I got the MAX version. It’s not just that it sounds great; it feels amazing. It just works right out of the box. No more fighting the software to get something that works. Not every tone is to my taste, but they all feel amp-like. It has that depth and squishiness that makes it feel natural.
Yeah that’s the thing…even just the default Marshall JCM sound I was using had a great feel and was really super versatile…same with the Dumble…I think it’s really good and with software updates it could potentially get even better!
I just got the Tonex version for my birthday, but haven't started playing with it yet! Great to see you try it out, cause you always give gear justice! What I notice right away is what a body and tone it has, and how responsive it is to what you're doing. This is freaking impressive compared to Amplitube. I think using this in combination with Amplitube will be candy!! Hahaha and you shopping for that perfect chug in the Hard & Heavy Collection is like a kid in a candy store!
Thank you very much Richard! I hope you will like it…I think it’s pretty good!! There is another video coming soon too…I just did some Tone/Amp Captures
@@TSFAHTPS Awesome! Looking forward to it. You hunting down for that perfect chug - even though you pretend you're not a metal-head lol - is always exciting to me!! Good deep dive video. It took some time and my 1st captures were hit and miss, but I'm really liking getting my tones and being able to give them away for free. Look up A RECTO, A RECTO BASS, AND A HARTKE tone models and hopefully A CHAMP coming soon all advance captures and all free.
Thanks for this. I have watched a few now and can't seem to find anyone that shows how to get a TONEX preset into amplitube 5. I made a preset but when I go into amplitube 5 to search for it I can't find it.
Hi Gabor, Thank you so much for this video, I watched carefully and also played with my own Tonex too. Have you been able to figure out how to use the pedals from Tonex in Amplitube? Yes, you can replace Amplitube's amp with Tonex pedal, but then you will run amp-less and it doesn't allow you add any amps to the chain! weird.
Yeah, I think that will be an update…you could use two plugins running into each other but that would be kinda cpu intensive…although I found ToneX to use way less cpu than AmpliTube
Thought it sounded good, was just a little underwhelmed with those spring reverbs. Maybe it was just the way you quickly set them up but I dont think you are getting any drip out of those. I know thats being nitpicky and its not about the reverb but that definitely stood out. The amp sounds were pretty great.
I feel like the reverb options inside of Tonex are just kind of placeholders that you are supposed to turn on to not have to listen to a disgusting completely dry guitar sound while you fiddle about with different captures. :p For your actual reverb sound in a mix, you'll use something more high quality from Amplitube, another reverb plugin, or reamp into one of your favorite reverb pedals. Maybe there'll be an update that improves the Tonex reverbs, but I can definitely see IK wanting to nudge you toward Amplitube for higher-quality reverb sounds..
So Im a Songwriter/Producer. I am wondering if this has full presets like amplitude? I want to spend the least amount of time getting tones and focus on the writing. would I be better off buying the STL tonality Howard Bensen than this if I'm looking for go to dialed in VRS CHR bridge Guit sounds? thank you!
I’m on holiday so looking forward to trying this when I’m back home. I already have Overloud THU rig player which I love. Is there much difference in sound quality? I saw your rig player review you did in the past
I plugged into the ‘Guitar’ input on the IK interface…which I guess is kinda like a built in DI - I did mention the signal path/setup at the start of the video
Can someone _please_ tell me whether or not you can customize the number of knobs on the pedals? I can't find a single video talking about it, and so far I'm less than impressed that there seem to be lots of functions that have been removed from the more complex distortion pedals.
I'm torn about Tonex. On one hand, the profiles all sound great for what they are. On the other hand, as a "classic" rock guitar player, I've already found my perfect tone in tweaking the Black Angus profile for a couple hours. I don't think I needed to spend a dime to get here 😁, as Black Angus is part of CS. I own the standard version. It has also rendered my Amplitube 5 all but redundant. I'm 1/2 kidding, but I could totally get away with using nothing but a couple Black Angus presets for my live sound.
Hi guys, if there are some nerds who would like to know more about this kind of amp "modelling" I posted a few links in my community section. This technology is quite interessting overall. As a physicist to earn a living we use deep learning in a radiotherapie department to contour the organs at risk in the CT scans.
It’s the middle one…the “Standard” Series! It’s not the Japanese made “Professional” Series …it’s the higher end Indonesian made guitar!! It’s really good…I like it a lot!!
I'm not a professional, but tell you my impression. I have AT5 and was excited to get the Tonex. It didn't disappoint but was not as exciting as I thought. Yes, it has lots of amplifiers, but honestly most of them sound very much the same, at least to a non-professional's ears. Also, I was hoping I could use the Tonex features inside AT5. Well, yes, you can open its amps in AT5, but you cannot tweak amps inside AT, also, sadly, using Tonex pedals in AT5 is limited. Basically, AT5 allows you open Tonex thing in place of the amp in the chain. So, you can open an amp from Tonex, or open a pedal. But when you open a pedal, then it does not allow you open an amp! So you will be left with an amp-less chain!! So, to answer your question, if you have AT5, don't bother buying Tonex, it will not add too much. I think the main use of Tonex would be to capture your own gears into computer system, which I don't understand why somebody who has a real amp/pedal, etc wants to computerize it.
The difference is AT5 is 'old tech' based on component modelling and TONEX is 'new tech' based on machine learning. AT5 is more versatile, TONEX is supposed to sound more like real amps. Whether or not it does sound like real amps is up to the listener/player.
I think Owen hit the nail on the head…I think ToneX is a newer way of modeling amps and possibly the way IK will go in the future! Also the possibility of modeling/capturing/profiling your own or your friends amps is what makes it interesting! I think it’s still in its very early stages and it’s integration with AmpliTube and the whole IK ecosystem will greatly improve with software updates. I thought some of the amps sounded and felt really good…others didn’t excite me at all - I am really looking forward to modeling/capturing/profiling some of my own amps to see how easy or difficult it is and how close you really get - and I’m really hoping for them to release a pedal version of this!
Nice demo presentation, but have to say it doesn’t live up to the marketing hype for me. It doesn’t really sound like a huge step forward in realism if you already own some decent amp sims. I think the only reason I’d buy it would be if I really wanted to model my own gear - everything else is a bit, well, meh.
The technology is amazing but the thing about "tone capture" that puts me off is it that without knowing the circuit, it has no way of capturing how each component is affected as knobs are turned - once you change a setting it's taking a guess and applying it's own generic tone shaping so the "accuracy" is going to stray (and you've got to hope the quality remains when tweaking someone else patch to fit your needs). OTOH with creating music the end justifies the means so if it ultimately sounds/feels good to use, it is good (Maybe IK will blend the 2 virtual recreation approaches in the future..).
I know where you are coming from but the EQ control's are actually very useful and it doesn't kill the profile like I've heard it can do on the likes of Kemper. Example, I downloaded a user patch of a Bogner in a slightly crunchy settings and I wanted a bit more bottom end, so added more bass and it honestly sounded like I was altering the control on the amp rather than some weird post EQ implementation, it was very natural. Also, when you capture an amp it does put various white noise and some wave sweeps at different volumes to get the full gain structure of the profile, which means that rolling back gain or increasing yields similar results to preamp gain on an amp. Arguably this profiling tech isn't as flexible as algorithmic circuit based but to my ears it sounds and more importantly feels better as it's a like an accurate sample of a an amp/cab.
@@JN-qj9gf for me I'm hoping to simplify getting good ITB guitar tones but ones I actually like to play using and not just slapping an amp sim on a DI. I'm auditioning all the IK and user profiles and have narrowed it down to some that are great, regardless of the amp or cab used. Too often Im messing around with different amp sims and picking IR when I should be playing. My own amps aren't very good (I still profiled them anyway to see how accurate) so it's nice to play through virtual copies of other people's much better rigs!
I’ve read that concern about the Kemper for years. Frankly, I don’t really understand it, and especially so now that I’ve had the Kemper for a little while. I choose profiles that are already close to what I want, and then if I have to tweak Bass/Middle/Treble/Presence, I don’t really care if those virtual knobs are matching what the source amp does. They still do b/m/t/p, with predictable results. And since I’ve already chosen a profile that’s in the ballpark, I’m not making sweeping changes to the eq. But, even if I wanted to, I’ve not noticed any issues with diminished “quality.”
I installed it, no dynamics...uninstalled it. Buy a real tube amp 1w, put a mic in front of it and you are ready. You can hear the lack of dynamics ....for example...after 24:30 It gets so tiring listening to it. So, I don't like it...but that's just me.😉
They are two slightly different things! Amplitube gives you tons of effects and interesting routing options…ToneX is pretty much only amp and cabinet simulation! I think they work really well together…ToneX integration in Amplitube is getting better and better too with updates! Best option is to get the free basic versions of both to check them out for yourself…both free versions have a LOT of awesome stuff in it!!
it may just be me, and my bastard ears, but these tones sound all very consistently with what i've heard on ik's own demos, which is just horrible. i see all these praises, and it's true that they do feel more natural than amplitube, but i seriously doubt it that someone could use any of these tones, as they are, in their songs, and i strongly suggest that people try it before all the praise. i've tried it, and it doesn't look good. and that's after hours of tweaking what should have been an already good sounding amp, out of the capture. the level of harshness combined, uncannily, with a muffled attack on drive, and with the mud, and the torn distortion, instead of smooth rasp, it's just really bad. i'd have gone directly with the idea that tonex is a big disappointment, but, paradoxically, i've heard some great captures on the web by some other dudes, and those really sound awesome. so that paradoxically saves tonex, for me - clearly the technology can deliver, but there's just something so off with ik's captures that it's scary - which i hope they fix in time. your video confirms these findings.
