I feel the same way, we’ve gone way over the top in comfort dressing. I was discussing comfort dressing with my doctor. She said that it’s crazy for people to be at a professional appointment in pj’s. Her waiting room was full of women wearing sweats or pajama bottoms.
Getting dressed is also very important because it encourages movement, going out, walking! If I stay in my slouchy house clothes I find that I don't want to go out and I tend to eat more too. No elasticated waists or stretchy dresses for me as they encourage overeating. I look up to my lovely Italian grandma who always wore tailored clothes at home (there was nothing else in the 70s for older people and people in general). When I have a shower and get dressed I want to go out, explore other interests, meet people, it's so good for my mood and wellbeing.
In my early 70s, I live in Sicily and go out every morning - on foot or on the bicycle depending on how far I have to go. My wardrobe contains a selection of trousers: denim, leather and corduroy. For contrast, thick sweaters, velvet blazers and leather bikers. My boyfriend who lives 1000 miles away gets a selfie of each outfit and scores me out of 10 😅
I wish your Models were the Age you are describing!!! Unfortunately at 70+ it’s just a memory!! with your Models; but your information is very much appreciated and it is helping me focus on trying to feel stylish!!! Thank you❤
@@DebCray I get that and unfortunately they’re just are not enough models in that age range for me to choose from. I spent hours searching for models in the different age ranges, but the options are very limited. So glad you enjoyed the tips!
I was in my seventies yesterday, today eighty. You are so right on! I’m following your suggestions right now at last nights bday party, and Saturday for a family party in a restaurant. Cool great grandmother. Thanks Nada for confirming my choices.
"Not a cardigan, but a jacket" - well said Nada, I've built up a great collection of jackets and blazers to elevate my jeans/corduroy bottoms, graphic Ts, etc.
So many great ideas for all ages! I bought some expensive cognac boots on a whim and never wear them - hadn’t thought to wear them with my white pants! 🤯 I may wear them tomorrow!
I feel that cognac leather items go with most colours. Great in winter with black, navy, charcoal grey or burgundy. Also lovely with white, cream and pastels in warmer months.
Love this, Nada! Most stylists recommend staying away from standout pieces, just focus on elevated basics. Your approach is so much more fun and confidence-boosting. Also love the emphasis on higher-end handbags, shoes, etc. Great sunglasses add so much. Sometimes older women complain of feeling invisible. Well, sometimes they have let that happen to themselves. No need. Keep the great tips coming! PS I also love Vince for modern classics.
I so agree with you Nada about making an effort and getting dressed in your tailored basics for trips to the supermarket, etc. or elevating our outfits for outings to classier places like visiting an art gallery with friends. I dress for myself, but I find that when I put together a great outfit, somebody always notices, for example a neighbour, someone I meet in a professional capacity, strangers in my local shopping mall, frenemies! I am 58 and have been getting admiring glances, smiles and comments from younger people, which I consider a great compliment, especially since I always wear neutrals so nothing to attract attention, but it's the small details that make a big difference, accessories, a simple but flattering hairstyle, my Celine Triomphe sunglasses and Moscot prescription glasses. I feel better than when I was 20, 30, 40, I've finally learnt how to look my best and reflect my taste and personality. I'm treating myself to better quality clothes these days. If I step into H&M, I find everything so cheap and rubbishy, apart from their denim shirts and wide leg jeans, nothing appeals to me there. Massimo Dutti is my go-to now for great quality that is not too expensive, and I buy basics from Marks & Spencer's (they ship worldwide, their jeans and thermal tops, which you can wear as an ordinary tops, are excellent imo). Zara have made some great quality suede jackets lately, but I buy from them and Mango with caution because the quality is variable. I always check the composition of a sweater, blazer, etc. and try to avoid synthetic fabrics.
These videos are sooo important for us to see! Thank you for all your work. I have one request for a simple change to your example pictures. It could just be my screen, but when the outfit has a white or lighter color item in the outfit combination picture, it does not show up well. In fact, it is invisible most of the time. Could you perhaps try a darker background on those examples? I learn so much from each of your videos and so enjoy your helpful commentating on it all. I'm inspired!!
Thank you Nada. As a woman in my 70s I did appreciate this video. I wish I had access to all those fabulous brands. I appreciate all you do. You certainly work hard
My husband says the same thing I tell him something like, I’m going to read in the living room today or I’m going to cook a fancy dinner. He’s stopped asking most of the time and just tells me I look nice or put together.
Good morning Nada!! I really enjoyed this video, I often struggle on what to wear, I either have super dressy outfits or really dress down outfits that in my eyes aren’t really dressed down…..I’ll explain….I love my medium wash Levi’s, not high waisted exactly and they are what I would call boot cut. They fit me perfectly which for a start was a great big win, I have shorter legs, longer torso with a smaller waist and a bubble bum so not the easiest to fit lol. I have a great selection of beautiful sweaters so my “uniform” is generally these jeans, a lovely cashmere sweater, brown leather ankle boots, my jewellery is lovely I think, I have an armful of gold bangles I’ve worn for 40+ years, a Tiffany diamond by the yard necklace and a Chanel watch, these things are every day items that I just add to as a change up. I guess I’m just not used to deciding what to wear, as a retired nurse I lived in real “uniforms” for my whole life so I never needed much in the way of real clothes lol but I’m trying….so many thanks for all the ideas and tips!! Have a great day and upcoming weekend ♥️ ♥️ Tina ♥️
Tina, it sounds like you've found a great combination with jeans that flatter you and beautiful sweaters, so just buy more of these. In winter upgrade jeans to corduroy or velvet to keep warm. Have trousers/jeans altered if need be.
So many ladies decide that 70's is a time to toss the idea of styling. I noticed that the young people are sometimes a little mocking like "Ma'am do you need help finding your car?" It's kind of mean. That's a time to be happy you look put together and not trying to rock a pair of Daisy Dukes and a bra top. Let them have that one.
Just turned 70, enjoying my style so much! My favorite designers are Alison Izu, based in Hawaii, combined with Eileen Fisher pieces. Both have styles for petites, and I think they are classic, elegant and have potential to be fun too! I still color my hair to a soft, light blonde so I love camel, ivory, pink and coral. Navy and charcoal are my dark neutrals. Love the idea of a signature style--honing in on that after taking Nada's closet bootcamp course! Great video!
After 50, I think we should be wary of top-to-bottom ladylike or vintage outfits as they date us. Just wear one dressy/vintage piece and dress it down. I can't even wear lady jackets unless they have frayed hems, so they look modern, and no gold buttons for me either, they make me look too classic and old, I prefer no buttons or horn buttons. Jewellery - I love vintage chains and charms in gold or silver and I mix my metals for a younger, more effortless look. I prefer silver hardware on handbags, belts, shoes, I find gold hardware too ladylike and ageing. No pearls for me either.
Hey! Thanks for the comment. Pick your favorite color, of course. I was just encouraging women to stop leaning so heavily on black esp if it's not their best color. And I actually think jewel tones are gorgeous on a dark or true autumn. :) www.shopcolorbook.com/dark-autumn

Happy belated birthday. Today Feb 1st is mine. So happy to know other older women dress stylish, I love it.
No jewel tones for me, but navy, denim, browns and mid-greys look good on me, and I mix & match them too.

Agree with all of this, with one exception: H&M Premium has some very stylish things with good fabrics. Also COS.

For shoes in the UK I recommend Dune, Hobbs and John Lewis
