Usman will still take Leon down more than the reverse and it will still NOT be enough to overwhelm him, as a TECHNICAL and a TACTICAL approach.
Usman will have to do more than just taking Leon down, it is clear, if he wants to do a fight ending against the younger, taller, faster, more agile, and more athletic Leon. A sub, a one-punch/one-kick KO, etc.
But Usman is 36 plus, even slower and less agile, and more injured, than the last time they met. Leon is more prime than last year; more skilled, more confident; and he's the champ who knows he could do a fight ending result against the big, powerful wrestler in front of him. He knows he could take Usman down and take his back, at the right opportunity.
His recent promotion to being a black belt simply meant Leon is now a legit BJJ elite. But he knows even the ground, even from an inferior position, under the giant muscled wrestler, he could protect himself.
Both will fight at Sea Level, so Usman's ~5,000ft high Colorado-Utah altitude training wouldn't be an asset of his over Leon.
Around 80% of all fans and MMA fighters also thought Usman would run through Leon in their second fight.... like this time, their third. But the ODDS have arisen AGAINST that reality, even as they don't know it.
Or, as the up and comer Jack Della Madellana said, great as Usman was, he is of the past.
You don't become champ by overwhelming peaking younger elites in your late 30s in divisions from 185 on down. Speed, agility, techniques, and muscle reflexes combined play too much of a probability, in winning and in losing.... unlike at LW or HW, where you could be slower and less athletic and still do one-punch KO, like Derreck Lewis or Tai or Ngannou.
This reminds me of Pena Nunes was a fluke win Usman wins 9-10 times
I knew Peña was not better than Nunes when they had first fought and Nunes loss. Nunes threw the fvck out that fight when they fought the first time

I’ll take Leon with those odds. Watch that fight again, Usman got tired in the 5th as he was unable to keep the fight on the ground. Leon wasn’t as tired n the kick came.
It seemed like Usman Broke Leon as his takedowns came easier and easier. Leon seemed lost. But Leon seemed to get new life after his coach screamed at him during the break after 4th. It was crazy!
Both fighters now know each other very well. I think Leon has gained new confidence now that he knows he can handle the best Usman.
And Still…..
Usman was still piecing him up throughout the fight. It doesn't matter how much confidence he has it will be hard to improve his skillset. Usman is by far the better fighter. Now if Usman is not mentally in a good space he will probably lose but we know that Usman is pretty solid mentally. We'll see

I think Edwards has the mental advantage. Usman said going into the rematch, that Leon is dangerous because you can't break him and he keeps coming back, and then he did exactly that and confirmed Usman's fears. This time I believe Usman not only respects him but carries that fear.
Usman is still the favourite, but Leon can very likely pull it off again!!!

I got Leon. All. Day. He’s the better grappler, not wrestler. But alot of the takedowns came because Leon was gassed. At regular altitude, Leon will have all of the skill advantages to go out there and win a 49-46 decision.
I think the fight happening in the United Kingdom might give Edwards a morale boost too. Fighting in front of his home country fans will likely spark him.

Usman does not have to make any adjustments he was winning the fight easy and was fighting a great fight he was aggresive fighting with forward pressure combining strikes with wrestling, he jsut moved his head 2 inches get real guys nothing to change.

Kamaru is the favorite going into this fight and for good reason. We all know what he's capable of and we all saw how well he performed in the first fight up until the head kick that shocked the entire globe. But honestly, after seeing Usman vs. Edwards 1, and after seeing Nunes get ended by Peña, and Adesanya get KO'd by Pereira, and Shevchenko get choked out by Grasso, I really can't feel certain of anything anymore. Fighters being the favorite seems to be a bit of a curse at this point in time.

When someone knocks you the fuck out. It changes your mentality and the other fighters. No high altitude and Leon was scared of him in the 2nd fight. This 3rd fight Leon wins a decision easily.
I think Usman is more likely to win than Edwards, but at the same time there's some mitigating factors at play. Like Cyril Gane pointed out, the fight is taking place in the UK, and home turf might give Rocky a morale boost. Also it's at lower altitude and we know that the height of the last match caused Leon to exhaust himself a lot faster than he ordinarily would have. Also, the Nigerian Nightmare is getting older and we all know how horribly damaged his knees are. Everybody has heard the stories of how he has to walk down the stairs backwards and he can't tread on concrete or asphalt because it hurts his knees so badly. If I were to bet money on this fight, I'd probably bet it on Usman, but I wouldn't be terribly confident in that bet. I think Edwards is a very dangerous underdog.
I see this being a direct replay of Yan vs Sterling. Usman beat his ass until he didn't, and then Leon makes adjustments and cruises to a close decision victory despite it being so one sided in the first fight (first title fight, obviously, second fight between the two).

I hear a lot of people using the phrase "until he got caught". Yes it can happen to anyone. That's the nature of the sport. However, try to remember: "until he got caught" = until he was finished. He didn't just get caught. He got KO'd. I just don't like people implying Edwards got lucky. It is completely ignorant to suggest a guy who's specialty is striking "got lucky" with a KO head kick. The stats suggest Usman is slightly better, but stats don't tell the whole story, and I can say with confidence that once you've been KO'd like that, it makes you more susceptible to being KO'd again. In the ring, Usman is a very busy guy and pushes the pace. He's in the top ten for total strikes landed, but he couldn't put Leon away. He is quoted as saying that he would not be satisfied with a decision, so he was going for a finish in the 5th. That's how he "got caught". He could have tried to coast the 5th, but his pressure is the backbone of his defence. Yes, if that was a 3 round fight, Usman takes it. ...but it wasn't and he didn't.

Up and coming #14 Jack Della Madallena of Australia was one of the VERY FEW fighters who actually has a very succinct but totally sound and logical assessment of the Usman-Leon situation.
Unlike all the other silly one-liners on UA-cam who just yap and regurgitate BS others yap about, Jack said: "Usman has been."
In other words, it's not that Usman was not great. At 35 years of age and older, it is VERY HARD for him or Colby or Burns or Jorge or any other to win against peaking guys like Leon, Shavkat, Khamzat et al. who are just as good, as as big, if not bigger and taller, but who are much faster, more agile, and more athletic...
In fact, stats show that in only 2 out of 28 fights, that someone 35 years of age or older, was able to win the belt against a prime opponent, from divisions 170 down to 125, at the UFC.
