    Just finished the Saturn V LEGO build for the 50 anniversary. It is still on sale even 2 years after. There are some amazing details I didn’t think would make it into a lego build. If you replace the escape tower with the command module from the splash down part, it does dock with the Lander allowing you to recreate the entire fight in LEGO. I do wish they would have released the Crawler and Launch Tower as an add on kit. This is an amazing LEGO kit all space enthusiasts should have.

      Yes, when they (re-)designed it at Lego and counted the parts, they were 1973 parts, and only then they realized they were close to 1969 (they didn't aim for that number initially), so they made small changes to the stand to save four parts. There was a bit of a small shock when they generated the instructions afterwards and the program Lego uses only counted 1968 parts, but then they remembered that the orange brick seperator counts as an additional part.

    I'm 60 years old, and my father was in the Air Force. The space program was a significant part of my childhood, and I was 5 years old when they landed on the moon. Fast forward 55 years, and I'm now a father of two boys who grew up hearing about my passion for the space program. My sons, who spent their childhoods building Star Wars Lego kits, recently gifted me my first Lego set: the NASA Apollo Saturn V. I have only completed the first stage so far, as building it is a time-consuming process, and my hands start to hurt after working on it for a while. I can't wait to finish it. After finishing the Saturn V kit, I would love to build a NASA Skylab kit, if Lego ever releases one, or an International Space Station kit.

  • @kevinfishburne

    Great video. My six year-old built this under my supervision and it was awesome. At 12:00 the LEM needs the thruster from the moon pad to achieve the correct height to mount between the fairings. For the LEM to dock with the command module you have to use the main piece of the "display" (grey with details) command module which has a peg/axle at the top that can be inserted, or modify the white command module using a small peg/axle. And WARNING: To recreate the mission sequence you will need to modify the top of the stage one booster. It has eight red clamps in pairs securing it to the base of stage two. Consequently it disconnects with such force that stage three will fly off from its momentum. To prevent this, remove one clamp from each pair, reducing it from eight to four. This will slightly compromise its integrity when horizontal, but allow the mission sequence to be recreated. And now you know. =P [edit] Forgot the link to my son's build: ua-cam.com/video/j8L6vcH0E4E/v-deo.html&

    Knolling across bag numbers seems like a bad idea to me. The whole point of those numbers is to make it easier to find what you need for the sub-sections of work.

    • @Tyzygy

      But the bag system is with the intention that you won't be knolling in the first place

    • @delecti
      @delecti 7 років тому +11

      But it would be even faster still to only knoll within bags. Plus less walking to grab pieces on a table that long. That's extra true considering each of them were working on different parts (different numbered sections) of the instructions.

      Brian Beard The Mega Blocks Enterprise is outstanding and perfect. It’s also very reasonably priced. There are claims it doesn’t fit well at the top of the saucer but those claims are wrong and due to assembly errors on the part of the builder. Press your pieces together tightly and you’ll have no problems.

    Artemis 1 second launch attempt was scheduled at 9.17 pm finnish time on 3 September. I bought LEGO Apollo Saturn V package that day. I started to build it when Artemis 1 launching TV broadcasting was to be started. The launching was cancelled but I started to build Saturn V anyway. It took 5 hours to build stage 1. Next day it took 6 six hours to build the rest. Best LEGO package ever.

    Just yesterday I finished building mine. My first LEGO set in 16 years. The process really brought me back and the two days I sent with it really gave me the sort of joy I havent felt for a really long time. There is something unreally soothing with building LEGO, it doesn't really compare with plastic modelmaking, which is my "main" creative hobby. With plastic kits, there is something a little unnerving, you can pretty much screw up at any time and all your effort goes to waste. With LEGO there isn't much chance of it and the process itself is just so joyful. On the other hand, I don't think I'm really proud of my LEGO Saturn V, as I would've been with even moderately successfull model kit project. After all, it is "just" following the instruction and there is little of personal skill and invention that goes into it. That being said, it still is an amazing piece to interact with or even just look at and I'm so very happy that I got it.

    I just finished my and it's great.
    The LEM does actually fit inside the fairing, it doesn't actually slots into anything but the shape of the fairing would keep it from falling out.
    Also, you can actually do a docking between CSM and LEM, you have to get rid of the LES tower and put the command module you normally put on the little recovery display on top of the service module, the CSM would then be able to dock with the LEM.
