From what I understand the manbug was made because a lot of "men" wouldn't carry a knife called the ladybug.
That's the story and if so, there's a lot of insecure guys out there. I'm just fine carrying a Ladybug around and I bet you are too.
Thanks for watching and have a great day!
They should have made the Manbug just a little bit bigger, so it was half way between the Ladybug and Dragonfly in size.
I'm sure one day soon Spyderco will come out with the Transbug.
It's probably already in the works, but it will never come to pass. It will be impossible to figure out how to avoid offending someone...
Jeff Liss Give us an update on which bathroom you have to use.
If it is somehow better than the ladybug (my choice of the two) then I am all for it
The DRAGbug lol
The reason definitely comes down to some guys don't want to say they carry a ladybug, a manbug makes them feel less feminine because they're those types of people.
It’s NOT a big difference!! Lol... I personally like the ladybug because the blade is more pointed.
In Belgium a Ladybug costs between 55 and 80 euros that's almost 100 dollars the Manbug is even more expensive.I bought a Ladybug VG-10 and it's a great little knife. But i will never pay 100 bucks for better steel. It's a small knife for opening letters or small boxes not for skinning a deer.
Nice helpful video, i have carried a VG10 Manbug for some time, just bought a ZDP189 Ladybug and am delighted with its cutting ability so i thought about a ZDP189 Manbug but here in the UK they retail at the equivalent of around $73 , but you have helped me to see that the Ladybug is big enough for my needs, thank you very much.
Yup, not really much difference between the two, except the name. Glad the video helped.
Thanks for watching and have a great day!
I came to the Lady bug conclusion as well. Thinner blade, better slicer, saves a little weight. Strength will likely be the same, considering the chores these little guys will be used for. Went zdp-189 Lady bug. Nice video!
Good Choice, that ZDP-189 is awesome, hard to sharpen but keeps a fine edge for a long, long time.
Thanks for watching and You and yours have a great Holiday Season!
Originally, when the Manbug was released I don't think the Ladybug was offered in FFG, only saber grind. I wish the Manbug was closer to Dragonfly size.
It's social commentary, maaaaaan. Men are slightly bigger than women but were all the same, maaaaaaaaan.
Love my Ladybug. Only reason i can think that Spyderco made the manbug was for insecure men that liked the knife but didn't wanna buy i knife called *Lady* bug for fear that they'd be perceived as less manly for carrying it.
Big,is,good,man
almost the same, but ladybug is more graceful, and plane edge the best!
Nice comparison.
I agree with olmmedic. I've actually read discussions where that was the only issue keeping an guy from buying one. Spyderco saw a demographic they were missing out on and decided to capture it, but with a knife whose name strikes me as forced and silly-sounding. "Ladybug", "dragonfly", "grasshopper", "cricket", "honeybee"--these are all real things. "Manbug" is completely made up; almost sounds like the title of some SyFy Channel "Original" movie, like Mansquito.
I just recently got a ladybug and I'm really liking it so far.
I agree with both of you, the only reason I could see getting a Man bug over the Ladybug, is if you're going to get a VG10 model, where the Ladybug is saber ground and the Man Bug is full flat ground. Thanks for watching!
same opinion here
I bet the only reason there is two, is marketing. Marketing to the different sexes. Some men dont like knives with the name lady. I bet thats it. Lol
+olmmedic I think you Hit the Bug on the head.
+Douglas Bagdasarian yea all those insecure guy that wouldn't carry a Ladybug.... I never measured my manhood by the name of my knife. But, if it makes them feel better and sells more them why not. At least Spyderco made it slightly bigger in all measurements.
...Or a nicely made Byrd Starling 2 in BD-1 for a bit more strength and substance (?) if you aren't into keychaining mini tools?
I have seen reviews on youtube on the VG-10 and ZDP 189 steels on other Spyderco knives. And many users complain both steels chip easy ? I am interested in the ladybug but concerned about the chipping in the steel for the price. Would a better alternative be the Spyderco Ambitous made in China ? or the Spyderco Dragonfly which I like too, though that one has VG10 steel also.
Hey Mark. I have not experienced any chipping with either ZDP-189 or Spyderco's VG10. I don't attempt to cut hard materials with either. ZDP-189 dragonfly would be my choice. I've had one for a year or more that I use to cut leather, score kydex and many other shop tasks and I haven't sharpened it since a few days after I purchased it and I'm sure you could still shave with it. I skip on Spyderco's VG10 because the fine edge rolls off the blade to quickly for me.
Thank you for the reply, I will go with the Dragonfly with ZDP189 . I hope they have it in Zome green?.
I don't know about the Zome but the ZDP-189 Dragonfly is a great choice.
Mark JG It only comes in BR Green ... Not a lot of color choices with the Dragonfly
only the ladybug comes in H1 at present
+Hatch yup, don't remember how I worded it, but you're right. Thanks for watching and have a great day.
Hatch Manbug Salt for 2017. Rescue style blade.
*Stop repeating yourself!*
Disagree man bug wins by most margins.
