take oof the foil cover because when the sun hits it, it will fry the plant! I know because I did that and learned very quickly.

Greetings from Ontario, Canada, Leon. I set up wicking tubs last spring after discovering your videos, and ended up with a forest! Needless to say, I plan to space things out better this year, and maybe add more tubs. As a senior with back issues this is the only way to garden. Thanks for this video! I think I'll set a tub up inside soon to get some fresh lettuce going. Stay safe!

Hi just wanted to let you know your video popped up on my feed this morning so I watched and really enjoyed it! I’ve been trying to come up with some idea on what to plant the seeds in other then buying that expensive rock wool or hemp fibre blocks. I never thought of a cotton ball but I’m going to give it a try! Up til now I’ve started my seeds in soil and then transferred the small plant into my DIY hydroponic system but it can be awfully messy and I sometimes kill the little plants because pulling them out of the pots and soil while trying to rinse off all the excess dirt. I’ve not tried growing lettuce yet but this is probably going to be my next experiment. In the meantime what I have been successful growing in my DIY hydroponics system is sweet peppers and I’m trying some Roma paste tomatoes. My sweet peppers are coming along nicely. I am using 4 litre jugs that I’ve wrapped in tin foil to keep the sunshine out because I’m keeping them on my south facing windowsill in my apartment. I top up the nutrient solution everyday or every other day. I am using small little air rocks to supply the roots with the oxygen that they need. With these plants what I did was just position them over the opening of the jug so they wouldn’t fall in and it’s been working well and we just hung some string lattice down in front of the window so the plants can grow up in to it and hang on to the strings I’ve also used some clips to support them and some J hooks to support the vegetables as they grow larger. At this point I’m not sure why but my pepper plants seem to be growing to a small version of a pepper almost a mini size pepper and then don’t seem to be getting beyond that size and I don’t know if it’s because of the size of the jug is so small or because I need to be putting on a stronger nutrient solution or what? So far I’m just trying different plant foods and hoping one will work better then the other. I think the plants are surviving despite everything I’ve been doing with them. Lol! Anyway if you would like to checkout some photos of my progress, take a look at my Facebook page called armchairgardener. Here’s the link and if you click on photos you will be able to see them all. Please leave any comments or advice for me that you may have I’m completely new at gardening and am trying to learn as much as I can.

Loved your video and I’m going to try some lettuce really soon. If I just wanted to grow one at a time would 1-2 litres of water work okay ?🙏🏻🇨🇦🥰

I replaced the cups and the media with ... pool noodles! Cut it into about 2 to 3 inch chunks and cut the holes in the top to fit the noodle diameter. They're reusable and much cheaper than the cups and media.

@@kerrischneider7693 thanks genius!! Silly me I’ve been using the pool noodles for awhile now to wrap around the more mature plants but it never occurred to me to use them for the much smaller seedlings and simply filling the hole with a piece from another that I can use to hold the seedling in! Geez I would never have thought of that! I love UA-cam where collaboration makes so much possible!! Thanks again!!

Brilliant info, bro Leon! I just saw a video where a lady starts her seeds in the same jugs cut in half and taped together so that she can fill bottom with soil and start seeds out side all winter with the top half closed down til it may need to b opened up and transplanted. Another brilliant idea!
My big problem is the deer love my yard and think my pots are their very own salad bar, and my compost also. Any suggestions will b appreciated.
    Blessings on you all!
    Your arkie neighbor.

I plan on using the wicking tubs my question is if you plant a small plant that roots are just few inches below soil does the wicking set up get water clear up to these plants or do you have to plant in these tubs when plant has grown bigger
