Ganxxet doesn’t seem to carry 3.5mm cord. What other size do you recommend? It’s been over 50 years since I’ve done macrame and I can’t wait to get started!
Hi Claire, I think they have renamed this cord recently and it is now their 4mm rope, I’m not positive but I have the new 4mm and it is almost the exact same at the 3.5mm rope used here. But to be sure , I would cut about 6 to 8 extra inches for each cord length just incase it is slightly larger to make up for the extra lengthrequired
Thank you for sharing, i checked out the rope you used but you do not mention what color. Would it please be possible to know wja color you used? Thanks
I like this one very much! thank you for the nice tutorial - very well explained. I have the cord (4mm) but I am nervous to start cutting the ropes lol... I can do this! :)
Hello! If I were to double the amount of cords, or increase it to 24 instead of 16 (to make the pattern longer), would I need to lengthen the pieces of cord? Would going from 9ft to 10ft work? Thanks!
You can hang it that way, what I always do I put a longer nail in the wall and just put the wallhangings cantered on it, right on the dowel and it looks like it’s floating like this one:)
Thank you for the tutorial. I can't get the messurements to add up. I have bought 3,5 mm string, but yours look about three times thicker. Are you sure that yours is only 3,5mm thick?
Yes it is! Unfortunately every company cord sizes Carrie’s a lot! One company’s 3mm can look like another company’s 4 or even 5, it can be very frustrating 🤷🏻♀️
Yes that’s totally fine, you can make it with any number cords as long as it’s an even number. The less cords, the less width, the more cords, the wider it will be!
Can I use this pattern with a 5mm cord? New to macrame and I only have 5mm on hand at the moment. How much additional rope would I need for the 5mm if so? Thanks! 💞
Yes it will, it won’t be as big, specially as wide, so if you want, you can just add more cords, making sure it’s an even number until it is as wide as you want it to be:)
Thank you! I always recommend cutting extra length, just to be safe. My knots are very tight and close together, and it’s always a good idea just to be safe so you don’t run out of cord and have to start all over again!❤️
Oh absolutely! To do my test run I made it with a thinner cord and really loved the outcome! Because it was a test run I didn’t record the measurements of cords etc, or else I would be happy to share with you:/
Did you try it with 3mm? It's hard to find 3.5 mm. I'd assume I'd need just a little less cord overall since it's thinner. I'm a beginner though, so I don't want to risk too much!
@@abbeystapleton8594 yes I did. And yes, that was all I could find. I bought off of Amazon. It works fine. I added 4 more cords to what was suggested in this video. I’m just beginning also but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty simple and you can get more creative.

Is each cord 9 feet to begin with the folded in half for the lark knot
Yes the cord length is always the actual length.
So do you start with 16 cords of 275cm length- then double them to start and hook over the rod? thank you
Whatever a listed length is , is the actual length. From there you fold in half.
The beginning cords are 9 feet long so when I filed them for the larkshead knot it will be shorter right?
Yes, you tie a larks head knot from the middle of the 9 foot cord.
so nice
Thank you so much!

Can I double the size of this wall hanging and keep the same design?
Most definitely! Just make sure to keep it an even number of cords, give yourself some extra length on the cords too!😊
Hi! thanks for sharing, how do you hang it
Without a cord??
I place the dowel on a nail in the centre.
I am having trouble finding the 3.5 mm 3-ply cord. Would the same size ropes work for 4 mm cord? I tried 3mm and the wallhanging was way too small.
Yes, all companies cord size varies sooo much! 4mm will be fine, also you can always add more cords to widen it and make it bigger!
Hola gracias por su enseñanza. Aunque sería bueno indicaran medidas de los cordones. Bendiciones
What is the length of the 16 cords
I don’t remember off hand but know that it is in the description below the video, I think 9ft but please double check to make sure that is correct!
How did you have the piece on the wall?
Hung it on a nail in the wall.
Can this pattern be done on a hoop?
I’ve never tried it like that so I can say for sure!

What type of rope should be used?
I have all of the information in the description of the video:)
This is a beginners tutorial, but they start with them all on the rod already. How many and how long???
Well Tom, if you read the description it gives you all of the cord lengths and right at the beginning it shows exactly how to attach the cord with a Larks head knot!
How do you hang/attach it to the wall?
I just place the center of the dowel on a long(ish) nail. I personally don’t like the look of a hanger, I find this way makes it look cleaner.❤️😊
