  • Took a day off of work to fish with my Dad. I had big expectations, going to a spot I hit in June with a friend that rarely gets fished and has lots of nice holes but it was full of a long, sticky weed that clung to almost every cast. We tried fishing this first stretch for about two hours but it was just too annoying and didn't show any signs of getting better so we moved upstream on the same creek about three miles.
Plan B I fish at least a couple times every year and it always treats me well. There was zero long, slimy weeds like down stream and the beavers here continue to do stream modifications. The stream was so much deeper above the dam for the full length (1/3 mile) that we fished. And it created super deep undercuts and a very narrow main channel. Hard to fish with two guys, you really had to take turns. But it always produces nice brookies.
I had recently purchased a new polarized lens filter for my GoPro, between that and battery failures due to the heat the video is a bit sketchy but it is what it is.
I will be checking that first section we tried again this winter and hoping the weeds die back and dissapear. Then I will need to get my dad back there in spring to experience that section at it's most impressive.

Yes, that section of steam always seems to produce nice fish.

Good day of fishing. Those creeks that are 3 feet deep and narrow with heavy undercut are exactly what produce quality fish. If I were you I would go back there in 2 or 3 weeks. The big fish are going to be getting aggressive.

Yes, I think I'll have to try it one more time fall since it's close to home and a short section of stream
Have you gotten out much this year?

@@rjmarquardt I've gotten out a little less than I'd like to, but still plenty. Maybe had 8-ish trout outings this season up to this point. About 3 more outings in the kayak as well.
Actually caught my Personal Best on the Prairie back in April, got a 19" Brown. I'm looking to go two more times this season, as I have a long and crabby winter ahead of me until May.
