Date: December 2nd, 2023
Interviewers: Rick Lindholm & Marca Daley
Thompson L Holway (Thom) was born March 30, 1934 and spent his childhood in Provincetown and North Truro, moving to Eastham in the early 1950s. His parents were Charles H and Emma (Thompson) Holway.
Thom is a colorful raconteur, and in the first of our two interviews, he regaled us, not only with stories of his (and his extended family’s) early years on the Outer Cape, but stories of fishing for mackerel, finding lobsters, cooking “Catfish Vinho D’alhos,” and playing baseball for Eastham’s AA baseball team in the early 50s when Eastham legend Winnie Knowles was the manager.
Sports has figured prominently in Thom’s life, and he shares many anecdotes of playing softball for “Ben and Jerry’s,” fast pitch softball for “Sal’s Place” and the “Beach Comber,” and bowling in the Yarmouth ten pin league.
But his sporting career hasn't been limited to Cape Cod, and Thom still goes to Fort Myers every spring and works for the Boston Red Sox at JetBlue Park during their Spring Training season.
We hope you enjoy watching this video as much as we enjoyed making it, and we thank Thom for his invaluable contribution to our EHS Oral History Project.
