Two Fighter Jets Face Off in a Spectacular Night Battle - Part 2!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- Operation Allied Force was a NATO campaign against Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Essentially, those were the remaining two republics of a former federation, Serbia and Montenegro led by Slobodan Milošević.
On 24 March 1999, two large strike groups header for Serbian airspace. One of them focused on the north of the country and its strikers were stealth F-117s. Their air cover consisted of F-15s led by Captain Mike 'Dozer' Shower. Upon arriving on their CAP station, Dozer's flight would meet resistance in the form of Serbian MiG-29s. Two pilots, Nebojša Nikolić and Ljubiša Kulačin took off from Batajnica airbase near Belgrade and confronted the NATO fighters. While it is well known that Serbian aircraft were facing many challenges with unreliability, in this video you will see that NATO had its own share of problems, not only of technical nature but also lack of experience and poor planning.
This DCS Wold reenactment is a follow-up of a video made quite a while ago in which we focused on the southern group. Now, you will be able to see what was happening in the north.

So close and so unknown air conflict, Thx for this great job
Thank you for this feedback. The conflict deserves some more attention.

That 'View from the other side' is the best feature of your videos. Not many content creators on you tube and in DCS are willing to do the in depth research required to acquire enough data to produce such an accurate, nuanced multi-view perspective. 🤜💥🤛

Watching the F-15 fighting the Mig -29 is like watching 2 super Hot Chicks throwing Chingasos!! Yeeehaw!!
I've never thought of such analogy. Dogfight like a chick fight 😁
If United States sells the F-15s and Super Hornets to Bosnia and Herzegovina, rest assured we won't be so soft-triggered.
serbs might’ve had a chance if yugoslavia chose the proposed Mirage M2000 over the mig-29 but the mirages were too expensive and yugoslavs were investing in the “Novi Avion” (proposed yugoslav-made fighter jet which never got into production because of the yugoslav wars) and there was also a time where yugoslavia was supposed to buy mirage III aircraft but because of yugoslavia’s anti-imperialist stance on the algerian war, mig-21 were bought and yugoslavia started buying soviet military equipment since
Mirage 2000 might have made some difference but probably not significant as they also only had semi-active RH missiles and would have also been difficult to maintain under the sanctions (likely even more). I have to say I didn't know that Mirage III was considered for purchase at that time. The French are usually not too fussy about politics when they sell their weapon systems :)
@@showtime112 MiG-29s are Russian jets, Russia had no sanctions on Serbia.
What sanctions have stopped the MiG-29 servicing? Except few unqualified and lazy mechanics.
After arresting and firing Bosniak pilots and mechanics (because they were Muslims obviously), they were left with fat Nebojsa and blind Ljubisa.
There were no Yugoslavs anymore after Slobodan Milošević came to power. And such was the outcome.

Hey Showtime 112, thanks for another great reenactment of the air war over Yugoslavia. I really enjoyed watching your videos.
I’m just wondering if you could produce a video on the shooting down of Lt. Col Goldfein in his F-16, and Lt. Col Zelko in his F-117
The former later became the Air Force Chief of Staff, and the latter befriended his nemesis who shot down his stealth aircraft.
Would be a great story to tell on how they were targetted by the Serbs and how they evaded capture behind enemy lines.

No. The F-14's replay track in DCS doesn't work at all so it is very hard to do any videos with it.
And that’s why you should always train for the dogfight, technology can fail.
True. And not just technology, but the circumstances in general. Especially, RoE can make things complicated.
Yes when they were throwing cluster munition on Bosnian cities, Serbian MiGs worked perfectly.
Sanctions apparently work. They might be slow but they have an effect (clearly demonstrated by the state of FRY's Air Force in the late 1990s).
@@showtime112 *they have destroyed many of the Yugoslavian airbases and arrested many Bosniak pilots and mechanics and were left with fat Nebojsa only.*

jel ovaj skin za 29 custom?
Je. Ima ga za skinuti, na jednom sam samo "prekucao" serijcki broj da bude povijenso dočan.
As usual, great video with both high cinematic & historical quality. Plus, this one in particular was extremely enlightening regarding issues involving equipment glitch/failure. I am constantly astounded at the manner in which an increasingly annoying cascade of seemingly minor problems can result in uncleared missions and sometimes death -- "my radar is unresponsive," and "damn radio doesn't work!" & "...f*@q+#*g IFF won't work now? What next?”......
Far too many times this leads to
_"Remember that last Mig? Yeah? You Do? So do I, he's the one I couldn't ID because my IFF took a crap, and you couldn't tell me you ID'd him as hostile BECAUSE YOUR RADIO TOOK ANOTHER CRAP AAARRGGH!!...so he bombed our airport & we couldn't land, so we went bingo, couldn't make it to the tanker, AND there was no blue airport close enough for us to even deadstick it in, so we crashed! Next time our maintainers ask us to do something, we damn well better DO THAT SHIT!!"_
K, I got carried away lol, but still, that is essentially the ugly truth behind any military effort, whether defensive or offensive, in which the cascading effect of multiple glitches and equipment failures can result in catastrophic failure of an entire campaign.
Sobering.
But great content man. You're one of the few channels on DCS that often explores such matters through the use of carefully crafted DCS simulations.
Thanks for this detailed evaluation! :) Very often, I choose a topic based on same general description and when I start to research, there's so many interesting details there which I was completely unaware of.
What sanctions were imposed on Serbia in the 90s? MiG is RUSSIAN CORPORATION and I don't remember Russia putting any sanctions on them.
It's quite impossible that Russia didn't wanted to upgrade and upkeep Serbian MiGs.
Serbia under Embargo was a myth.
After attack on the rest of the Yugoslavian Republics, namely Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia was left without over 80% of qualified personnel that comprised the Yugoslavian Air Force, including the companies who repaired those MiGs, mechanics and qualified pilots who flew the MiGs.
im thinking of getting into dcs with a i5 11400 and a rtx 3060ti and i will be flying the f14. Do you think that will be enough for me to play high settings with no fps stutter
How much ram do you have?
It's hard to say because I don't have this exact configuration. I can tell you that F-14 is probably the most resource hungry module in DCS. And yes, you should have at least 16GB of RAM.
There was a 4th MiG-29 downed that night for unknown reasons, possibly malfunction or Serbian SAM
Officially, three. Plus two more on the 26th and one weeks later.

i would rather just no commentary and just let the video speak for itself
I couldn't speak enough. There's no way the situation could be explained without talking.
How come the MiGs just never seem to get a lock... fist missiles are fired almost without any manouvering by the F15s in these videos
Well, in this case these aircraft were not maintained very well and sometimes, their radars barely worked. Plus, Americans usually employ some kind of ECM which further reduces the capabilities of their opponents. And the AAMs that MiGs carried had a much shorter range than what NATO had at the time.
@@showtime112 makes sense
Maby due to jamming of radars and electronic countermesures Serbians tought that they where fighting 24 aircraft.
Because 8 aircraft apered as 24.
It is a possibility
After attacking other Yugoslavian Republics, especially Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbian Air Force was cut to under 20% of the former Yugoslavian Air Force.
Sanctions had nothing to do with it as 99.9% of Yugoslavian fighter jets were Russian MiGs and Russia had no sanctions on Serbia.
The rest of the "fighter or strike jets" were Made In Bosnia and the rest was serviced in Bosnia and flown by Bosnian pilots who were killed or fired because of their obvious religion.
So Serboslavia was left with lazy mechanic Gojko, fat pilot Nebojsa and blind pilot Ljubisa.
Not sure who was luckier, the MiG pilots or the NATO pilots.
If it wasn't such a serious thing, parts of this would look like a comedy of error 😁
How did the IFF get a false id?
IFF generally can give a positive ID or unknown. F-15s also had a 'non-cooperative target recognition system'. Exact details on how it works are classified but it can recognize a specific type of an aircraft. Or it gives no ID when it can't. There was a false ID by the AWACS when the second MiG-29 was declared friendly after the close encounter with the F-15s. I'm not sure exactly why that happened. Perhaps the operator was inexperienced, or it was getting a signal from another contact and it was confused with the MiG.
Could you recreate the Serbian Mig victories?
Which ones would that be? There's no official claim from the Serbian side, let alone any confirmation from the NATO side.
@@showtime112 🤔once I read about some kind of air guerrilla tactics from the serbs, though I guess it was only especulations then.
@@halonsox Never happened.
@@showtime112 ohh those bastards lied to me then lol.... I also read that a non confirmed MiG23 killed an Israeli F15 on the Lebanon war... 🤔😄
@@halonsox Serbs love to invent their history and victories that never happened.
Therefore, check everything they say.
Serbian History is a Weather Vane.
Considering that 2/3 of the US F-15 missiles failed against the Serbian MiG-29, one can easily see this engagement going against the American pilot, had the MiG-29 and its pilot benefited from better maintenance.
True. On my announcement post, this guy thought he was funny and compared MiG-29s against F-15 to a boxing match between himself and Mike Tyson at his prime. But when you analyze things more deeply, it could have gone the other way. Even if one of the MiGs was able to launch an R-73, it could have been a kill.
Problem was also being outnumbered not to mention amraam had more range then R27s.
And if the F-15 radio hadn’t failed, he would have had 4 F-15s and possibly other F-16s firing at him. What’s your point?
NCTR system in f15's radar is probably main reason it could achive high kill score despite tight RoE
True. That goes for Desert Storm too.
The fog of war, broken equipment on both sides, ambiguous target detection, confusion. Not an easy environment to work in.
First!🙃
Good to see you back!
I know I have been bothering you about this for a while but there was a su 35 downed in a top gun style dogfight against a mig 29 it looks as if they entered a 1 circle horizontal fight before the mig 29 got on the other's tale and fired what i can only guess was a r 73
