- SQ22 lands in Newark after 18 hours flight from Singapore. Flight is being operated by Airbus A340-500 registered as 9V-SGE. Video taped from Seat 16K.
SQ22 is the longest commercial passenger flight in the world. Our routing today was Bangkok-Irkutsk over the Northpole to Canada, Quebec and directly to New York.
I had one of my most memorable flight with a fantastic crew and nearly a personal flight attendant, which was very nice. For her it was the last flight on the A340-500 - she will go on the A380 now - and serve in first class. That`s what I already felt today she was doing....
This is the quickest way to get to New York out of Singapore. The best flight ever for me and my family. Nice video!
I used to work for the ground handling company at EWR that took care of this flight when this service first began. I supervised the loading of the baggage. A few months after the A345 service started I got to fly on it. One of the highlights of my life for sure!
Did these flights carry any cargo when the passenger load was light?
@saine64 in fact SQ22/21 are the longest scheduled non stop flights currently operated by any carrier worldwide, so no, there's no refueling in here. 18 hours non stop.
@saine64 Also it's an all business class flight. Reduced no of pax = increased range. SQ's A345 bought its A345 specially for the SIN/NYK nonstop route.
The pilots on controls while take-off are also on the controls while landing.the other team just sit there during cruise.As far as I have heard for ultralong flights.
@gilbjimenez "the Airbus A345 that operates SQ22/21 (i think there're 5 in total) .. is customized to an all-business class cabin (100 seats I think).. initially there was an 'executive economy class' but that was canned
@rodrigoborgesflores yes, nonstop! Its the worlds longest commercial passenger flight. Today we passed through the north pole and had a planned flight time of about 17 hours 40min hours. Because of a technically probem we departed three hours later than planned. for our first departure our flighttime was 18:40 hours, going through japan, the northern part of the the pacific, alaska, canada, toronto -->new York.
@cairns65 SQ 21/22 is the daily service to/from Newark Liberty (EWR), whereas the daily 744 connects SIN - FRA - JFK.
@deltalphapwns SQ serves already JFK with the 747 from SIN via FRA. This direct flight goes then to Newark which is a hub of the star Alliance. Also this all-business-flight offers the possibility that the passengers are closer to the city than from JFK and have great connections with other star alliance members.
Fantastic video and great landing. Thumbs up to SQ and its airbus fleet!
Thank you for sharing this.
I'm in love with long flights, unfortunately my longest flight so far was 13 hours only.. I wish I could fly for 18 hours straight :P nice video.
@yogiababua Longest flight ever operated was from Hong Kong east bound to London on the B777-200LR 9,380mi taking 22h40min, but that was before boeing had delivered any for passenger service, the flight was full of news media, boeing execs, etc. The 2 longest scheduled passenger flights are SQ 22 SIN-EWR followed by SQ 38 SIN-LAX both using the A345
It is aviation law for the same crew that did the takeoff, to do the landing. However, the second crew will have done the middle of the flight I suspect. Good video, thanks!
@frkeholmes de planned departure time is 10.40a.m, but we departed at about 1.p.m after nearly 3 hours on the ground because of a TCAS-Problem in the aircraft
Fascinating video. If Airbus gave their aircraft names the A340-500 would surely be the Condor, or Eagle, or Albatross - certainly a better name than the risible B787 'Dreamliner'.
holy crap that one of the smooth landing I ever seen
@saine64 it was a nonstop flight without refueling because the ultralonghaul aircraft A340-500 can handle a 18hours flight easily! inform you!
and: we had 4 pilots on board - one team did the takeoff, the other the landing!
This was an awesome. Video
@rodrigoborgesflores well of course I was tired. but not much more than usual. you have time enough to sleep (very well) on this flight. I slept 8 hrs the night after and everything is fine! greets
You shouldn't be surprised; it's the pilots job. It took 22 hours to deliver me. Out I came, amidst no claps.
@KCBOYZ1307 the A380 operates SIN-NRT-LAX. The direct flight is still with A340-500!
i would like to try this flight...most ive done is 15 hours LAX to HKG
Oh i've heard of this flight ,must have been fantastic!
@rachaelmatt actually SQ21 was the longest 22 registered second longest because of prevailing winds that caused the amount of flying to be shorter
@sydneyarenumber1 i was entertained by a very nice and friendly flight attendant that talked to me about SIA, Airbus, her New York legs, what she always do there....... She was so friendly that she we shaked hands ....I was entertained by her, but I had my laptop with me, there is a goof entertainment programm with SIA, I was making photos, hanging around in the aircraft, and when I was not eating I was sleeping :-) The 18 hours were so short..... that I really want to make this trip again :-)
Now the A380 does the JFK-FRA-SIN route.
@sydneyarenumber1 no probz mate and lol JFK-HKG would be roughly 15 hours in headwinds and going east from HKG to JFK wud prolly take the leg out in 13-14 hours
very nice video!!!
Wow, I want your job....great flight videos!
Nice video!
and uber smooth landing!!
@sydneyarenumber1 Both the A380-800 and Boeing 747-400ER can fly (for example) Hong Kong to New York non-stop (even in headwinds). .. however the Airbus A340-500 and Boeing 777-200LR have longer ranges on a full payload ... the Boeing 777-200LR especially is able to virtually connect any two cities in the world.
i love watching the shadow!!
@yogiababua That was an experimental flight for the Boeing 777-200LR in 2005-06 .. that plane's got the longest range out of any airliner (it actually broke the Airbus A340-500's range-capability and the 345 is the plane that does SQ22/21)... and yes...SQ22 and SQ21 remain the longest scheduled commercial flights in the world.
@airlinepilotdude yes, an all-day-flight. the flight back from EWR is completely night then,
yeah i can say the same. i flew from newark to singapore as part of a leg in a trip home to shanghai with a week in singapore and i felt realllly tired after landing in singapore and there's no way i would fly that again. probably just the 18 hours at 8000 feet cabin altitude. i flew once from east coast to singapore via minneapolis and tokyo, around 21 flight hours, and it was nowhere near as tiring, mostly because of all the walking during stopovers.
good video
felicidades desde colombia
cool video bro congrats from mexico
Due for suspension soon. SQ also closing 2nd longest non stop flight to LAX. Guess pax just can't stand being cooped up even in business class seats for 18 hrs.
Other amazing video :)
I see that flight come in all the time
wow on the world's second longest flight lucky bastard!
Good job!
i've been to australia many times. lax-mel 15.5 hrs. i thought that was torture. this, wow
Amazing subscribed
it's a nice video, as a nice trip i think
@rodrigoborgesflores on SQ A340-500 is no First Class. It is an all-buisness Jet (100 Seats)
Wow you must be flying over north pole already.
@cleo0399 16000km is about 10000 miles :) to be exact, 1 mile is 1,609km
I would actually like to experience that flight!
Love it
Eighteen hours...just to end up in New Jersey...
18 hours....wow!
@yogiababua possibly...but this flight remains the longest commercial passenger flight of the world right now.
18 hours......wow.....how many meals on this flight?
can i ask how many times you landed to re fuel ?or did it refuel in mid air ....i didnt think it was possible for a passenger plane to fly no stop for 18 hrs ...and with out changing pilot ? please explain ty .....ive been on a 12 hour flight my self ...so i can take it you had fun
@marco78910 Singapore to LA? And SIA Uses 380's for that route now. I think the flight to SFO is like 20 mins longer
i wonder if those engines ever overheat from being run for 18 hours??
@DAIRX is this trip longer or equal to the one to la?
@JeanRobin20 because I was in Malaysia / South East Asia already...??!!!
Didn't know that SIN was using A340s... thats interesting!
@gilbjimenez sq22 a340 is an all business class and a anon-stop flight from singapore
@OB346 it has to be a 340 because a 380 would be too much weight
You better had shown some interior activities. its a nice vid tho. Thanks.
OMG this flight was torture! i've been on it O.O
@simplecrs13 Not all, one of my best flights ever!
@travelplus1 on that day?
@CoastersBolts Flying SIA is a different story :D the entertainment options available don't make you feel bored or anything
@DAIRX Thanks!
Did the pilot switch off engine No. 2 and 3 after landing?
?When exactly you departe from Singapore? At what time
Which direction does it fly on this route, west or east?
I wish I can be on that flight
i cant believe an A340-500 can make a trip this long 18 1/2 hrs they should have used nthe a380 for this flight great video though
i thought my Amman, Jordan to Chicago flight was bad :D 14hrs
Was this an 'all day' flight?
@voja2000 three services.
a lunch, a dinner and a "light bites menu", just to nibble on.
how old were you when you arrived at EWR?
@sydneyarenumber1 nope Singapore's the only airline that utilizes the polar crossing for such a long distance ...Thai did a copycat flight for a while but I believe they've now stopped going to JFK
@rodrigoborgesflores Yes it is non stop flight!
Why do you travel so mch in a short time?
From HK to Dublin also need 18 hours !I know because i do !:(
@yogiababua and it flew Seattle to Hong Kong .;..and not Malaysia
@antimatterXXXIII The A340-500 is a nice aircraft for that routing and if it wasn´t costeffective, SQ were the first to cancel it. making it all-business is not as bad as you seem to suggest - it s bringing money in for SQ- thats what airlines like. So maybe the Triple7 is more fuelefficient and a aircraft you do like more... but you have to accept is that SQ is not using it on this route - and the route seems to work well nevertheless. Please accept this and dont start AIrbus-bashing here
Why does this flight go to Newark and not JFK?
16020km with 313 passengers on board.
I also forgot to mention the A330-300
@DAIRX Especially in business class
Awesome video! I've been on a 20 hr flight with a A321 and A320. I didn't know those planes could do a long flight.
@Dexter11929 G E O R G E O U S !!!!
@airbusrated6 ...Up to you lah!
@Ohgimmeabreakwillya this flight has only business class. nothing else. That's why it can go soo far. Not a lot of passengers since it only has business. Therefore not a lot of luggage so they can fill everything up with fuel :P
i'm surprised no one clapped..
@yogiababua but not without a stopover
the flight attendant showed NO partiality to the fact that it was the longest flight on record
@ThreadyCash2274 or they could have kept the 744
Woke up this mornin' and got yourself a gun
god 18 hours? I am tired after a 3 hour...
i know but you'd think they would
They need to install showers on these long range planes!
