@@4rover4 try the method I posted. Grab the bio rifle. You don’t need belts or shields, just camp in the spot I stated and unload when you see him coming either left or right. He runs strait into them chasing you it works every time.
@@jamesalex5474 yeah, sounds effective. however, xan sometimes can backpedal and shoot you from any window. he might not do this when you're too far inside the corridor and he will just go aggressive with you. since his ai is not very well made to avoid these kind of traps he just does that. never tried it but sounds good
Yeah, very true. all the powerup spots need to eb shepherded very well, so he doesn't get them to boost himself. As to beating Xan- the Flack Cannon was the best weapon for me, since you can hit him around the corners, when he does not see you and start dodging. Plus hitting under his feet, instead of directly, which causes splash damage, even if you miss.
This fight taught you to use your ears an shoot where they will be instead of where they are, because he has nearly 100% accuracy. You can't let him have a shot at you for long. I remember it took me a couple weeks to grind the ladder on godlike and I was stuck on xan for another week or two before I finally beat him. I don't think I remember any other game making me feel so accomplished.
for my recent godlike playthrough hardest ones were some of the deatmatch maps and the last attack/defend map.. overlord or wtf is it called after getting through those it was a walk in a park for me especially xan ... still without headset it would be harder though

Even if you die the most, your deaths are divided amongst all the players that killed you. Just focus on getting kills the most often. That is the opposite strategy to beating xan. In one on one, your deaths are not divided up. You cannot win with the most deaths.
Not really. Just very agressive script with perfect set timing to get belt shield, vest, and invisibility. After that he will just run after you like mad and walk on your rockets and grenades. If his health will drop after certain level he will withdraw just enough to get med kits. Nothing complicated really, and if you play aggressively enough and know the map and wont spare ammo you will win.
Not sure what level I beat him on but when I was a kid.. maybe 9 or 10.. this dude was hard as fuck. I remember feeling so proud after beating him because now I could wear the xan skin in multiplayer :) thats besides knowing about changing game files to give you xan without having to beat him.
Dude exact same thing for me. I was around 10 years old and spent days trying to beat him. I remember when I Finally was up a few frags and about to win my hands were shaking
Changing game file, doesn't make you feel like you accomplished anything. But when ou beat him - that's whole other story! Plus it improves your skills.
I forgot about all the awesome alternate firing modes for these guns. God this game was awesome. Loved peppering a place with the rocket launcher’s grenade mode

I remember playing the final level, it was a struggle back in 2009 but later in 2013 all my hard work payed off. My plan is to wait in the area where the rocket launcher is and wait for the right moment to strike. It sort of a blind spot strike were the moment he lands his guard is down long enough to finish him. Just as long he doesn’t have the flake gun and the energy shield.

You know... i had so much more trouble in CTF then the fight against Xan. Hard to play with sandbags as your team haha. Recently finished this on godlike again, but got stuck on one of the CTF maps for about 50 minutes in a single match.. what a pain.
November subway? The all-female opposing team had their base on full lockdown. At least two campers and the other two mysteriously always knew exactly where you were and ran at lightspeed. That map was easily the most tedious, slow and frustrating to win. Basically you had to kill the one or two campers and catch them replenishing their equipment if you wanted any chance of getting past them with the flag.

This is legitimately the hardest fight in fps game. Especially considering that back in the day we were using mouse with balls, screen the resemble microwave with less than 30 fps at 360p. This MF used to run me crazy…

Xan is deadly in one of three ways - when he has the shield belt, armed with the Flak Cannon, and if he has the Minigun at medium range (anywhere inside the ship). You make sure he doesn't get up close and personal and you deprive him of the belt, and he is really only a normal bot with predictable moving patterns and better accuracy. If you catch Xan outside the ship and mid-air, he is a sitting duck until he touches the ground again. You will grow a healthy and fruitful relationship with the Shock Rifle. If he does get the belt, find him jumping outside and blast him with a charged Biorifle blob.

@@beyondafx I played this level constantly back in 2002 I got good at jumping out openings to other parts of the ship (too far and you're into space, not far enough and the same) . One weapon which people overlooked was the BIO SLUDGE GUN.....(at the lowest level of the spaceship near the yellow FLACK CANNON ). The trick is to hold the right button down, this charges it up into a deadly green sticky bomb. Let go of the right button to stick it to the floor or wall in the path of Xian ( when he follows you). As he runs past, it explodes and you hear him go AAAGH ! But be careful NOT TO GET YOURSELF WITH IT. Another major tactic is to deny him any power ups ; Armour, shield, invisibility and +5% test tubes. Also try denying him the good ammunition whenever you can ......hopefully these tips will help you !! FANTASTIC GAME 👍👍👍👍

At 1920x1080/300Hz and the highest graphics settings, the game runs incredibly smooth just as shown in @afx's video above. FRAPS shows a constant 60 FPS, CPU hovers around 8%/67°C and GPU 12%/54°C. So nostalgic, I remember playing this game for countless hours every day as a child! 🥹 Sad that Epic Games decided to abandon Unreal Tournament to focus on Fortnite. At first I gave up fighting him after a bit, opting to just enable it in the settings, later on though I went back to fight him again, and i managed to do it after probably the closest match ive eevr seen. good times
@beyondafx insane. Xan still gives me flashbacks. I spent weeks at one of the last levels. And the one b4 xan also. actually the last batch of missions was hardest. One thing i liked about the challange was that ir was getting gradually harder with each advance in the pyramid. Indeed a plunge to nostalgia
man i could only barely beat him memorizing when the u damage powerup and shield belts would spawn while depriving him of invisibility, tackling him on godlike would probably destroy me physically
The EASIEST way to win is to grab the bio rifle (green goo gun) charge it fully, and just camp where the gold belt is. make sure you can see him coming from both sides. when you get a glimpse just open fire repeatedly in his direction whilst retreating backwards. he runs into the sludge 99% of the time and dies. repeat that over and over again, you can't lose. if you see him on the other side of the ship, just take cover behind the wall for a second and get back into position. dead easy. I did one once where I avoided him for about 10 - 15 mins, eventually he goes downstairs and just camps by a barrel and doesn't move. only when you open fire he comes alive again. i guess the games programming runs out after a while. I don't think ive tried it on god mode but im 100% sure it still works. someone try it out and tag me if you can.
Used to use a mod to edit godlike bot profile. Camping off and max other sliders, no dodge cd, max walls and aim theywould hit u in the head the milisecond u dodged past a crack every time and be savage, really gotta pin point that 55 second accuracy for belt and deny sniper. Way harder than 2k4 and ut3 they seem to mostly go negative score more often.

UT99 map makers had the knack for giving maps hidden nooks and crannies, really made them special

Fuck yeah! Finished out the match with no deaths, and with a full shield belt and maxed health. XD
The main thing in beating Xan is to shepherd the shield belt, 100HP keg, armor, and invisibility. Then youre on the right track.

Change the color pallete from 16bit to 32. My Ryzen 5 3400G runs the game at 12fps in 16bit colours, but like 300fps at 32bits

This game still looks good. Music insane. Gameplay is challanging. Ai are strong. It barely has any bugs if any. Immersivness is achieieved so great.

The EASIEST way to win is to grab the bio rifle (green goo gun) charge it fully, and just camp where the gold belt is. make sure you can see him coming from both sides. when you get a glimpse just open fire repeatedly in his direction whilst retreating backwards. he runs into the sludge 99% of the time and dies. repeat that over and over again, you can't lose. if you see him on the other side of the ship, just take cover behind the wall for a second and get back into position. dead easy.
I did one once where I avoided him for about 10 - 15 mins, eventually he goes downstairs and just camps by a barrel and doesn't move. only when you open fire he comes alive again. i guess the games programming runs out after a while.
I don't think ive tried it on god mode but im 100% sure it still works. someone try it out and tag me if you can.

Used to use a mod to edit godlike bot profile. Camping off and max other sliders, no dodge cd, max walls and aim theywould hit u in the head the milisecond u dodged past a crack every time and be savage, really gotta pin point that 55 second accuracy for belt and deny sniper. Way harder than 2k4 and ut3 they seem to mostly go negative score more often.
