Captain Casual actually, it kind of is. This device & a Synthesizer use the exact sawtooth waveform to make that hard buzzing sound you hear in this video to mimic speech. The only difference is with a synth, you can change notes.

All I can say is I'm going to need a LOT of practice.
I remember a Social Worker who used to be a pipe smoker. After losing his larynx, he got an Artificial Larynx Device that was built into a pipe frame. He looked and felt so natural having the pipe in his mouth & being able to talk.
If you ask me I would choose the TEP implant device for more natural and convenient speech ( no need to grab and fumble with)also the device filters and moistens the air and also stops the constant drool that is messy as it collects for removal rather than running unpredictably .

He can say tongue twisters but regular sentences are too much. He def uses this thing daily.

Vibration on the Jawbone heading towards the ear making quite a lot of noise and therefore hard to hear.
All he heard was the machine buzzing because his voice came from the amplifier which was further away from his ears than the machine? ? I dunno. Electrolarynx.
