Roomba dog poop incident. Disassembling and cleaning a iRobot Roomba e5 so it can clean another day

- Dog poop and iRobot Roomba's DO NOT play well together. Y'all have heard the humorous anecdote about the roomba running over dog poop, well, after living it first hand, I can tell you, theres ZERO humor to it.
Take a ride with me where I demonstrate how to get your roomba e5 apart and put back together so it will work like nothing ever happened. Although, you’ll still have the haunting memories.
Aside from needing to clean dog poop off of, and out of, it, this is a demonstration on how to regularly clean your roomba so it works just like it's brand new.
All you'll need is a phillips screwdriver , two hands, a flat surface and about 15 minutes, once you see how easy it is to do.
This will help you to clean as preventive maintenance so your Roomba will clean like it's supposed to.

I am typing this in tears. I don’t mean to sound dramatic, but it’s been a horrible rotten day and I put my roomba on to help me out. That’s when I smelt it. The dog 💩. I also don’t know why this emoji is smiling because it’s not funny. Well maybe a little. I lost it when I lifted my beloved Roomba up. Full blown ugly cry. I cried and then pulled myself up and decided to UA-cam a solution. I typed in, “how to take your roomba apart because it picked up dog shit”. Your video was the first to pop up. I cannot thank you enough. I watched the whole video and got the whole thing disassembled and cleaned. I cried through the whole process. I just wanted to come on here and thank you for making this video. I believe that tonight you are an angel sent from above. I know there’s a good lesson in here. Shit happens and when all else fails UA-cam...and I feel empowered and I feel like an engineer. This is a very long winded way of saying thank you. And I hope you are laughing. 😂

I am laughing, a bit, because mainly, I remember thinking to myself, you hear about this happening but never think it’ll happen to you when we had it happen. THANK YOU FOR THIS. I awoke to find a vicious battle between Roomba and Cat Barf had taken place in my living room today, and Cat Barf won. I really didn't feel like waiting until my husband got home from work to clean it, but I barely know the difference between a flathead and phillips head screwdriver : - ) This video was so clear and helpful that even someone like me was able to disassemble the Roomba, clean out every speck of cat barf, and put it back together. Roomba is happy and will now only run during the daytime when I can keep a watchful eye on it.

A thousand times, thank you for such a clear calm video for those of us in a state of pure grief and fury! I felt so confident taking it apart! Iust wish the wheels were actually removable. I think up in there is the source of the faint whiff I still get. I used skewers, index cards, an old battery powered toothbrush, a roll of paper towels, and cotton swabs to clean every little space. Dog never poops in the sunroom; think he was letting me know he wasn't happy I had the doggie door shut for a while in the evening because we have a marauding bobcat in the neighborhood these days. Think I will let him take his chances next time........

Never cleaned the wheel , hair and dirt get in there and if not cleaned the wheel will not turn and May scratch the floor. It’s the little 360 spinner wheel.

Hello, thank you for the video. At first I was wondering why your Roomba is already disassembled, but when I reassembled it I saw exactly what I wanted to know. My Roomba has tried the cats ... to clean. My Roomba did not look quite as bad as yours, but the rollers had already done a great job :( Now everything is clean again and drying straight :)

Get rid of the A HOLE DOG. Fk that, dogs get fed and treated like royalty, Then their selfish behavior shows how much the appreciate you taking care of them. Yes they do know they are doing wrong. My dog acts all weird if he done something bad ,that's how I know when to look for the disasters he did. Ppl say that dogs dont know they did bed.YES THEY DO,especially when you dont even know they did something bad and the dogs acting all guilty ,so that makes you go look for what bad thing they did. THATS when I get the maddest.Because they KNOW. It's not like they crap on the floor then act normal because they dont know it was wrong. Act all weird and hid even when you dont know they did it yet. OBVIOUSLY GUILTY AND KNOWS IT. HATE DOGS.
So which parts can you get wet, soak, whatever and which do you have to be more careful with? Assembly video is helpful, sure, but completely skips over anything to do with actually cleaning the unit.
I used a dry brush to clean the wheel assemblies but washed the beater bars and such. If it had any electrical component it it I didn’t get water anywhere near it.

@bernigreene5936 yeah it’s a sincere welcome to an unwanted fraternity lol. If memory serves, correct, I shouldn’t get too wet but I sprayed the paper towel with cleaner and thoroughly wiped it down taking care to not get things too wet.

I don’t have a roomba I got the Kyvol and I’m so mad I didn’t look up a video like this BEFORE I chucked it in my dumpster. I am not climbing in there to get it out and hope it works BUT I will definitely save this video for next time. I was so upset when this happened to me this morning. The smell was so bad and the clean up process even after chucking the vacuum out was so bad because it just dug the 💩 into the floors :(

I followed the steps and cleaned it thoroughly. The roomba is clean and drives around but doesn't pick up any debris. Almost as if there is no suction power anymore. Anyone else who has this issue?

Dang I wish I was in that position! Lol I almost bought a brand new one, but I figured why not try to clean it up first. It’s so so so nasty, but it’s so wasteful to just throw away a perfectly good roomba when all I need to do is suck it up and clean it. I’ll just consider it practice for when I have kids and they have their first diaper blowout. 🤷🏻♀️
