Its great to finally have a supplier of cool affordable gear here in Our True North Strong and Free. Big Fan of StrobePro Awesome service!
,,,been with STROBEPRO over 5 years now. Our whole studio is stocked with their gear and house brand products, which are first rate. Jessie and the crew provide customer service above and beyond any industry standard and as a Canadian I am very proud to recommend this outfit as in a class of their own!
Strobepro is the best photography based company I have ever dealt with.
I use huge silver umbrella and focus ip my flash the same way, ring of light or spot light are easily achievable. This device you got there was on my radar as well, but right now huge deep para umbrella works very good and the setup is light and very quick
I have 3 deep umbrellas as well. One major difference I noticed with this modifier was the control on the spill of light hitting other areas of the frame, especially the background, where the umbrellas typically bled into.
Glad I came back and watched this old video. Just ordered one. Got their v flats a couple weeks ago. They’re great. Before it cost a lot to ship here. Now, both have been free. BTW, $154 USD. 😊
Right on!
Great BTS man and congrats on 10k!
Thanks man!
Interesting product; thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks Nathan for this very useful information about the light which I'm sure to buy shortly. I'm so happy to have subscribed your channel where I learn a lot of techniques to boost my fashion photography. Lots of love and best wishes for you.
Thanks for the sub!
I’d love to see a lighting comparison between this and a Broncolor Para.
That thing is NOT a parabolic reflector. Others like the adorama profond and the parabolix, are parabolic - it's due to the shape. and obviously the broncolor and breise are nice paras
Great value piece of kit, the modifier works a treat on the model.
Yep, it's solid.
Just found this video on my recommend feed. Great channel my friend. Subscribed
Congratulations on 11K subs now! This does look really good, You definitely sold me on the bracket 😍
Killa K Glamorous thanks! 😉
Simply WOW
Congrats on 10K and I love those BTS 👌🏻
Thanks!
WHOA. That is super cool.
Great, thank you for finding and sharing this incredible tool,
Thanks for taking the time to watch. Cheers

@@tonygatman3568 That's my name alright ;)
I went to the store for the first time this past weekend. Awesome store! I live 6 hours away and always order online. Picked up an ad200 to replace a speedlite as my kicker. My only gripe is it's not a Strobepro branded X200 to match my x600II.
This is awesome brother
so cool! Thanks for sharing this!
Congrats on the 10k Nathan!!!
Thanks man!
You are very good you know your light. I use the same device from cheetah mine is a RB-150 they don’t make it anymore work the same way. The one you have from Strobepro is better build and better even withe design on the Octabox especially with rods built like a elinchrome.
Just paid for this baby tonite together with the 47".... tnx for the info !!
I've been using the AD200 and that's also ridiculous for it's size!!
Nathan, You come across as very honest, because you are honest. I like your review. You are excited about this product. I am going to buy it from Strobe Pro. I hope shipping is free to Los Angeles. It is also available from Selens on eBay and Amazon (Selens Aluminum Hexadecagon Softbox Reflective Bracket Speedring Bowens Mount US).
Jamal Mubarik thanks man. Not sure what Strobepro’s shipping is (I’ve always just gone in store) but I hope you’re a fan of it.
FYI:Selens is not as elegent as one from Strobe Pro. As og November 18, 2018 Strobe Pri is out of stock. A shipment from China (where else) is expected any day now. They credit there incredible sales of Focus Bracket to Nathan. I have called Strobe Pro three times. Twice I connected with Kevin. He is an amazing person, who provides great advise and customer service. Thanks Kevin.
Congrats on 10k subs man
Thank ya!
Thanks for the review, will be very helpful and very less expensive than Broncolor's one 🙏🙏
A question with no relation with the subject, is the music used at the beginning of your video from Disturbed?
Sound a bit like "10,000 Fists" song 😍😍 (told you there was no relation with the subject 😂😂)
Haha no just a royalty free song from Epidemic Sound 😉
Nice vid. I don't think it's comparable with broncolor, either the focus part or the lightshaper. But looks pretty ok for the price. Keep going bro, love to see more of that in future. Btw: who is the model? Like her and pictures became nice 👍
Well, guess I found your channel a bit late, but I like it, so I’ll try to catch up. Near Toronto and glad to see a Canadian reporting $CDA. Will look for the example video. Saw a jury rigged experiment by an English photographer who was not impressed with a sort of umbrella rod type of rig. This looks quite the better rig. Would’ve liked to have seen the beam pattern on a wall with rod at various positions. Good video.
I want one 😀👍
Start making more contet.
Maybe a studio Tour ?
Kinda curious, seems like you linked the umbrella octabox, Im not entirely sure how the two can work since there's a rod in the middle? Thanks for the review!!!
Not sure how that happened, it's linked to the proper octa now ;) Thanks!
Hmmmm I own Broncolor Siros Ls and they’re about 8lbs each so I’m wondering how well this device will work.
06:23 - Good to know about the misfires and the firmware update. I have two AD600 Pro units (Flashpoint XPLOR 600 Pro) and have had some misfire issues with both of them.
I'll try the firmware update and hopefully that will fix it. I'm also wondering if having the WiFi turned on in my 5D Mk4 might have something to do with it as well...
Jared Ribic yesterday I had a light miss on one frame. I guess it’s expected from all lights from time to time, but it’s leaps and bounds better than it was.
@@NathanElson - The misfires would be my only complaint. Other than that I'm completely impressed with the entire Godox system.
it's great for indirect, but the modifier is not a parabolic softbox - to be that, it' have to be the shape of a parabola
Do you think I could swap out the alien bees ring for the Bowen mount? 🤔 I have an extra ring…
I think so.... you will have to check with StrobePro to be sure though.
Can you GEL somehow, somewhere in this contraption? Godox / Flashpoint with extension head (head off the flash via an extension cord to reduce weight) does not allow for that.
Jamal Mubarik it would be tricky. It’s not really designed to have a gel inside it.
Congrats on 10K! That setup looks sweet. I love the Parabolics or Parabolas or whatever the exact mathematical f'n measure they are umbrellas. I've also dealt with Strobepro for numerous purchases and they are fantastic. Good on ya for givin' em' respect. I want that gadget now, thanks to you Nathan, just wish my damn portraits would turn out as good as yours. I know I know...I'll keep practicing. As a sidebar, are you curious about the new Fuji GFX 50R? and it can tether to Capture One now? I'm not a Fuji shooter but I would be curious to see what kind of magic you could do with it. Maybe The Camera Store would lend you one when it comes out? Hmmmm. Looking forward to the new vids. Peace.
Thanks man, and ya, when the Fuji comes out I'll find someone to let me play with one to see what it's like for sure ;)
you've mentioned this to be without affiliation and yet your links show them, i wonder what went wrong there ?
however as my first video, it was interesting listening to you.
Ahhh ya I made this video 5 years ago, before Strobepro ever had an affiliate link program. Now that they do and they made me a part of it I went back to some older videos and updated the links. I figure if I can get some kickback based off the content I created, why not?
Can you please elaborate on whether this is significantly different compared to using large deep umbrella (where you can move the source of light closer or further, as per your preference)? Thanks.
It's a completely different level of control. I use deep umbrellas as well, and this modifier allows you to focus the light in a much more defined way.
I was about to place my order. But then I realized it cost 167cad (sale) for the unit and 168cad for shipping to New Zealand. 😭
could not find the bracket on google
Like the videos. Off topic but what is the watch you have on?
I've been getting asked that a lot :) It's a Fossil Commuter Hybrid Smart Watch (dark brown) that I put onto a Nato watch strap.
Cheers
-Nate
Hey Nathan, what umbrellas are you using for your high key shot? They seem a lot deeper than the one's I have.
They are the Medium Profoto Deep Umbrellas.
Congrats !! ... Just one question, would the bracket be branded as Godox in Europe ?
It’s available in the UK from essential photo.co.uk www.essentialphoto.co.uk/product/pixapro-central-pole-bracket-for-deeppara-softboxes-interchangeable-fitting/?product_options[Speedring+Fitting]=Bowens+S-Type
Paul Saxby and if you would like to get 5% off it’s on screen price from essentialphoto.co.uk, follow my UA-cam channel then use the code WAYJ-5OFF... ;)

Can you tell me how you mounted the light to the stand? Do you think it would be practical to use this modifier on location or do you think of it has a studio light only?
I show the whole mounting process in the video. As for on location, like any modifier, if it's not windy it would be amazing on location, but if it was I would want to avoid it.
@@NathanElson Hey! Thanks for getting back to me and sorry for my slow reply. I rewatched the video and didn't really see what I was referring to in your video. What I'm referring to is with the base of the light what are you using to attached the power portion of the light to stand? I just got one of these lights and a similar setup but I'm finding that it is too heavy to be mounted to the end of the parabolic adapter.
also just like to say thank you for your informative videos greatly apperciated
@@ericcarlson8864 Ahhh sorry, misunderstood your question :) You need one of these: strobepro.com/collections/strobe/products/strobepro-x600-pro-godox-ad600-pro-extension-head
@@NathanElson okay so I do have the extension head coming but does it come with a bracket or something to connect to a c-stand?
the goo.gl hyperlink do not work and it should not be google instead of goo.gl
Arco Mxxnxn weird. Those are the links that the google URL shortened provided. I’ll double check them again but they all worked when I posted.
Its just an umbrella. You're not getting the parabolic benefits unless it fits the mathematical definition of a parabola. It's all marketing, unfortunately.
Regardless, it allows me to focus the light in a way that none of my other umbrellas allow, so I'm taking it as a win.
75 cents american,..... LMAO
I can tell you are in love...
75 cents American. 🤣
Nathan, although that modifier can create beautiful results- it is NOT a parabola. I feel this is a little misleading (parabolic has become a marketing term) as you are not getting the same effect as a Briese, Bron or Parabolix. Comparing the pricing to the Bron is apples to oranges! The Bron is a true parabola. Although subtle in end result a true parabola has a different effect in focus and in shadow transition. I worry that you are making newer photographers think the are getting a Bron on the cheap when the science is quite different. Congrats on 10k subs!
Thank ya.
Maybe you can explain how you think it’s not a parabola? If it were just a deep modifier (which are being coined as parabolic, which is definitely misleading) I would agree with you, but the fact that the light is focusable is exactly what makes it a parabolic modifier.
Nathan Elson What makes something a parabola is an exact mathematical measure. These godox/cheetah/rebranded style modifiers are not true parabolas. Being focusable doesnt make it a parabola. Unless Jesse and the gang have changed the design since I last inquired...
Im interested to understand how its not. Can you expand on your explanation. What math is involved and how does that change the verbiage one should use. Thanks.
Nolan Akin I would recommend checking out the forums dpreview and also potn. Both have some lengthy but informative info about this subject. I think the potn thread is " how parabolic are parabolic modifiers" or something to that extent Both forums have a lighting sub forum. Keep in mind this is a softbox referred to here while the Bron modifiers are actually parabolic reflectors. Different animals. As I said earlier- this modifier is capable of great results (I will pick one up myself this winter) but it is not equivalent to a Bron Para. A true parabola isnt needed in many situations- my only issue is that most of these new Chinese softboxes are marketed as "parabolic" to cash in on the Bron popularity but dont actually do what a Bron Para does. Even the new SMDV "parabolics" are not all parabolas- although a few of the larger ones appear to be.
Look up the information by Karl Taylor about parabolic light shapers. He has an excellent explanation.
Pseudo-parabolic ! Toyota vs. Lamborghini : )))
Toyota makes a hell of a dependable vehicle ;) May not be as pretty, but still gets you to the same destination.
Oh no, you pretend to be professional, but you are not there yet apparently -with that cheepo mind set, not being able to see the difference. They look and pretend to be same, but as the expression suggests, they are like chalk and cheese. You should be shooting with a Rebel camera. It is a hell of a dependable camera : ) May not be as pretty, but still gives you the same images.
@@opqrst7 the amount of money you spend on gear doesn't determine your level of talent, that's just straight up consumerism controlling your brain box, and yes, you could give me a rebel camera and I would still produce the same quality of work that I do now, granted with a camera that isn't as fluid to use as my D800. I'm not claiming they are on the same level in terms of build quality or light output, but as I've shown, it's a solid alternative for far less $$$.
Now go create something and share it with the class.
We are not talking talent here, we are talking professional result and quality. There are so many talented amateurs that produce better work than many professionals. Having said that, no professional is an idiot for spending more money on expensive gear for achieving the same result. Being a professional is about nuances and details, as well as, making money for paying your bills. I would respect your video if you only reviewed a product, and probably give a thumbs up. By the time you compare it to Broncolor you become ridiculous and demonstrate your lack of professional vision. @@NathanElson
@@opqrst7 to each their own. Enjoy your day amigo. Go create something.
