Atos CareTips - Electrolarynx: Replacing a foam ring and adjusting the diaphragm

Issue: Replacing a foam ring
One common issue that affects sound quality is a worn-out foam ring. If your device sounds muffled or excessively buzzing, it may be time to replace the foam ring. Atos Medical offers a foam ring kit that includes five foam rings and an installation card. We will walk you through removing the old foam ring and installing a new one, ensuring a clean and proper fit.
To replace the foam ring, remove the cap from your electrolarynx and push the sound button through the sound head cap. Clean the inner crevices of both the sound button and sound head cap before installing the new foam ring. Using the installation card, evenly place the foam ring around the sound button, making sure there are no twists. Next, insert the sound button into the upper portion of the sound head cap and press the foam ring into position using the installation card. Finally, reattach the sound head cap and test the device's sound.
If replacing the foam ring doesn't resolve the sound quality issue, adjusting the diaphragm might help. Improper diaphragm orientation can impact sound quality.
Issue: Adjusting the diaphragm
We will show you how to check and realign the diaphragm. Remove the sound head cap assembly to access the diaphragm. Proper orientation involves a rod sticking through the center of the diaphragm. If adjustment is necessary, gently press the diaphragm around the middle until it sits around the groove in the coil post. Avoid pushing the diaphragm too far; if that happens, gently pull it upward until it is properly seated. Reattach the sound head cap and test the device's sound.
