I’ll always have a soft spot for team flare and the great additions gen 6 added
PSS is widely praised, still arguably the best online system of any pokemon games
anyways yeah this game rules the story is just nonexistent
Diantha in XY is as good as Cynthia in dp bad.. Same with team flair and galactic. And Cyrus and lysandre. Sinnoh was saved only because of platinum. If Z was there I am certain kalos will be as beloved as Sinnoh.
Of the rivals Shauna is alr imo. Diantha, has the potential to be as beloved as Cynthia.. Hopefully XY remakes in gen 12 will help to redemption the kalos. Personally kalos is my favorite region. Great video BTW. Earned a new a subscriber.

I actually loved these games. I replayed it alot and helped me through high school and i dont think theyre not that easy it depends on how someone plays. I even got flack for liking it like being called naive and saying i got bad taste. Pokemon fans are very harsh. Thats why im a major gen 6 fan games and anime.
Also these games had the best Pokémon center Design it felt so lived in

I started with the original red blue then yellow. I love all the games but X and Y just hits different 4 me. I love the game nd mega evolution nd 2 me it's the best one ever made. I'm dying 4 a remake!!! I never understood how a game could receive such hate but it mostly came from older players which makes sense. Most adults just cry nd critique but I will always be a fan of the pokemon series!!! I hope it never ends I will be an old man nd still be playing these games 😂 Awesome video!!!
Can definitely agree there. It just has so much emotional attachment to it and so I’m really excited to see how the new legends ZA game about Kalos will do. Will definitely have to make a review about then when it comes out 😂

X and Y should get a remake when the new legends comes out. Hope they even explain the war that would be amazing

I thought I would warm up to these games with time, but I've come to enjoy them less and less as the years go on. There's a bit of nostalgia there for me, but not enough to overcome the low quality of this game. Thanks for sharing your opinion, nonetheless. I enjoy hearing why people enjoy the games they enjoy.

The only part I hated about x and y was most of the megas you couldn’t get, like I wanted a mega gyrados and tyranitar on my team but nah, had to beat elite four but I loved the game

The main issue I have with Lysandre's motivation is it's baseless. Hi believes that people are making the world less beautiful and that eventually it's ruin the beauty of the world completely. However, everywhere we go in Kalos looks stunning. It's arguably the most beautiful region in Pokemon so his argument doesn't really make sense. I think if Kalos had a town that was in ruin because of the continuous development of humans (perhaps Lysandre came from there) it would justify his point. It would add a legitimacy to his goal. In addition the rivals having important story beats individually in lets say every other city would've added more to their character. Pokemon X and Y isn't necessarily considered bad games. They are simply seen as incomplete. There so much missed opportunities and questions that still linger. What's in the closed door of the power plant is another example of this. Pokemon X and Y were the second game I've played and while they are underrated they have too many flaws imo. Originally a Pokemon Z was planned that would've likely fixed the issues but it was scrapped. Hopefully PLZ-A will fill in the gaps and add what the region is missing. (And maybe when we eventually get around to proper remakes it'll properly fix the game itself)
That's fair. I can understand that. That is definitely a great idea surrounding Lysandre specifically tho, not something I'd have thought of.
Not to mention all the gym leaders pokemon have horrible ai, and like only 2 moves for some reason.
The capital of the region is a giant city powered by energy plants in the the middle of badlands. It is possible the energy extraction didn't cause this, but I wouldn't blame Lysandre for having doubts.
@@LikeADerp99Well that's a difficulty issue. And if you want difficulty then no Pokemon game is really good. That's more of a franchise issue than an XY one.

Things X and Y flopped on.
Lysandres: Motives, his goal didn’t make sense, he cared about the world losing its beauty. But then he was all suicidal and wanted to create genocide to destroy the world? It’s hypocritical, and then in X blasting the world to cause things to be immortal is like more aligned with preserving beauty (I guess?) but then he’s just immortalizing his suffering.
- Team flare, not rememberable imo.
- Gym leaders/Elite 4 only having 2 moves for their Pokémon or bad Ai, Elite 4 only 4 Pokémon. No megas used in the main story besides mega Lucario.
- Closed Power plant, Couriway town station doing nothing, Southern Kalos just being virtually nothing.
- Lack of events/post game content. Lack of legendaries. Like they could of easily made Diancie have a plot line in reflection cave, Volcanion with the power plant and something for hoopa.
Pacing and leveling is way too fast.
They definitely should of chose to expand more on AZ’s lore and background and involvement in the story. The narrative of the ultimate weapon and floette should of been been the primary focus. Team flare was tied into it yes, but I feel like it just needed more cohesion

I love Megas
XY's biggest mistake, was being made after pokemon Black and white and pokemon black2 and white2. It had to do the impossible task of living up to the standard that generation 5 set for every pokemon game that comes after it.
Pokemon Y may not have been my first pokemon game, but it holds a very special place in my heart for being the game I remember hooking me onto the competitive side of pokemon. I think to this day I spent more time grinding the battle masion in pokemon y and omega ruby than I have on any other battle facility across the franchise. These games have flaws, but I'd still hold them up to the same quality as gens 3 and 4 at the top of the list of games we got from the mainline series of game.
The thing that hurt the most about pokemon XY is that it just didn't get a chance to live up it's full potential. Pokemon Z got scrapped so we never will know what the definitive version of Kalos would have looked like if gamefreak had fixed some of the issues with it's shallow character depth.
Kalos was the last Pokemon Region I got truly immersed in to the point where I just enjoyed exploring the world, and I can't wait to see more about pokemon legends Z-A when they're ready to tell us more about the game.
Wow, I disagree with (almost) everything you said here. No, these games are not underrated gems, they're garbage, a misstep that shouldn't have happened and that plagued the franchise ever since with its bad choices (I mean, criticize the state of Scarlet and Violet all you want, everything comes back to XY when you look at it).
The "almost" was for the rivals when you said that they were bad, because they are, they're the worst and I can't even say I hate them because like most of the content of this game, I don't remember them (which is good).
Gen 6 wasn't bad it just couldn't live up to the quality of gen 5
And it was also very barebones on lore and characters the animations were stagnant and they made everything laughably easy trainers having no more than 3 mons why oversimplify it lol

They’re overhated but they’re not good games
It wasn’t good. But it wasn’t god awful. Gen 6 was just really meh. It is so bland and bare bones. I can at least say megas are perfect and should’ve never left the series. Just like power type gems in gen 5. its just that a lot of UA-camrs and this generation of kids grew up with gen 6. Also being the first 3D games its gonna stand out for sure
I thought diamond and pearl are the most bland and slow games in the series
@@edwardsaldana2534 oh definitely true. But hgss, bw, bw2 and rse and are all amazing. They’re so peak. Gen 6 was very much a let down but at the same time. TIME CONSTRAINTS. I applaud them for overhauling everything in 3D all at once. Looking at you cursed switch games 😂 still tho that game needed 2 years more to fully be realized

@@edwardsaldana2534 thats fine. Gen 7 is probably on par with how boring and drawn out DP are. I could never go back to replay them. Ive got all of the pokemon games on my 3DS and I either play gen 5 or HGSS. Or ORAS. SM USUM were so unbelievably slow that it was so hard not to just quit playing it. Doesn’t help that the story doesn’t make that much sense, characters are annoying and the evil teams are some of the most incompetent and stupid ones we’ve ever had. ORAS was the best 3DS game we got in that time era. In another timeline if Pokemon Z happened maybe it too would have the potential of being the best 3DS games.
Still at the end of the day XY at least had a lot of fun ways to shiny hunt. But they were also a big step down on the micro shiny locking for gen 5. No legendary pokemon were shiny hunt able

X and Y were released last 2013
Omega Ruby and Alpha Saphire were released last 2014

Yeah can definitely agree there. Plus it is a shame we don’t get to see them use more pokemon since we only really see them again in the battle chateaux
X and Y were bad for the time. The jump to 3D, the Gen 1 pandering, the boring plot and exaggerated villains, the lack of challenge, the laughably easy to catch Legendaries and lack of legendaries in general, lack of postgame. But in hindsight X and Y were very charming and had a lot of care and passion put into them. I have more to compliment gen 6 on than I have insults. I love Kalos, but I admit I gave it lots of hate when it came out.

Not a bad game, but BW2 was AMAZING, so it was a pretty big downgrade
