Too bad most eBay sellers don't go to this extent of demonstrating their items for sale. I would buy from bigapple59 without hesitation after watching this in depth video demonstration
A good Demo. Are there filtered power strips which have less line noise which are reasonably priced ? In Recording Studios we use line conditioners but expensive. Also I would like to see the Drake SW8 vs this Sat 800 for audio and SYNC comparison ..thanks. I would be comfortable buying from this Seller on Ebay.
@will Thats what I was thinking too. I have had very inconsistent chugging at times depending on where I was, time of day, proximity to other powered components, etc. There is no perfect listening environment that can be maintained all the time, and also he said a key thing, that the radio is more sensitive by design. Cheaper or lesser radios dont have the problems because they just arent so sensitive. If you want a sensitive radio, you take the bad that comes with it too. No perfect world.
I very much enjoyed your video. I have an interest in this type of radio as I’m a AMdxer & shortwave listener. But not the time to buy. Be Well. :) AJY
Seems to me (someone) changed his, or her mind and wanted to either buy a cheaper radio from someone else...or needed the money for something else..My G3 does the same thing, changing from one PLL to another...there is nothing wrong with that radio...
The guy that sent it back is obviously a novas listener ,I personally do not care for the satellit 800, I am a 750 man. The guy wants to return it, I think he just spent money he could not afford and wants it back even if it makes him out a total jerk wad.
Very well explained,. I think some people should be test more carefully and thoroughly before to returned a perfect radio like this, EXCELLENT and working fine, Many other people would have liked, and it is reasonable to think that even the person or persons who returned this radio the reasons set have realized they really did wrong and are sorry! Thanks many for sharing, Pedro from Oviedo (North of Spain).....
I just read that the Satellit is also a Tecsun. So really, Eton, Tecsun, Grundig are all the same factory and parts? shortwavedxer.blogspot.com/2011/02/grundigeton-satellite-750-tecsun-s-2000.html Maybe the complaints and problems come from the fact they arent German anymore (more than 10 years).
I just picked up one of these units for trade off of Facebook marketplace. The amplifier section is clearly working, but I get no reception on any of the bands (AM, FM, or Shortwave), only background noise which adjusts up or down with the volume. Nor does the meter budge. When I touch the antenna, I hear a change in sound frequency, so I assume it is still connected. The individual I got it from was using a 350ma power adapter that had the correct polarity, but that wasn't specifically designed for this unit. So, I picked up one that was. I read something on FixYa about codes that can be reset, and also an article about a transistor that typically goes bad. Given your high level of experience with this model, I thought you could advise me as to where I could best direct my troubleshooting efforts.
Hello. I would like to ask a question. I received a Satellit 800 today after winning an eBay auction. Unfortunately, all that happens either with batteries and/or the AC adapter is a quick flash of the display and then the clock starts at 00:00. The unit will not power up. The clock keeps time but I can't set it. All of the buttons are dead. I read that the system can be reset by removing the adapter/batteries for 30 minutes. I have done this 3 times today (while waiting for the seller to return my message) to no avail. Do you know of some manner of a reset that I haven't stumbled upon? Thanks!
I just read on eham.net from 2013 that chugging was a complaint on these radios so I guess its normal (?) www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/index.php?topic=93764.0
I don’t understand what he thinks is wrong with it?. Also I never knew that the little chrip was there. I am a new owner I’ve only had nine a couple of days. Still finding out more about it What power supply or are you using? Is it the one that came with the radio or is that an aftermarket one? If it is after market where did you get it. Very informative thank you very much
I was using an original power supply for the demonstration. Most aftermarket power supplies are the very noisy switching variety that render reception on AM broadcast and shortwave virtually useless. I sell a good aftermarket power supply on Ebay that will supply 9 volts at 1 amp and is a perfect substitute and will not generate tons of RF noise.
I know this video is nearly 5 years old now but I have one these radios I acquired second hand it works perfectly and it is in decent condition but it was missing the original power pack and I can not find one that does not have severe noise issues anywhere?... I was wondering if I can contact you to get an original one for my unit, that is if you have one?...
I sell good 9 vdc adapters in my Ebay store to use with this receiver. If you purchase one of the Chinese switching adapters, it will create so much noise that it will make the 800 impossible to use. You can find my Ebay store link here: www.ebay.com/itm/392987825495
Jeffrey petch-harrison The chugging noise is from the atmosphere, on higher H.F. frequencies. Disconnect the external antenna, it will most likely go away. Excellent video.
I love mine, it's big, can be a pain in the butt to get reception when plugged in, eats d batteries like I eat Better Cheddars, but with the right antennas in the right places and it can pull in some signals under some pretty poor location conditions.
Yes, we always test items and service them as required. On occasion if something does not measure up and the equipment is not serviced, then we note this information in the Ebay listing. I would surmise that about 40- 50% of the items arriving into our hands require attention. Sometimes the seller just does not know. Other times, they do not disclose.
@@nathanpetrovski7525 I know what you mean but i wonder if after Grundig sent production to China, 2007 or so, did the components suffer and some drift is the most a person can expect now? The German radios were amazing, best i ever listened to.
Bullshit....... Grundig NEVER EVER produced a Satellit 800. It's a China made copy. The last original Grundig was the 700. After that the production was stopped, and Grundig went down. Greetings from Germany.

The "chugging" noise is most likely something local to his environment.

Wow. You are an amazing person. You exemplify integrity. You also taught me a little more about my Satellit 800. Best wishes. 👍🏾
so was it refunded or did you look at it for the douche than send it back or what?
Excellent video! Thanks so much! I have the highest confidence in this seller.
I bought a Drake SW-8 from him. A1 Transaction. A good receiver and the Display is sharp unlike some others reported.

Are these better or grundig satellit elite classic?
Is that Reciever cover the HF Band as well the Uhf / Vhf bands?

Very nice demonstration how it works when you change the final frequency to a round value let us say from f.e. 5999.9to 6000 kHz. Thanks a lot.
Its never, never a Grundig Satellit (Germany)!!
Der letzte "deutsche" Grundig Satellit war der 700er. Grüße aus Berlin (Germany)
Almost bought this little gem... had the cash in my pocket but the sticker shock scared me away
good explanation

I want one of these...Grundig are Good Radios
Mine doesn't do that.

Also I guess I owe you again, between the loop antenna and now the 9v chord my radio has been sounding so much better
Each D. Cell is 1.5V add them up and get a 12V adjustable plug and you can recharge an AGM.
If it has sideband, may i buy one of your radios?
John, I sell these Satellit 800's on Ebay under the seller Bigapple59. Yes, they offer sideband reception.
bigapple59 I saved your ebay store. I feel I can buy your items in confidence because it seems you test them.

Hi. Is it normal for the Satellit 800 to drift like mine has been since I got it?
No, it is not normal. Typically the Satellit 800 will drift very little. There is no warm-up and I have never seen one of these receivers drift.
bigapple59 What can I do to fix mine?
@@@nathanpetrovski7525 some radios drift, some have circuits to stop that.
cvcoco The Satellit 800 shouldn’t drift though.

what rock did you crawl out from...I have one of these in my closet I never operate because it's lame...try getting attention some other way!
