Glad to see the new longer trains coming. The green line can get so crowded! Level boarding awesome for wheelchair users and great for speeding up boarding, too.
The new trains SUCK they have actually LESS SPACE, you cant get an individual seat like you could with the TYPE 7's you can't look out the windows the windows face forward so you are forced to see another person inf ront of you blocking the view and you cant even put your feet ont he grund they are elevated foot rests. RIDICULOUS! This is th eservice we get....KEEP THE TYPE 7's the type 7s were just fine you could look out the windows when the train was above ground now you cant look out the window. No individual seating anymore :-( now we're all going to be crammed against each other like sardines even more. Nice job MBTA. for ruining what was working fine.
While a long overdue update is def. good news, I feel like the minds of these 2 would explode if they try out the trains in Asia + the EU. But per usual, baby steps toward progress ... 😩
So glad to see these new cars. Most importantly, these cars unlike the problematic Red Line cars are not being produced by the CCP’s state owned upstart CRRC but by a century old European based manufacturer.
Really neat they are asking for feedback from the public prior to production. As it should be.. and rarely is. Using public feedback to help design public infrastructure
Standing room only! Why have windows when everyone will be facing inwards? At least the handful of riders (un)lucky enough to get a seat. The only view you will have is someone's backside standing in front of you. No one wants to sit sideways, the Type 7s are noisy but far more comfortable. But doesnt look like that will be much of a problem since they only put a handful of seats on the train. Standing all the way from Government to Riverside, yay! Less comfort and more standing and the occasional sleeping commuter stretched out on the bench seating on a crowded ride home on Friddays...
I'm done with the green line. I'll walk. - or take an uber. - enough is enough the TYPE 7s were just fine . You cant even see otu the windows on the new trains I liked the type 7s I could get on in medofrd have a seat to myself and look out the window they should have just updated the type 7's and made them ADA Accessible instead of rolling out these ridiculous trains
Hm, too bad we only had two days to preview them. I’m seeing this 16 hours after it was posted which means it was probably a Monday broadcast, and so the preview is over now?
Good news. The Boston and the MBTA are working on a redesign of Huntington with dedicated transitway. So we'll get elevated platforms. Plan is to have it done in 2027 to allow new type 10 trains to run on the E branch. Final design due this fall. Looks like it will also be much safer, since you won't have to step off trolley and into traffic. The 39 and 66 busses will be able to use the transitway, too.
I think the Breda Type 8 and the Type 9 trolleys should have low floors all the way through for an upgrade and also their bridge plates should go all the way to the ground without having a raised platform.
How about a line connecting all the outer terminals outbound in order to facilitate emergency streetcars in case of a crash or derailment? It will lessen the time for replacement streetcars.
They need to KEEP THE TYPE 7's so we can still SEE OUT THE WINDOWS and have individual seats I'm going to be avoiding the green line and just walk int he warmer months. These new trains are AWFUL they are SMALLER and you cant even see out the windows.
Not much notice of when this was going to be available to the public, so I already missed it. And this video does a remarkably poor job of showing what the inside actually looks like -- had to get almost 40% of the way through to see the windows (but lots of footage of the floor and of the interview), and the windows are rather small for the size of each segment. I do see that the Type 10s are going to have hard and uncomfortable seats similar to what the Type 9s have. It is also concerning that the manufacturer is the same (CAF) as for the Type 9s, which have not exactly had prize-winning reliability.
I'm baffled at the positivity expressed about these cars. Volumetrically, they look like sardine cans; objectively worse than what currently exists. All they've done is gone into the direction of an extra narrow, extra cramped, more aesthetically mind-numbing red line style of train. At the very least, the tiered and segmented seating allowed for more elbow space and personal privacy. With this, it's crystal clear that they're trying to cram as many human bodies in as little space as they can get away with. Yet another showing of how the MBTA moves three steps backwards and one step forward. It's incapable of anything else.
Am I delusional or does it seem too cramped like too narrow🙄🤷🏽♀️NOT enough space for a packed train, And those pay boxes off to the side do they REALLY THINK ANYONE will use a card to tap it😂😂🙄🙄🙄I DONT THINK SO if three people or more all get on at once it’ll be so easy to just walk in and sit down and what is the purpose of these new pay boxes anyway will they get rid of the real big walk through pay gates I DONT THINK SO 🤷🏽♀️🙄🙄So what is the point of these smaller boxes inside the car I don’t get it Also if they make a new green line they should make it for the red and orange line as well🙄🙄Since the Subways are CONSTANTLY BREAKING DOWN🤬🤬🙄🙄🙄 And and I bet anyone a million bucks one these new trains come out within 10 years they will start shitting the bed🙄🙄🤦🏽♀️
@@HSetonNotesthat was the style years ago and so much usable space was lost with the stairs. Also anytime the train did a hard brake the people standing on the stairs would fall into the people on the lower level near the doors. It was terrible.

These the Italian ones?
Not from Ansaldo Breda (now Hitachi Rail Italy), but from CAF, which is Spanish
Europeans know how to build these wout issues such as union politics, union ghost jobs and payrolls, nepotism, low quality and delayed delivery dates.
The Type 9s have not exactly earned a reputation for reliability . . . that's not a good omen for the Type 10s.

@ That would require the removal of street parking and somehow accommodate for bikes. Should be interesting
Bostans will love this. : )
Nice redesign the question is it a reliable one
I hope these ones wont spontaneously combust like the current ones do almost weekly

Honestly the is just ok not even 10 yards away from the former thats in twrms of design but feature wise its fantastic. 7 cars instead of 3
Wow trains have a stop button, don't stop all along the route?
It's a low floor trolley
Remeber when that orange line train had an imprompto viking funeral in cambridge last year. peprigefarms remembers
A total of 20 seats good job for a train coming out in 3 years

Long overdue, but I guess 1 part of 100 of much needed repairs and upgrades for the T.

More people standing than sitting..
So "riders" (hopefully "paying" riders), CAN be PACKED IN like sardines in a can .... $$$$$$ Good the "T" bad for the riders .... 🤔
Name a single metro that doesn't do that.

Narrow is what you get with 100% low floor cars. The wheels need to go somewhere.
Interesting. Maybe they shouldn’t try to make the whole thing low floor then. I enjoy how some seats felt higher up.
