Not really. The cradle makes finding the sweet spot easier and more reproducible. BUT it does nothing with the inherent quantization of the output. It cannot report FPS measurements to the nearest 1 FPS. So true values of (801, 802) will produce either (801, 801), or (801, 803). I can't report a value of 802. Bought one from Airguns of Utah because it was in stock, and it came with a bracket (hope you at least recovered your development costs before they put you out of business). I was attracted to its compact size, and its ability to work in any light conditions. Could not get it to work properly when strapped to a break barrel. Called dealer, and asked if the movement from the cocking action might be confusing it. Suggested trying it on a tripod, and that solved the problem. In retrospect, I could probably use it strapped on the barrel if I would turn it off each time to cock it, then back on and reconnect. That would be inconvenient, but likely more accurate because of the consistent placement, hopefully in the "sweet spot". Ran about a dozen 10-shot strings with a variety of pellets, using specific settings for each. Saved each string to clipboard and the database. When I review them, I can't determine which string is for which pellet. The name and weight of the pellet is not displayed, just the speed and energy information. Dealer was helpful, but couldn't find the solution to the app issues. Gave me distributor's contract information in North Carolina. Called at 3PM Eastern Wednesday, and got answering machine saying I had reached them after their closing time. Sent email, and awaiting reply. Still have to constantly reconnect and go through all the screens, and still can't register. Nevertheless, I still think it is going to be a good product, and it has already helped me to identify the four most promising pellets for my gun based on energy and consistency. I'd give it three stars now, with hopes for upward revisions as the app is improved.
Yes, I sold quite a few and it covered the costs until FX decided to do a cradle. Positioning is very critical to get good results, made harder with a springer.
Yet again informative review agree with all the points you have raised, I am running on iOS the App needs work to utilise the full potential of this technology. If you look at the App developer the App is available under different applications. FX need to liaise with the developer or develop their own App, yes it has been rushed to market even though delayed by about two months, hope they listen to feedback and react to the comments. Once again Steve enjoyed the video hope the cradle's fly off the shelf for you !!
A chronograph that attaches to the end of your barrel with a rubber band. Looks like a posh and more expensive combro with a couple of gimmicks added. For a bit more I'd go for a skan that will literally last a life time and I'd put money on being more accurate. Good review though Steve
Yes just like a combro. The FX unit has faults, hence why I created the cradle for those that are struggling with it. Skan are great I am told, but expensive too.
Good fair review, used your cradle and sweet spot is 4 inches back on mine, have increased the return trigger level to 40% to ensure a consistent reading. The ios app is way better and does not have the difference between voice and display , even in landscape mode...btw it eats batteries so will try rechargeable ones.
My cradle arrived today Steve and yes I like it mate a good bit of kit. If there was a way to hold the screw that would remove the one thing that could be lost. Nice one and to anyone who is thinking about buying the cradle buy it, great price and sorts out the problem Great if you hunt like I do because I can easily chronograph before each hunt. James
The idea is once the cradle is attached to the FX Radar, you don't really need to take it off. Loosen the screw to tilt the unit in the cradle to turn it on and off and then tighten again

I just placed an order for the chronograph cradle. You app issues are all with your Android phone, as I mentioned before. I have the iPhone 10, and I run the chronograph for the entire life of the battery, and not one single issue. I also get consistent reading, and hope to get even better consistency with your cradle. Like I mentioned before, that I fly I DJI Mavic Pro, and the android App couldn't handle it, it would freeze up all of the time, and always crash every time I flew my drone. It hasn't done either one of those issues since I switched to IOS. I also flew it in the Philippines on vacation, and not a single issue. I shoot my FX Impact MK II .30 caliber over the chronograph, Air Arms S510 XS .22 Caliber laminate stock, Beeman R1 Magnum .177 caliber, Benjamin Sheriden 392 .22 caliber all over the FX Chronograph with zero issues. Hope they work out the bugs for your android devise. Thanks for the creativity on the cradle, and will be waiting for mine to deliver.

Nope, tested RedWolf on 2 other chronos and perfect. It is FX Chrono that is at fault and needs to be placed in the optimum position. Where that is, is guess work..
Got a light beam Caldwell, no sweat spots to find. I was thinking of buying one until I saw this review. It seems shit, they could fix ithe app yes, but the unit seems shit as well.. Thank you for your review very in depth, but I’ll wait for the mark two, got a feeling this model won’t be around for long once people loose faith. Nice idea, nice price, but from what I’ve seen here, no thank you. Just cos your getting consistent speeds in one spot hasn’t convince me there accurate. 20 FPS difference with a UK gun can mean safe or very close to illegal. Not good. Is it 555fps or 575fps, then add 10fps, 585fps????. Not good enough.
After writing this, it got me thinking, I’ve watched quite a few chrono reviews, different makes models, inconsistency seems to be the common theme. How accurate are these chronographs? Do you check it against ballistic apps and known pellet coefficient and drop. Pellet scoring in different barrels can effect this, so that won’t work. Do you buy various different makes and average? Do you just set up the rifle well well below 12ftlbs. Or just keep loads of records to demonstrate you’ve done everything you can beyond reasonable doubt that you’ve done your best to stay legal. ?????
To answer you, there is no answer unless you take your chrono to the police and have it tested against their calibrated unit as they will the ones that will prosecute you. This is why all air rifle manufacturers send out rifles around 11.5ft/lb or less to public for wiggle room and to be safe. They have their units calibrated by officials. Once the general user / public start to play, all bets are off and you are liable. Never set your rifle to bang on 12 otherwise you run the risk if caught.
Steve Allan I think you missed my point. The difference between 11.1 and 11.95 is 20 FPS. With .22 JSB 16gr. You may think your 11.1 -560fps. But you could easily be 580 and 11.95 at 580. These chromosomes are not good enough, the 10 FPS difference between your own chronos is 1/2 a pound..
Once you find the sweet point for the FX Chrono, it is pretty good and consistent. I cannot tell whether it is correct or another chrono is as I don't have access to a truly calibrated test unit to determine. Hence why we all should be aiming for 11.5max to give wiggle room. But I take your point, it is valid but also valid for all chrono's if they are not officially calibrated. Yes the FX does have issues if not used correctly and to be honest, I will use and trust my LMBR chrono shown in the video more.

It doesn’t work, app is a crap, no usability at all, gives nothing but false readings and still you claim it is ok. You say that you trust lmbr chrono because you compared it to other chrono on the market and still after few seconds you tell us that you don’t know if you trust any chronos. It gives lowered readings! I don’t have to explain what implications it can do. It costs like it’s made of gold and the only great feature it has is that you cannot register in the app! Come on! People are not blind. I respect fx, I had few of their rifles, still own Royale - one of the greatest rifles of all time, but not every product must be a success. They should withdraw it from the market and fix it or just withdraw and stick to what they do best.
I actually state the facts about the unit and leave it to people to decide, as you can see by the mixed comments. I actually said I would add it to my collect because I can and will wait for the app to be fixed. I very clearly state the flaws of the unit, bad app, very sensitive to placement and this is very clear in the video.

@@airgunology Mine is not reading accurate either as of this post. Sometimes it reads 5 FPS faster and others it's 9FPS hotter than my Pro Chrono. The instructions to calibrate it to the club's chrono is NOT correct!! This was rushed to market and haven't a clue how to reach customer servicer as the item is NOT in the drop-down list on their website for the United States.

Yes I know. I personally would not touch one. It is not semi auto in the UK, between each shot you need to push the trigger back forward to index the next pellet. The magazine uses Sigs plastic chain system used in their pistols on that darn rachette. Pellets jam, air bottle is good for 2 or 3 shots (x20) only, mag a pain to fill and it is not accurate. But is is a Sig replica, a fun replica and only good for plinking cans in the yard. Avoid if you want something serious.
The new updated app still has bugs. iOS too. Still needs a lot of work! Still have to connect every time you do something. . It has a calibration button but no instructions on how to use it. Hope they fix it
Steve Allan hi Steve yes it’s on the top left as you are looking at power button it flips out using your thumb nail,it folds out at 90 degrees that’s why I think it’s for a spirit level
Over and above the app comments which are fixable eventually I fear that even with the cradle you never really know if its in the right place and hence never actually know if its giving you true values. Thus absolutely no use if you are then plugging the data into Strelok or similar and more worrying you could easily wind up on the wrong side of 12ftlb. Your test showed 680(9ftlb approx) to 720(10ftlb approx), assuming 8.4jsb, depending on position that level of variation is enough for deep doo if you are up near the limit and thats the difference between hitting and missing at anything more than 20m past your zero range.(@45m with zero of 25m thats .4 mil variation).
The test was using 10.25 grain .177 pellets and as said in the video and fx day the same, you need to get the sweet spot, hence the cradle, otherwise it will vary wildly. Would I use it over my normal LMBR cradle, no, but I will keep this one for reviews and spot checks at the range as it is so small.
Steve Allan yea they did a update but it didn't fix anything. I don't know what it did either can't tell! It still isn't a good app. When changing any of the info on the profiles you have to change things in a certain order or it will reset what you've changed, like if you change the name then change anything else the name resets. And the some of the settings are backwards. Like the radar return the lowest setting is the highest sensitivity, makes no sense.
I think the variation in FPS is due to your unregulated gun. If you shot a regulated gun then you get consistent pressure. I don't think the huge change in FPS has anything to do with the chronograph.
I'm fed up with this piece of crap. Works great on something .60 cal or bigger but .25 cal pellets not so good, three shots and it quits reading. Pisses me off!
yup hot topic at the moment this Chrono and many people have asked for my honest and truth impressions of it. Also helps that I am plugging my 3D cradle too :)
Wish I had bought something better the apps are crap got the cradle could have had better design for putting elastic bands on the one side is not wide enough to keep the. Band on sooner thefx change software the better not as accurate as most of chronos can vary by a foot per lb
They are FULL of bugs. If you want to fiddle with it for hours and put shims, and change the angle fine. Also disconnecting every 5 minutes sucks and it does! My biggest pet peeve is that it can't read high speed shots. Tops out at around 1300 FPS and my guns move at around 1650 at 80 ft lbs. and it those kind of speeds can't be read by this low tech crono. THAT SUCKS!! One more reason I should have got a normal crono for a powder rifle since they work 99.99999% of the time and can read a 3200 FT PER SEC. gun powder bullet too. The FX is ONLY for air gunners,,, who like fixing lots of bugs,,,.
Nice video! But, even taking into account that the app has bugs, what a CRAPPY PRODUCT. First of all, what certified genius at FX allowed that APP performance to see the light of day? Pathetic. And, as has been documented elsewhere, the device itself, even on iOS without those pathetic bugs shown on the Android version, is quite dodgy. For example, when compared head to head with a Caldwell unit with BOTH devices active on each shot, the FX chronograph shows that it cannot represent values that are only 1 FPS apart. In other words, the velocities recorded are severely quantized. If you fire 50 shots with the FX, you might get results that are somewhat reproducible. But for short strings, I would not trust it.

The grooves on the top of the unit are there to rest the barrel on.

How do I know if the gun is inconsistent, or the Chronograph is positioned wrong, not very impressed, don't thing it's ready for sale
You don't, that is the problem and why you need to ensure you use a cradle and place it in the same place on the barrel each time.
This will surely replace/displace my beloved combro cb625...too bad. Of couse combro could come out with an app?

@@airgunology Mine is not reading accurate either as of this post. Sometimes it reads 5 FPS faster and others it's 9FPS hotter than my Pro Chrono. The instructions to calibrate it to the club's chrono is NOT correct!! This was rushed to market and haven't a clue how to reach customer servicer as the item is NOT in the drop-down list on their website for the United States.
Tim Swan I have no other chrono to compare it to?! I bought this for my Gamo swarm whisper 🤷♂️. I have a Sig ASP20 on the way, no PCP’s yet

Yes I know. I personally would not touch one. It is not semi auto in the UK, between each shot you need to push the trigger back forward to index the next pellet. The magazine uses Sigs plastic chain system used in their pistols on that darn rachette. Pellets jam, air bottle is good for 2 or 3 shots (x20) only, mag a pain to fill and it is not accurate. But is is a Sig replica, a fun replica and only good for plinking cans in the yard. Avoid if you want something serious.
I wouldn't trust this piece of kit! You should shoot for fingers with a calibrated decibel meter to see how load you scream LOL! 3D printed bandages?

The new updated app still has bugs. iOS too. Still needs a lot of work! Still have to connect every time you do something. . It has a calibration button but no instructions on how to use it. Hope they fix it

Steve Allan hi Steve yes it’s on the top left as you are looking at power button it flips out using your thumb nail,it folds out at 90 degrees that’s why I think it’s for a spirit level

Over and above the app comments which are fixable eventually I fear that even with the cradle you never really know if its in the right place and hence never actually know if its giving you true values. Thus absolutely no use if you are then plugging the data into Strelok or similar and more worrying you could easily wind up on the wrong side of 12ftlb. Your test showed 680(9ftlb approx) to 720(10ftlb approx), assuming 8.4jsb, depending on position that level of variation is enough for deep doo if you are up near the limit and thats the difference between hitting and missing at anything more than 20m past your zero range.(@45m with zero of 25m thats .4 mil variation).
Totally agree it's just potluck. It's never going to be right until you get a fixed data point for every rifle on the market.
The test was using 10.25 grain .177 pellets and as said in the video and fx day the same, you need to get the sweet spot, hence the cradle, otherwise it will vary wildly. Would I use it over my normal LMBR cradle, no, but I will keep this one for reviews and spot checks at the range as it is so small.
Great chrono but the Apple app sucks! Don't think the app is the same as what FX shows on their support page either. How about an update?
I heard it has been updated, check your iPhone update for the App. I don't have the chrono anymore or an iPhone so can't check
Steve Allan yea they did a update but it didn't fix anything. I don't know what it did either can't tell! It still isn't a good app. When changing any of the info on the profiles you have to change things in a certain order or it will reset what you've changed, like if you change the name then change anything else the name resets. And the some of the settings are backwards. Like the radar return the lowest setting is the highest sensitivity, makes no sense.
I think the variation in FPS is due to your unregulated gun. If you shot a regulated gun then you get consistent pressure. I don't think the huge change in FPS has anything to do with the chronograph.

Yup, FX bought a company to get this unit under their brand. It could well have been them.
I'm fed up with this piece of crap. Works great on something .60 cal or bigger but .25 cal pellets not so good, three shots and it quits reading. Pisses me off!

Wish I had bought something better the apps are crap got the cradle could have had better design for putting elastic bands on the one side is not wide enough to keep the. Band on sooner thefx change software the better not as accurate as most of chronos can vary by a foot per lb

They are FULL of bugs. If you want to fiddle with it for hours and put shims, and change the angle fine. Also disconnecting every 5 minutes sucks and it does! My biggest pet peeve is that it can't read high speed shots. Tops out at around 1300 FPS and my guns move at around 1650 at 80 ft lbs. and it those kind of speeds can't be read by this low tech crono. THAT SUCKS!! One more reason I should have got a normal crono for a powder rifle since they work 99.99999% of the time and can read a 3200 FT PER SEC. gun powder bullet too. The FX is ONLY for air gunners,,, who like fixing lots of bugs,,,.

Nice video! But, even taking into account that the app has bugs, what a CRAPPY PRODUCT. First of all, what certified genius at FX allowed that APP performance to see the light of day? Pathetic. And, as has been documented elsewhere, the device itself, even on iOS without those pathetic bugs shown on the Android version, is quite dodgy. For example, when compared head to head with a Caldwell unit with BOTH devices active on each shot, the FX chronograph shows that it cannot represent values that are only 1 FPS apart. In other words, the velocities recorded are severely quantized. If you fire 50 shots with the FX, you might get results that are somewhat reproducible. But for short strings, I would not trust it.
