Just out of curiosity, how did you know which exact aircraft you would be flying on? It could be any United 772 that gets assigned to the route on that day.
I kind of got the feeling he was doing the bare minimum there. The other truck was cranking up and down that wing and he was like “mmmm ok a little here, maybe a little there, oh better check my email..”
I've never flown in a big jet....only little prop planes. I imagine hearing that engine drone for hours might get annoying, but I wouldn't want to quit hearing it in the sky lol. Good video. 25 to 45 million dollars for that ge90
Wait till you’re lucky enough to catch a ride in a 757 with RR RB211 engines. Last flight from ORD to PVD, cruise speed was 597 mph, at 38,000’. It’s the Corvette of the skies.
I used to until I understood why they do that. They use max thrust (not all the way) just to get up there then they reduce it to cruise. Mentour Pilot explains this really well. Also when getting ready to descend and it feels like they cut out the engines lol.
It’s the application of climb thrust - in this case, climb thrust was higher than takeoff thrust. Flying through clouds doesn’t require any extra thrust. That it occurred just prior to entering the clouds is purely coincidental.

Do GE90s have a greater circumference than any other jet engine? I wonder because these always look bigger than any other engines on any near-by aircrafts
GE90s are the largest jet engines in the world. The largest version are the ones on the 777-200LR/300ERs which are 128 inches in diameter. The version of the GE90 in this video is 123 in, which is second largest. The next largest is the Trent XWB on the A350 (118 in)

Thanks! It wasn’t overly cold actually - if I remember it was like high 20s/low 30s (Fahrenheit of course), but definitely cold enough for icing conditions. The decision to de ice wasn’t made till we were almost ready to push. The pilots were prepared for the possibility but when it started raining that’s when they officially decided to deice

Definitely a power-on climb to break that cloud layer.
I just love seeing the wing flex literally 6 feet on take off and stay that way in flight.
