Another good tutorial Matt. You have a way of explaining the masking so it's easy to figure out. I use this stuff on nearly a daily basis, Lightroom just keeps on getting better with each update.

Super helpful tip on solo mode! I'm glad I wasn't the only one scrolling around in the new interface Matt!

Hi Matt, I really have to thank you for that tip about using different tools to subtract from an existing mask, which I think you first mentioned a little while back. I take a lot of shots of airplanes in the sky at air shows, and subtracting the 'subject' from the previously selected 'background' or 'sky' masks works really well to improve the selection without having to do lots of manual tidying up - so Thank You - that has saved me a lot of time and effort!

As usual...I keep getting little tidbits of information when I watch your tuts, Matt. I didn't even know 'select sky' for cleaning up excess brush strokes in masks! Holy crap. I used to have to go back, reverse the brush and try to finely brush back those edges and it drove me nuts. No more! Thanks fella.
Actually, I wasn't aware of any of your tips but that one alone will save me a TON of time. Wow.
    Well done...again!

Sir you are a very humble person and down to earth. The way you explain things in such an easy way, shows you are ready to help budding photographers like me achieve their very small goals. Keep up the good work going Matt..

Hey Matt - I stumbled across a handy little trick in the mask panel. When I had multiple cells (tone, colour, curve) open and was ready to close the mask tool scrolling to the bottom to find the Close button was kind of a pain. However, if you click on the Mask icon it will close the function. Now that I have my panel set on Solo Mode that trick may be redundant but there are times when I may not want to be in Solo Mode and a quick closing trick could be handy.

The nice thing about the amount slider (and I won't say it's wrong or an incorrect way to edit a photo) is that if you have a lot of slider moved around, this is quick way of just reducing the effect (equally) rather than readjusting all of the sliders individually, so I don't see using the amount slider in any of the panels to be any more right or wrong, but it just lets you tone down some of the adjustments as a group (similar to how you would use the amount slider in PS to adjust the amount a particular adjustment or layer is within a PS document).
The new Reset feature is nice because I've had times where it took a few double-clicks to reset panels or sections particularly if I was using a pen tablet.... Or on the other hand, I've accidentally reset panels or sliders I didn't mean to by accidentally double clicking on them (this method may still work but it was a bit of an annoyance).

The interesting thing I found is that it appears Adobe has changed ACR to mimic this new layout in the Basic panel (or rather they reorganized the Basic panel and have Light, Tone, Color, etc, whereas LR Classic still remains sthe same with the Basic panel). Perhaps they did it this way to not throw off people who use LR Classic, versus those who use ACR (My guess is more people that use ACR are probably more familiar with it and can find their way around but I was a bit surprised that this differed, since in 2020 Adobe redid the ACR interface to make it match LR Classic a bit more. Either way I guess HOW you access the various development tools is not a big issue as long as they are available in both programs.
That being said, what I really would like is a full-screen develop module, where you can have an image full screen with no borders or status bar or film strip, slideout on the left, etc, but rather a full screen editing mode, that has a floating develop window that you can move around. I would find this interface to be more conducive (at least for me) for editing, since some of the other elements within the LR Classic window can be distracting or simply aren't needed when you're editing. I know you can hide things like the top bar (that has the various modules listed) and the film strip and the side-bar on the left, but I feel that a full screen mode (almost like how Lights Out mode works but with a floating develop window that allows you to access tools) would be a nice feature that they could add. Or even better if you have a dual-monitor display, let you have an image full screen on one monitor, and then the develop module (bar) on the secondary screen. I think right now, the only thing you can do with a second monitor is display the library module.

Thanks, Matt for a great set of tips. In solo mode, when right clicking on a closed panel, it just opens the panel instead of giving me the option to use solo mode, any ideas on how to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated. All panel segments are closed before I right click on an individual panel header.

Useful tips. Thanks! Can I create an inverse of an AI Mask for preset? For example: select people, invert the mask, and save that as a preset.

Just tried to make panels go into solo mode in ACR, but that is not available. The only option on the right click is to adjust layout, either normal or compact. No solo mode. Would have loved that tip but must be just a LrC feature.
I'm up to date on all my updates.

Same with LR cloud version (I use because I don't want to be forced to import all my photos into a database - time/hard drive consuming). Hope they add it eventually.

Sadly, LR cloud on Macbook only has normal and compact choices for mask panels - no option for solo mode. Hopefully they will add that.
