4.0 guppy here, decided a few days before to go on a solo mission this weekend and had the best time! Sucks it was cut short but i thought they played their asses off start to finish today. Always catch your recaps FZappa you are the man!
Fun fact: Hendrix played Izabella 55 years ago to the day at Woodstock. As far as the show went, Page was going crazy on keys on Maze & Ya Mar. It was Ya Mar when I thought "Oh crap! This is going to be one set"
Not sure if anyone’s with me on this but I love the concept of an occasional Sunday afternoon show. I attend as many Sunday shows as possible but those Mondays are always brutal - especially so after after a fest. The real killer was the one long set
Some people were grumping and groaning about no planned daytime shows and then we got one anyway! Getting one “long ass set” early on a Sunday like this wasn’t so bad.
Every time I cancel plans for rain I regret it! Nobody could know for sure. I’m grateful for what we got, I thought I might drop over dead during Sundays show from dancing so hard in that afternoon heat and I would’ve died happy 🔥🤩
Love your recaps. Always check them first thing in the morning. Really hope you do a summer recap before Dicks. Would love to get your opinion in the summer as a whole.
and it was the right call. Imagine the news stories about how Mondegreen became yet another one of the festival disasters we've seen so many (non-Phish) festivals be over the past 5-10 years. 100% with the call, myself. It was in everyone's interest to err on the side of caution here.
I was wrong to say storm rolled thru an hour later, I was closer to Baltimore by then and conditions were different. On my way home. Glad they played earlier today and got a show in. Storm rolled thru an hour after they finished. Had a great time at the festival.
storm? i was there till 11pm, all there was was some light rain and a little, not dangerous wind for like a half hour and some drizzlings throughout the evening. Def nowhere near the kind of storm that would have mattered. I think the decision was made to move the show up way too early. It is what it is but...didn't need to be what it was.
They 100% made the right call to do the show the way they did. Just imagine what would have happened if a thunderstorm actually hit during the show. Even if they ended the show, you still have 50k people there in a field, with most of them probably still needing to pack up their camping equipment back at the campground. Mondegreen could've become the next disaster festival that people talk about that have become so common over the past 5-10 years (thankfully, Phish knows how to do them right). Would any of us have wanted that? Kind of sucks that the festival ended this way, but that's just the way it goes with these things. I went to Bonnaroo 2005 (god that makes me feel old) and it also had warnings of a big storm coming through on Sunday. It was pretty chaotic once people started leaving early on Sunday. It's just part of the risk that comes with holding these outdoor festivals like this in the middle of the summer. The music from this weekend has been incredible, and we've still got Dicks.
100% support the call. My production company worked 2 fests over the weekend that didn’t get called off, one in the lakes region of NY. We lost over a $1mil in equipment. The down pour got 2 semis caught in the mud and they couldn’t get any gear in the trucks for 2 hours. Was an absolute disaster. Phish owns a lot of their lighting rig and rents the rest but all together they lug around a good couple mil in equipment, insurance does exist but it’s not worth the claim, legal proceedings or the risk of the safety of what was a very sleep deprived crew. Glad it all worked out for the production staff in the end and glad they get a couple weeks off after the fact. Good weekend of shows to top it all off. Mansfield N3 s2 still my fav set of tour tho.
I’m used to working 12-hour shifts at these shows doing security, guarding gates, checking passes, etc. but the first priority is safety. We got a great daytime set out of it for people who were upset about how those were not part of the original plan. I agree that the right call was made.
There were logistical issues that showed themselves throughout the festival, but overall was a great time, chill people there for the most part, and some great playing from the band all weekend.
twas da bomb. what a weekend! yes, Sunday early start time and shorter show were not ideal, but it was correct and we had a ball. i was actually fine with leaving sunday afternoon lol.
The music was great, I loved the quality of the jams. The energy was definitely there. Trey seemed a bit uncomfortable at times. Also I want to say that it rained/“stormed” for roughly 30-40mins tops. Was a bit sad that was the case, all of the vendors & trams were shut down mid-way through the day. Seemed like we were kind of left flapping in the breeze, no pun intended.
It’s unfortunate that today was cut short because of weather. I was a little bummed myself. I remember being in Pelham Alabama back in 99 when they continued playing on the second set during an hour long downpour. Then they still came back out for an encore. There was no lightning but it was a monsoon at that amphitheater.
I was there - there was a severe storm warning in effect and there’s not much cover there - and it’s a LONG walk back to cars or your camp. It would’ve been terrible if there was lightning with 50,000 people like that out in the open.
Yes everyone was safe no actual bad weather came no mud and the secret set I will be talking about for 20 years from now but no 20 years Later was even played to show how far the band has come since Coventry. That was very disappointing the show and that lack of that song because treys sobriety and great playing deserves celebration
I think more than worried about the crew etc... some people had 30-40+ minute walks back to their campsites, also a long trek to the shuttles for the hotel people. Waiting until the rain would have left thousands of people with a major quest to get to safety before some potentially intense wind and lightening. As someone who was there... highlight was the (not so) secret set. Selfish highlight, was not getting burned for leaving early this morning by missing something massive today. Also... people are sitting in stop dead traffic for hours now trying to escape.
Did it rain? Rained omw home in Lancaster and ya glad we were clear of that water globe. Anyone? Crowd was dead for Isabella, that shit blew the roof off in Seattle.
Relatively new Phish fan, my first show was Alpine Sunday this summer which I know some people were underwhelmed with. Today I had a day off and some extra scratch so I bought my first webcast and looks like people were underwhelmed again 😂 but since Alpine I’ve loved watching your recaps. I appreciate your objectivity about the band when most fans go gaga for anything. If you ever make a whiteboard for this show I would grab it!
July 3rd 2000 there was a huge storm with thunder and lightening and everyone in the lawn which included me got soaked. During gin the storm was insane but they played the rest of the show and no weather delay.
@joelchristopher1425 That was before when venues got strick about lighting. I went to Raleigh in 97. Incredible storm and they played right thru it. It was crazy!
I thought it was decent overall. I wish there was more 'unique' songs played, maybe a few more covers. I am 100% sure that if I was there I would have thought it was badass! I did notice their light rig has more depth this tour. Was hopeful for a drone-show at the fest. DWD has to be the most played song this year. I was at DICKS last year during the one long-ass set due to weather. All good, man. Glad they put on a fest. Good fun calling songs & commenting so far. Good seeing you, dude. 💥 *something random* Now I know the reason that I'm feeling so forlorn I'll pick you up at eight as usual, listen for my horn 💥💥
I live about 45 minutes north of the venue. We had a storm around 3 for maybe an hour. Couch toured it out as my kids a just a little to young at this point. Feels a like little bitter sweet ending to a great festival.
I think there was a lot of anticipation for this fest considering the last one was curveball. And yes, I too got Curveball'd and then didn't make this fest. Logistics involved I'm glad I couch toured this one as I'm not the young whippersnapper I once was (and didn't go through with an attempt at one off). Like you I was expecting some solid shows but with maybe a little more uniqueness and bust outs. For me the highlight was N1 and the secret set. Today's set was fun and I haven't looked at song times but I was expecting at least a longer jam and even thought maybe Fuego was going longer. Anywho, on to Dick's. Thanks for the recap.
It was a perfect decision... a great call by the event organizers to make the decision the day before and move up the final day sets. There was a forecast for heavy rain and thunderstorms during showtime. Perfect idea is do move it up to an AFTERNOON set, and then folks can hunker down or leave. Great decision. Win Win. And my buddy at the show was thrilled. He loved it and got to come home a day early and relax. A 4-Night Festival is LONG. I think in the future, all 4-show festivals should end with an afternoon Sunday set. And why do you have a problem with Trey's sunglasses?
This is the sadness that manifests when its all over. I dug the Axilla 1 that doesn't get much play. I was hoping for one more encore. Then again Fuego was the longest song....just one more please. Maybe just a quick Cavern? Kaboom 👊
@danz6173 We're doing great Dan hope you are too. I think the show just threw us off being moved to 1pm and then just doing the 1 long set. I really don't have any regrets. Probably got more songs than we would have. Sad it's over tho.
I thought they were joking when they played fuego, emphasizing the “rolling” part and then left in perfect weather. Guess it wasn’t the bands choice but still a huge bummer with how the show was going. Izabella was rockin.
Gotta say the way you explain that experience reminded me of the Great Went and my gf and were up front for 2hours by the time they came out we'd gotten pushed 50yds back couple that with small black caps qbinsis we pulled out taking an hour just to get my gf new car outta parking lot and by the time we made our first toll, people were describing how Trey caught wooden statue on 🔥 w/his guitar...
I wasn’t disappointed, it was cool, different, and they made it the best they could for what they were able to do, not worth it to have a hot spot for lightning during a severe thunderstorm. I drove through it on my way home, it was not to be messed with.
Weather is a thing. I went to summer camp years ago and Trey band had to cancel second set then moe. the headliner canceled all together on Saturday night. We still had a blast.
fyi. I hung around the camp til 11pm. Storm never came. I had a great time but would have really appreciated a bustout or 3. A lot of the playing was fine, but they just didn't seem to want to dig into the catalog for us. Otherwise, super great time. Festival site not as good as Watkins but not as terrible as some of the crybabies are insinuating. It was some good phish on the whole with a couple bummers spliced in. Best thing of the whole fest, imo, was Your Per Cat, that pace they had going for it was extra fun. Were def some heftier jams than that, though, I'm probably in a small minority with that being my fav.
Just got back from Mondegreen and I can say alot of people were very understanding and werent terribly dissapointed. Festival was beautiful and shows were awesome! ♥
I’m not sure who I enjoy more, the phans or the band. However, it would be very hard for me to say that I loved the music this weekend (couch tour). Maybe that’s on me for having high expectations for this festival.
There was a push notification from the LivePhish app for Sunday’s early show. Also, consider turning on all UA-cam notifications for Phish if you haven’t already.
This was my 50th show. Very weird one. Decent music in it but it was hot AF and I was tired from the previous 3 shows. But putting this one aside I really enjoyed it all. All the second sets were great. N1 was probably my fav. The ambient set was so dreamy. Loved that. Should have just played regular time tonight. Also n2 deserves some credit. ruby Waves > Pillow Jets > My pet cat
4 days in Mexico always has a short welcome set the last few years. Ever since Phish turned Dick's into 4 nights, there hasn't been a successful complete 4-night, 2-set run.
I had serious FOMO even though I haven't been to a festival in 26 years. Grateful for the 2 shows I got to see at Alpine. Honestly, it seems like the festival was underwhelming. Very curious to see what the Wookz guys have to say after attending
I was more than happy at Deer Creek. They seemed to do something special every night. The first Day In The Life in 10 years, the first night. 3 DWD reprises, the second night. And the rarely played songs the third night. And it felt like a festival, because I camped across the road at Sleepy Bear campground. And walked over to Shakedown every afternoon before the shows. and partied till late night at the campground.
Told ya Dricus was going to win. Picked him by sub too! Did ya catch CJI as well? I’m on a little weekend vacation with the fiancé looking at wedding venues and got to watch some Mondegreen, UFC & CJI! 👊 great weekend of fun and entertainment
Roger Waters 8-13-1999 Montage Mtn Scranton, PA…one of the best shows I ever went to…It was Friday the 13th, we were in a drought, then all of a sudden shooting web like lightning bolts and torrential rain filled the sky… went on a slight delay but that nutty fucker, Roger Waters came back out and finished the show while it was still lightning and thundering and the show went on well past midnight til 1am…fun times indeed and one of those shows I will never forget.
Went to 18 shows this year including sphere and all 10 midwest stops. Mondegreen was the end cap. Absolutely not worth it, I’ll never again attend another festival. The 4 nights with St. Louis and grand rapids made mondegreen look like a custy rip of fiesta
I feel bad for the band & the fans especially the ones in Dover, DE. They have had weather problems at every East Coast Fest since 3.0 Coventry (ok this was2.0) Curve Ball Mondegreen This not what the band wanted for the fans but this is the best thing to do in a bad situation.
Thanks!
Thank you

On point!!
Fun fact: Hendrix played Izabella 55 years ago to the day at Woodstock.

N000ICE, THOUGHT I WAS DA ONLY PHAN DAT CAUGHT IT🤙🤙🤙🎸🎸🎸
The Experience was my first passion. So much related went down this year. Isabella made another circle complete. 🤩
Love your vids btw and the other three days were awesome
Not sure if anyone’s with me on this but I love the concept of an occasional Sunday afternoon show. I attend as many Sunday shows as possible but those Mondays are always brutal - especially so after after a fest. The real killer was the one long set

Same inside is best 😂
Love your recaps. Always check them first thing in the morning. Really hope you do a summer recap before Dicks. Would love to get your opinion in the summer as a whole.
Thanks, I will do an overall recap before Dick's!
I actually loved that they played a long set in the day. It's a bunch of fun seeing them in the sun.
They wanted to protect their gear, their crew, the fans, and all the people working the festival. They made a judgment call to avoid a shit show.
But the shit never showed
@@wrongwayranger4736it was a ton of lightening. Its not just the rain you need worry about.
@@wrongwayranger4736 yep never did
and it was the right call. Imagine the news stories about how Mondegreen became yet another one of the festival disasters we've seen so many (non-Phish) festivals be over the past 5-10 years.

Yeah no storm. . .off in the distance but no rain. The worst was the options for people that had to walk 30 mins into the venue.
There was no STORM!
Be glad you they still play! 🎶⭕️🐠 I enjoyed it
They 100% made the right call to do the show the way they did. Just imagine what would have happened if a thunderstorm actually hit during the show. Amphitheaters have way more cover and infrastructure to be able to play in the wind and rain than an outdoor stage.
Phish steered clear of a situation that could’ve landed them in a UA-cam music festival disaster doc.
Never miss a Sunday show my ass
Your opening got me thinking they played lengthwise
I was there - there was a severe storm warning in effect and there’s not much cover there - and it’s a LONG walk back to cars or your camp. It would’ve been terrible if there was lightning with 50,000 people like that out in the open.
did it ever rain? I left, or well sat in traffic until 1/13 was done - and ya the sky opened up about 9pm
I don't know, but "Fuego" might be the song of the summer.
That encore definitely put it in contention
DC Fuego was the best I have ever seen!
For me, that was the PERFECT final song for them to play!
Got through the weekend without a More, so not a total bust.
😂
Damn Kevin, no one died

Heliosphere was the absolute truth. Sad for everyone that didn’t get to experience the late night vibe.
That “Maze,” though. Not the longest, but it was 🔥
It’s not the rain. It’s the risk of lightning.
I was worried about “lightening” as well. Joy or More would have been more lightening than I could handle.
July 3rd 2000 there was a huge storm with thunder and lightening and everyone in the lawn which included me got soaked. During gin the storm was insane but they played the rest of the show and no weather delay.
There has to actually be lightening in the area for it to be a risk.

glad i went to st. louis & deer creek instead those shows balled out. A lot less flying from ak as well
It was a perfect decision... a great call by the event organizers to make the decision the day before and move up the final day sets. Haven’t watched your vid yet but pretty sure faygo encore enshrines you in mondegreen HOF. Credit where it’s due! You coined the phrase
Yeah, Fuego ruled them all. I got over my hissy fit btw
Stay strong brother.
We're afraid of water now
This is the sadness that manifests when its all over. I dug the Axilla 1 that doesn't get much play. I was hoping for one more encore. Then again Fuego was the longest song....just one more please. Maybe just a quick Cavern? Kaboom 👊
Hello Mr&Mrs Spud, quite a disappointing day to end the weekend. Hope you guys had a good weekend.
@danz6173 We're doing great Dan hope you are too. I think the show just threw us off being moved to 1pm and then just doing the 1 long set. I really don't have any regrets. Probably got more songs than we would have. Sad it's over tho.
We got a whole lotta DICKS to look forward to 😅👍
Great time! just got home
I thought they were joking when they played fuego, emphasizing the “rolling” part and then left in perfect weather. Guess it wasn’t the bands choice but still a huge bummer with how the show was going. Izabella was rockin.
Summer tour 2024: saw it again..and again tour

Apparently the weather reported incidents of PairieDog-nados.
I wasn’t disappointed, it was cool, different, and they made it the best they could for what they were able to do, not worth it to have a hot spot for lightning during a severe thunderstorm. I drove through it on my way home, it was not to be messed with.
Like I said in the video ,I understand, but I was still disappointed
gone are the days when the late set was the band on a flatbead jamming throughout the grounds....
Yeah bummer
Our intent is for your safety😂
Weather is a thing. I went to summer camp years ago and Trey band had to cancel second set then moe. the headliner canceled all together on Saturday night. We still had a blast.

I’m not sure who I enjoy more, the phans or the band. However, it would be very hard for me to say that I loved the music this weekend (couch tour). Maybe that’s on me for having high expectations for this festival.
The outro 😂
C’est la vie! Think they made the right call… yeah, the Sunday Show took a hit, but holy crap - the ‘Secret Set’!
I’m annoyed I didn’t get an email from LivePhish after preordering all four nights. I don’t have social media. I had no idea they were live.
There was a push notification from the LivePhish app for Sunday’s early show. Also, consider turning on all UA-cam notifications for Phish if you haven’t already.
They were probably still scared from Wilmington lol. Because that shit was scarey.
This was my 50th show. Very weird one. Decent music in it but it was hot AF and I was tired from the previous 3 shows. But putting this one aside I really enjoyed it all. All the second sets were great. N1 was probably my fav.

I thought the 1 PM start time was pretty nice actually. VALDEEZ NUTS lol night 3 was my fav
Did it even rain lol!
Same
I wish i had gone and seen goose instead! they are that new fire!
Have the festivals in the fall so no severe weather. Easy for me to say...
N2 was my personal fav. Today would have been better at night.
We got crushed with flooding and rain up in CT
So much for a sunday show. I think thier secret set is better than sphere
I loved big daddy in shades

A Slave to it.
When you understand the weather is controlled it might be a little more pissed off
I'm happy with my 2 nights in grand rapids.
Rushed second sets on two straight nights to make room for Mr Strings was a bummer for me. I like Billy. But I like Phish alot more.

These are the moments that try the souls of men...
Told ya Dricus was going to win. Picked him by sub too! Did ya catch CJI as well? I’m on a little weekend vacation with the fiancé looking at wedding venues and got to watch some Mondegreen, UFC & CJI! 👊 great weekend of fun and entertainment
Only a real one would admit that steam stuff 😂
never change FZappa ❤🎉

Dat 1 pm Thang made it so a lot ppl were still sleeping from Saturday night 😒
Roger Waters 8-13-1999 Montage Mtn Scranton, PA…one of the best shows I ever went to…It was Friday the 13th, we were in a drought, then all of a sudden shooting web like lightning bolts and torrential rain filled the sky… went on a slight delay but that nutty fucker, Roger Waters came back out and finished the show while it was still lightning and thundering and the show went on well past midnight til 1am…fun times indeed and one of those shows I will never forget.
Omg I was there!
@@joem1152sweet man…fun times playing in the rain 😅✌️🤘
Do you know what Monte green means correct?
I think the verbiage was fishes answer to the Mandela fact
Went to 18 shows this year including sphere and all 10 midwest stops.
Mondegreen was the end cap.
Absolutely not worth it, I’ll never again attend another festival.
The 4 nights with St. Louis and grand rapids made mondegreen look like a custy rip of fiesta
So glad I went to Deer Creek instead!
STL N1 was so melty. CK5 was on some other shit, Something about those small barns when the lights come down everything's right.
Phish sucks 😂 shocker 😮
Deer Creek has had its problems as well. But was great!
Rained for two minutes while I took a shit
I thought for sure we would get a golgi
I feel bad for the band & the fans especially the ones in Dover, DE.
They have had weather problems at every East Coast Fest since 3.0
Coventry (ok this was2.0)
Curve Ball
Mondegreen
This not what the band wanted for the fans but this is the best thing to do in a bad situation.
Superball and Magnaball was amazing. Mostly because I was there, but also because the playing was top notch and weather, while hot, was great!
Your ending though 😭😭😭😭😭
Izabella wasn’t a bust out. Played it on 8/3. 10 shows ago
