  • SQ22 lands in Newark after 18 hours flight from Singapore. Flight is being operated by Airbus A340-500 registered as 9V-SGE. Video taped from Seat 16K.
    SQ22 is the longest commercial passenger flight in the world. Our routing today was Bangkok-Irkutsk over the Northpole to Canada, Quebec and directly to New York.
    I had one of my most memorable flight with a fantastic crew and nearly a personal flight attendant, which was very nice. For her it was the last flight on the A340-500 - she will go on the A380 now - and serve in first class. That`s what I already felt today she was doing....

    This is the quickest way to get to New York out of Singapore. The best flight ever for me and my family. Nice video!

    I used to work for the ground handling company at EWR that took care of this flight when this service first began. I supervised the loading of the baggage. A few months after the A345 service started I got to fly on it. One of the highlights of my life for sure!

      Did these flights carry any cargo when the passenger load was light?

    @saine64 in fact SQ22/21 are the longest scheduled non stop flights currently operated by any carrier worldwide, so no, there's no refueling in here. 18 hours non stop.

  • @trent8002003
    @trent8002003 13 років тому +1

    @saine64 Also it's an all business class flight. Reduced no of pax = increased range. SQ's A345 bought its A345 specially for the SIN/NYK nonstop route.

    The pilots on controls while take-off are also on the controls while landing.the other team just sit there during cruise.As far as I have heard for ultralong flights.

    @gilbjimenez "the Airbus A345 that operates SQ22/21 (i think there're 5 in total) .. is customized to an all-business class cabin (100 seats I think).. initially there was an 'executive economy class' but that was canned

    @rodrigoborgesflores yes, nonstop! Its the worlds longest commercial passenger flight. Today we passed through the north pole and had a planned flight time of about 17 hours 40min hours. Because of a technically probem we departed three hours later than planned. for our first departure our flighttime was 18:40 hours, going through japan, the northern part of the the pacific, alaska, canada, toronto -->new York.

    @cairns65 SQ 21/22 is the daily service to/from Newark Liberty (EWR), whereas the daily 744 connects SIN - FRA - JFK.

  • @DAIRX
    @DAIRX  13 років тому +1

    @deltalphapwns SQ serves already JFK with the 747 from SIN via FRA. This direct flight goes then to Newark which is a hub of the star Alliance. Also this all-business-flight offers the possibility that the passengers are closer to the city than from JFK and have great connections with other star alliance members.

    @yogiababua Longest flight ever operated was from Hong Kong east bound to London on the B777-200LR 9,380mi taking 22h40min, but that was before boeing had delivered any for passenger service, the flight was full of news media, boeing execs, etc. The 2 longest scheduled passenger flights are SQ 22 SIN-EWR followed by SQ 38 SIN-LAX both using the A345

    It is aviation law for the same crew that did the takeoff, to do the landing. However, the second crew will have done the middle of the flight I suspect. Good video, thanks!

    @frkeholmes de planned departure time is 10.40a.m, but we departed at about 1.p.m after nearly 3 hours on the ground because of a TCAS-Problem in the aircraft

    Fascinating video. If Airbus gave their aircraft names the A340-500 would surely be the Condor, or Eagle, or Albatross - certainly a better name than the risible B787 'Dreamliner'.

    @saine64 it was a nonstop flight without refueling because the ultralonghaul aircraft A340-500 can handle a 18hours flight easily! inform you!
    and: we had 4 pilots on board - one team did the takeoff, the other the landing!

    @sydneyarenumber1 i was entertained by a very nice and friendly flight attendant that talked to me about SIA, Airbus, her New York legs, what she always do there....... She was so friendly that she we shaked hands ....I was entertained by her, but I had my laptop with me, there is a goof entertainment programm with SIA, I was making photos, hanging around in the aircraft, and when I was not eating I was sleeping :-) The 18 hours were so short..... that I really want to make this trip again :-)

    @sydneyarenumber1 Both the A380-800 and Boeing 747-400ER can fly (for example) Hong Kong to New York non-stop (even in headwinds). .. however the Airbus A340-500 and Boeing 777-200LR have longer ranges on a full payload ... the Boeing 777-200LR especially is able to virtually connect any two cities in the world.

  • @Haztagz
    @Haztagz 14 років тому

    @yogiababua That was an experimental flight for the Boeing 777-200LR in 2005-06 .. that plane's got the longest range out of any airliner (it actually broke the Airbus A340-500's range-capability and the 345 is the plane that does SQ22/21)... and yes...SQ22 and SQ21 remain the longest scheduled commercial flights in the world.

    yeah i can say the same. i flew from newark to singapore as part of a leg in a trip home to shanghai with a week in singapore and i felt realllly tired after landing in singapore and there's no way i would fly that again. probably just the 18 hours at 8000 feet cabin altitude. i flew once from east coast to singapore via minneapolis and tokyo, around 21 flight hours, and it was nowhere near as tiring, mostly because of all the walking during stopovers.

    @antimatterXXXIII The A340-500 is a nice aircraft for that routing and if it wasn´t costeffective, SQ were the first to cancel it. making it all-business is not as bad as you seem to suggest - it s bringing money in for SQ- thats what airlines like. So maybe the Triple7 is more fuelefficient and a aircraft you do like more... but you have to accept is that SQ is not using it on this route - and the route seems to work well nevertheless. Please accept this and dont start AIrbus-bashing here
