    Follow along as we teardown this transmission. We have some excitement during this video. We almost break my camera, then we almost drop the transmission off the table, and lastly we got a frantic call from a neighbor and had to take our John Deere 6220 fishing in a pond, hang around till the end to see what we fished out! They could of did much better in the Spicer design room !!! I've drove two trucks with spicers and I didn't like em at all.
    I'D TAKE A FULLER LATE MODEL 13-18 ANYTIME, I WORKED ON EM 10+ YEARS BEFORE I STARTED DRIVING COAL AND LOG TRUCKS AND A FLATBED AND LOWBOY FOR 25+ YEARS BUT THE OLD SST series spicers 16-20 speed transmission were good trans almost indestructible to be honest (Huge Bearings) but I just don't care for the latter spicers and that's a shame cause a redesigned 12 speed might have given em the best transmission ever but that's life !!! Great video all the best to you and yours Sir.

      @@kentsessoms6122 I pulled my 10 speed and repaired it myself. Easy case to split, easy gearset to time. The rail is a weak spot in these transmissions, and not cheap at all, I beveled the broken edges back very steeply, then welded it up with stainless. Has worked flawlessly. No special tools required to get the case off and rail out

    Hi. My truck is a 10 speed manual (Eaton) the gears stock was on high range (I was told that this was a minor issue) But The mechanic told me it's a big damage, they need to rebuild it for $ 3500 without labor!!!. I agreed. Then I found out, that he replaced it with another one, that one doesn't have a cooler (my transmission had one) tell me please if what the mechanic did is right/okay?. Should I accept this transmission ( the new one without the cooler)?
    He's working on the truck now, haven't finished yet.. I still have time... should I accept what he did or not?? Please reply 🙏

      @Offroadfarm1  2 роки тому +1

      This is a hard question to answer. I would ask the mechanic about your concerns with the cooler but there are many Eaton's out there without a cooler. Now about swapping the transmission. More than likely your mechanic is trying to save you some money. If you have $3500 of parts damage then your looking at a huge repair bill, possibly more than double the cost of parts. With that kind of damage your talking a total rebuild and that takes time and time equals money at shop rate. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching

      @@Offroadfarm1 I am a truck mechanic..and out method of mounting transmission here (Nigeria) is very complex.. 4 people work minimum. But my USA base supervisor always boast how only him sue to mount transmission by himself back in the USA. So am just curious to know how it's done over there in the USA..

      My father in law was a truck mechanic for over 40 years. He pulled, repaired, and re-installed thousands of transmissions by himself. He did finally hire a helper for about the last 10 years or so he was in business. He also used to mount clutches by hand, by himself. Your supervisor is telling the truth, it's done by one person here in the USA all the time.

    No New Bearings? It's already apart.

      The customer didn't want the added expense. The oil that we drained out didn't have a lot of metal in it, so we just washed everything up really well and put it back together. Bearings in these transmission can be pricey and cost can add up quickly. Thanks for watching!

    Yeah backyard mechanics don't pay much attention to things when disassembling, they just like throwing things around instead of lodging them down lol
